< Nehemiah 13 >
1 Hiche nikho ma ma hin Mose lekhabu chu mipi ho lah a asimdoh un ahileh Ammon mihole Moab miho chu Pathen houkhom na a lutthei lou diu ahi ti amudoh’un ahi.
Now on that day, they read from the book of Moses in the hearing of the people. And in it, there was found written that the Ammonites and the Moabites must not enter the church of God, even for all time,
2 Ajeh chu amahon gamthip noiya chun Israelte an le tui anape nom pouvin ahi. Chusangin amahon Balaam chu apa-lah a sapset sah ding ana gouvin ahi, ahin Pathenin hiche sapset na chu phattheiboh na in ana lehei peh in ahi.
because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and water, and they hired Balaam against them, to curse them. But our God turned the curse into a blessing.
3 Hiche danthu kijihna laitah chu akiphah poh tengleh gamchom miho chu apet petna houkhom na a kon chun anodoh jiuvin ahi.
Now it happened that, when they had heard the law, they separated every foreigner from Israel.
4 Hiche masanghin i-Pathen’u houin’a thilkeo koina indan ho vesui dinga kinganse Eliashib hi Tobiah inko ana hikhan;
And Eliashib, the priest, was over this task; he had been given charge of the treasury of the house of our God, and he was a close relative of Tobiah.
5 Amahin thilkoina indan lentah khat chu Tobiah khut nah ana pedoh khan ahi. Hiche indan chu tumasang’a houin thil hole chang hopsom lengpitwi thah, Olive thao chuleh thempu ho ding maicham koina kinei anahi (hiche ho hi Levite le, lasa miho, chuleh kelkot ngah hoa dinga ana kigong chu anahi.)
Then he made for himself a large storeroom, and in that place, there was laid before him gifts, and frankincense, and vessels, and the tithes of grain, wine, and oil, the portions of the Levites, and of the singing men, and of the gatekeepers, and the first-fruits of the priests.
6 Hiche pet hin keima Jerusalem a kana um'in ahi, ajehchu Babylon lengpa Artaxerxes vaihom kum somthum le kum ni channa a chu akoma kana kile kit na dingin phalna kahin kilah in ahi.
But during all this, I was not in Jerusalem, because in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes, the king of Babylon, I went to the king, and at the end of some days, I petitioned the king.
7 Jerusalem kahung nung lhun jouvin Eliashib min Pathen houin indan sung khat ana pehdoh jenga hitobanga thildihlou ana bol khah chu kahe doh tan ahi.
And I went to Jerusalem, and I understood the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, such that he would make him a storeroom in the vestibules of the house of God.
8 Hichu keiman nom mo kasa behseh jeng tan Tobiah thilkeo ho jouse chu indan sunga kon chun kale mangpeh tan ahi.
And it seemed to me very evil. And I cast the vessels of the house of Tobiah outside of the storeroom.
9 Hijouchun indan sung ho chu kasuhtheng sah in, Pathen houin thilkeo hole, chang hopsom ho chuleh gimnamtui ho chu kale lhohlut kittai.
And I gave instructions, and they cleansed again the storeroom. And I brought back, into that place, the vessels of the house of God, the sacrifice, and the frankincense.
10 Chuleh keiman Levite chanding anneh kigong sa ho chu ana peh louvu kamudoh tan, hijeha chu Pathen houkhom na a analamkai dingho chu ama loulang cheh a natong dingin ana kinungle tauvin ahi.
And I realized that the portions of the Levites had not been given to them, and that each one had fled into his own region, from the Levites, and from the singing men, and from those who were ministering.
11 Keiman gangtah in lamkai ho chu kakimaito pin kasei tan ahi; “Ipi dinga Pathen houin hi nahsah moa kikoija hitam?” kati. Hiche jouchun Levite chu kavel koudoh in atohdiu kincheh u chu katohsah kit tan ahi.
And I brought the case before the magistrates, and I said, “Why have we forsaken the house of God?” And I gathered them together, and I caused them to stand at their stations.
12 Hiti chun Judah mipite ho chun achang hopsom hou, lengpitwi thahho chule Olive thaoho chu houin thil koina hoa ahin pelut kit tauvin ahi.
And all of Judah brought the tithes of the grain, and the wine, and the oil into the storehouses.
13 Keiman thil koina in na vaihom ho: Shelemiah thempupa, Zadok danthu thempa, chule Pedaiah kiti Levi mikhat chu atohnao muncheh a kakoi kitin ahi. Chuleh Mattaniah tupa Zaccur chapa Hanan chu akithopi diuvin kakiojin ahi. Amaho hi seiphat chang cheh ahiuvin hitichun amahon a Levi chan khompi hou chu kitah tahin achandiu achansah soh un ahi.
And we appointed over the storehouses, Shelemiah, the priest, and Zadok, the scribe, and Pedaiah from the Levites, and next to them Hanan, the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah. For they had proven to be faithful. And so the portions of their brothers were entrusted to them.
14 Vo ka Pathen katoh phat nau ho hi geldoh in lang ka Pathen houin dingleh akin kitohna hoa kitah tah a katoh hi neisuhmil peh hih beh in.
Remember me, O my God, because of this, and may you not wipe away my acts of compassion, which I have done for the house of my God and for his ceremonies.
15 Hiche nikho laihin, Judah mihon cholngah nikhoa lengpiga achil’u kamun ahi. Amahon hange mim ahin pouvin sangan chunga akhangdoh un, alengpitwi’ule lengpiga theichang hole thilsoh jouse Jerusalem’ah ahin pouvin cholngah nia joh dingin ahin pouvin ahi. Hijeh chun hiche khoa atohga soh’u ajoh jeh un kaphoh in ahi.
In those days, I saw, in Judah, some who were treading the presses on the Sabbath, and who were carrying sheaves, and placing on donkeys burdens of wine, and of grapes, and of figs, and all manner of burdens, and who were bringing these into Jerusalem on the day of the Sabbath. And I contended with them, so that they would sell on a day when it was permitted to sell.
16 Jerusalem a cheng hon Tyre gam a konin nga ahin, kiveina thil jatchom chom ho ahin polut’un ahi. Amaho hin Jerusalem a Judah mite lah a cholngah nikhon ajoh’un ahi!
And some Tyrians dwelt within, who were bringing fish and all kinds of items for sale. And they were selling on the Sabbaths to the sons of Judah in Jerusalem.
17 Hijeh chun keiman Judah lamkaite chu kaki maitopin hitin kasei tan ahi; “Ipi dinga nanghon hitobang tah a hi thilse nabol’uva cholngah nikho hi nasuh boh u hitam?”
And I put the nobles of Judah under oath, and I said to them: “What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?
18 “Ipu ipa teuvin hitobanga hi na anatoh jiu jeh a, Pathenin eiho chungle ikhopiuva hi hahsat na ana chuhsah ji hilou ham? Tuhin nanghon hitobang tah hin cholngah nikho nasuboh un Israel chunga Pathen lunghan na khoh cheh nahin polut tauve.
Did not our fathers do these things, and so our God brought all this evil upon us and upon this city? And you are adding more wrath upon Israel by violating the Sabbath!”
19 Hichun keiman cholngah ni masang nilhah kho hungjin phatleh Jerusalem kelkot chu kha jeng ding cholngah ni kichai tokah a honlou ding in thu kapen ahi. Cholngah nia kiveina thilho hung kipoh lut louna dingin keiman lhacha ho phabep chu kelkot kangasah in ahi.
And it happened that, when the gates of Jerusalem had rested on the day of the Sabbath, I spoke, and they closed the gates. And I instructed that they should not open them until after the Sabbath. And I appointed some of my servants over the gates, so that no one would carry in a burden on the day of the Sabbath.
20 Kivei miho le thil jat chom chom joh ho chu Jerusalem khopam’ah khat vei nivei ageh khovah un ahi.
And so the merchants and those who sold all kinds of items remained just outside of Jerusalem, once and again.
21 Amaho chu kahousen, “Nanghon hiche kulpi bang vella hi ibola geh khovah nahiovem? Hitia hi naum kit’ule kamat diu ahi!” kati. Hitichun amaho cholngah ni ahung kit tapouve.
And I contended with them, and I said to them: “Why are you remaining just beyond the wall? If you do this again, I will send hands upon you.” And so, from that time, they no longer came on the Sabbath.
22 Hijouchun keiman Levite chu amahole amaho kisutheng dingle cholngah ni athenga umsah jing nadinga kelkot ngah dingin thu kapen ahi. O ka Pathen hiche katoh phat nahi geldoh in! Na mingailut na longlou kidangtah jallin kachunga na hepina kaiyin.
I also spoke to the Levites, so that they would be cleansed, and would arrive to guard the gates and to sanctify the day of the Sabbath. Because of this also, O my God, remember me and spare me, in accord with the multitude of your mercies.
23 Hiche phatlai tah chun keiman Judah mi phabep min Ashdod Ammon leh Moab numei ho akichen piuve ti kahin hedoh tan ahi.
But also in those days, I saw some Jews taking wives from the Ashdodites, and the Ammonites, and the Moabites.
24 Hiche banna chun, achateu akeh khat in Ashdod paole paodang athouvin, Judah pao atho theipouvin ahi.
And their sons spoke partly in the speech of Ashdod, and they did not know how to speak the Jewish language, and they were speaking according to the language of one people or another.
25 Hijeh chun amaho chu kakimaito pin kasam sen ahi. Miphabep chu kavon chuleh asammu kabolhah pehin ahi. Keiman amaho chu achateu hiche gamma cheng hou neilou ho toh achateu akichensah louna diuvin Pathen min panin kaki hahsel sah in ahi.
And I put them under oath, and I cursed them. And I struck some of their men, and I shaved off their hair, and I made them swear to God that they would not give their daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for their sons, nor for themselves, saying:
26 Hiche jeh a hi Israel leng Solomon achonset lochu? Keiman kaseijin; “Namdang leng amatoh tekah pithei aumpoi, amachu Pathenin angailun Israelte jouse leng ahisah in ahi. Ahiyeng vang'in gamdang mi ajiten achonset sah in ahi.”
“Did not Solomon, king of Israel, sin in this kind of thing? And certainly, among many nations, there was no king similar to him, and he was beloved of his God, and God set him as king over all of Israel. And yet foreign women led even him into sin!
27 Iti dan a nanghon gamchom a numei ho nakichen piuva Pathen mitmua kitah loutah a na um’uva hitobang tah a chonset na hi natoh dohu hitam?
So how could we disobey and do all this great evil, so that we would transgress against our God, and take foreign wives?”
28 Thempulen Eliashab chapa Joiada chate lah a khat’in Horon mi Sanballat chanu ana kichenpi jeh in kakom a konin kakai dohtan ahi.
Now one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib, the high priest, was a son-in-law to Sanballat, a Horonite, and I made him flee from me.
29 O ka Pathen amaho hi geldoh in, ajehchu amahon thempu hole Levite gimneitah a akitepnau asuboh tauve.
O Lord, my God, remember against those who defile the priesthood and the law of the priests and the Levites!
30 Hitichun keiman gamchom mi toh kitimat na jouse chu kasuthengin thempu hole Levite chu akin cheh’u pochil tah a atohna diuvin natoh kagon toh peh cheh in ahi.
And so I cleansed them from all foreigners, and I established the orders of the priests and the Levites, each one in his ministry.
31 Chuleh keiman maicham a ding thing aning lhinga ahin peh na diu leh lhosoh masa apha cha cha ahin pohlutna diuvin kagongtoh in ahi. O ka Pathen, hiche hi keima neikhohsah na in hin gel doh teiyin.
O my God, remember me also, for good, because of the offering of wood, at the appointed times, and because of the first-fruits. Amen.
