< John 4 >

1 Pakai chun John sangin seijui tamjo asem'in miho Baptize achansah jinge ti Pharisee hon ajatauve ti chu Yeshuan ahetan ahi.
Now as soon as the Master was aware that the Pharisees had heard it said, "Jesus is gaining and baptizing more disciples than John"--
2 Hichun Yeshua amatah in baptize achansah lou vang'in, aseijuiten abol'u ahi.
though Jesus Himself did not baptize them, but His disciples did--
3 Hijeh chun aman Judea gam adalhan Galilee gam'a akile tai.
He left Judaea and returned to Galilee.
4 Aman alampi'a chun Samaria gamsung ajotpa in;
His road lay through Samaria,
5 Chutichun Samaria mite khokhat Sychar mun chu ahung lhungtai; hiche mun chu Jacob in achapa Joseph ana peh loumun kom ahi.
and so He came to Sychar, a town in Samaria near the piece of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Chukom'a chu Jacob twikul um'ah ahi, Yeshua chu lamsao ajotna'ah acholtan, twikul panga chun leltah in atouvin ahi; Hichu sunkim dontah ahi.
Jacob's Well was there: and accordingly Jesus, tired out with His journey, sat down by the well to rest. It was about six o'clock in the evening.
7 Hichun Samaria numei khat twithal dingin ahungin, Yeshuan amanu jah'a “Twi donding neipeh thei ding ham?” ati.
Presently there came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus asked her to give Him some water;
8 Hichepet a chu Yeshua achangseh'a bou um ahi, ajehchu aseijuite khosunga anneh ding cho'a achedoh kah'u ahi.
for His disciples were gone to the town to buy provisions.
9 Numeinu chu atija lheh e, ajehchu Judah hon Samaria miho chu athet uva imacha akikoppi ngailou'u ahi; hijehchun amanun Yeshua jah'a “Nangla Judah mi nahin, keila Samaria numei kahin, ipi dinga keikom'a donding twi nathum ham?” ati.
"How is it," replied the woman, "that a Jew like you asks me, who am a woman and a Samaritan, for water?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
10 Yeshuan adonbut'in amanu jah'a “Pathen thilpeh nachan ding hi henlang, chule naki houpi hi koi ahi hele chun nangin keikom'a nathum joh ding, chule keiman nangma hintwi pedinga,” ati.
"If you had known God's free gift," replied Jesus, "and who it is that said to you, 'Give me some water,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
11 Chuin amanun ajah'a, “Pu nangman athaldoh nading khao le bel jong neilouva, twikul jong athuh in, hintwi nati chu hoiya nalah ding ham?
"Sir," she said, "you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; so where can you get the living water from?
12 Chukit jongleh hiche twikul eina peuva kapului'u Jacob sang'a nangma chung nungjo nahim? Amatah in anadon'a achate leh agancha ho anadonsah'a hiche twi sanga phajo hoiya nalah ding ham?” ati.
Are you greater than our forefather Jacob, who gave us the well, and himself drank from it, as did also his sons and his cattle?"
13 Yeshuan adonbut'in ajah'a, “Koi hileh hiche twi don'a chu dangchah kit ding ahi.
"Every one," replied Jesus, "who drinks any of this water will be thirsty again;
14 Ahivangin Keiman kapeh ding twidon jouse chu a itih'a dangchah kitlou ding, amaho chu asung uva hintwi put'a twinah theng soh ding, chule tonsot hinna chang ding ahiuve.” (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
but whoever drinks any of the water that I shall give him will never, never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become a fountain within him of water springing up for the Life of the Ages." (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
15 Chuin numeinun ajah'a “Pu lungset in hiche twi chu kei neipen, chuteng avel'a kadang chah kitlou na ding, chuleh hilai mun'a twithal'a kahungkit lou nadingin,” ati.
"Sir," said the woman, "give me that water, that I may never be thirsty, nor continually come all the way here to draw from the well."
16 Chuin Yeshuan amanu jah'a, “Chenlang najipa gakouvin,” ati.
"Go and call your husband," said Jesus; "and come back."
17 Amanun adonbut'in, “Keiman ji kaneipoi,” ati, hichun Yeshuan ajah'a, “Nasei dih'e, nangman ji kicheh naneipoi,” ati.
"I have no husband," she replied. "You rightly say that you have no husband," said Jesus;
18 “Nangman ji ngatah naneitan chule tua naum khompi pa jong khu naji tah ahipoi, nasei dih lheh jenge,” ati.
"for you have had five husbands, and the man you have at present is not your husband. You have spoken the truth in saying that."
19 Chuin numeinun ajah'a, “Pu nangma themgao khat nahi.
"Sir," replied the woman, "I see that you are a Prophet.
20 Ahile neisei peh in ipi dinga keiho Samaria mihon, kapuluiteu bolbanga hiche Gerizim mol'a Pathen kahou'uva, ahivanga nangho Judah mihon Pathen houna ding mun chu Jerusalem bou ahi, natiu ham?” ati.
Our forefathers worshipped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem."
21 Yeshuan adonbut'in, “Numei neitahsan in nanghon Pathen nahou na dingu mun chu hiche mol'a jong hilou, chuleh Jerusalem'a jong hilou, phat chu ahung lhung e.”
"Believe me," said Jesus, "the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
22 Nangho Samaria mihon nahet chen lou u nahouvun, ahivangin keiho Judah mihon vang kahou'u ama chu kahet chen'u ahi; ajehchu huhhingna chu Judahte a kona hung ahibouve.
You worship One of whom you know nothing. We worship One whom we know; for salvation comes from the Jews.
23 Ahivangin phat chu ahung lhunge, tutah hi ahi, ahou tahbeh hon Pachu Lhagao leh thutah'a ahouding phat; ajeh chu Pa chun chutobanga houho bou chu ama hou dinga ahol ahi.
But a time is coming--nay, has already come--when the true worshippers will worship the Father with true spiritual worship; for indeed the Father desires such worshippers.
24 Ajehchu “Pathen chu lhagao ahin, ahouten lhagao leh thutah'a ahou ding mong ahi” ati.
God is Spirit; and those who worship Him must bring Him true spiritual worship."
25 Chuin numeinun ajah'a, “Keiman Messiah hung ding chu kahenai, ama chu Christa ahi. Ama chu ahung tengleh aman ijakai eihil dingu ahi,” ati.
"I know," replied the woman, "that Messiah is coming--'the Christ,' as He is called. When He has come, He will tell us everything."
26 Chuin Yeshuan amanu jah'a, “Keima Christa chu kahi,” ati.
"I am He," said Jesus--"I who am now talking to you."
27 Hiche pettah chun, aseijuite ahung kiletauve, amahon Yeshua leh numeinu kihou chu amu'uvin, atija lheh jengun ahi, ahivangin koiman ajah'a, “Amanu henga ipi nathum ham?” ahilouleh, “Ipi dinga amanu naki houpi ham?” tia dong ngam aum pouve.
Just then His disciples came, and were surprised to find Him talking with a woman. Yet not one of them asked Him, "What is your wish?" or "Why are you talking with her?"
28 Hichun numeinu chun a twibel chu twikul panga adalhan khosung lam'a alelhai kit'in miho jouse henga;
The woman however, leaving her pitcher, went away to the town, and called the people.
29 “Hungun mikhat hungveu vin, aman kathilbol leh kachon na jouse aseidoh soh keiye, Ama hi Christa hitei yinte,” ati.
"Come," she said, "and see a man who has told me everything I have ever done. Can this be the Christ, do you think?"
30 Chuin khosunga kon chun mipi tamtah ahung potdoh'un ama chu ahung veuvin ahi.
They left the town and set out to go to Him.
31 Hichepet chun aseijuiten Yeshua heng'ah, “Rabbi an themkhat beh nen,” atiuve.
Meanwhile the disciples were urging Jesus. "Rabbi," they said, "eat something."
32 Ahivangin Yeshuan adonbut'in, “Keiman nangho het phahlou anneh kaneiye,” ati.
"I have food to eat," He replied, "of which you do not know."
33 Hichun aseijuite amaho akidong touvin, “Eiho chedoh kah'a mikhat touvin anneh ding ahin choipeh khat ham?” atiuve.
So the disciples began questioning one another. "Can it be," they said, "that some one has brought Him something to eat?"
34 Chuin Yeshuan ahilchen in ajah'uva, “Eisolpa Pathen lunggot lam bol leh akin subulhit chu keima anneh ahi,” ati.
"My food," said Jesus, "is to be obedient to Him who sent me, and fully to accomplish His work.
35 “Nanghon changphu'a pat chang at khom na ding lha li alut'e natiuvin ahi, ahivangin keiman najah uva kasei ahi, khodah uvin loujao khu veuvin, chang amin in a-atphat val ahitai.
Do you not say, 'It wants four months yet to the harvest'? But look round, I tell you, and observe these plains-- they are already ripe for the sickle.
36 Chang-at chun atha man akisanji mong ahi, chule a-atkhom lousoh ga chu miho tonsot hinna'a apuilut chu ahi; chutia chu aphut pa le a atpa anilhon'a kipahkhom jiahi. (aiōnios g166)
The reaper gets pay and gathers in a crop in preparation for the Life of the Ages, that so the sower and the reapers may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 Akisei ji bang chun, ‘mikhat in aphut in adang khat in a-at khomji,’” kiti chu adihtah ahi.
For it is in this that you see the real meaning of the saying, 'The sower is one person, and the reaper is another.'
38 Hijeh chun keiman nangho, na phulou nauva a-atkhom dinga kasol nahiuve; midang in atoh gimnasa chu nanghon aga nakhop tup'u ahi. Samaria Mihon Yeshua Atahsan'u
I sent you to reap a harvest which is not the result of your own labours. Others have laboured, and you are getting benefit from their labours."
39 Numeinu chun, “Kathilbol leh kachon na jouse eisei doh peh'e,” tia ahet tohsah'a kon chun, chuche kho'a Samaria mi tamtah'in Yeshua chu atahsan tauve.
Of the Samaritan population of that town a good many believed in Him because of the woman's statement when she declared, "He has told me all that I have ever done."
40 Chuin amaho Yeshua henga ahung'un, akom'uva umden dingin a ngeh'un ahi, chuin Yeshua chukom'a chun nikho ni achongden tan ahi;
When however the Samaritans came to Him, they asked Him on all sides to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.
41 Chua aumsung chun mi tamtah'in athusei ajah'uva kon chun ama chu atahsan tauve.
Then a far larger number of people believed because of His own words,
42 Chuin amahon numeinu jah'a, “Nangma thu hettohsah jengseh hilouvin, keiho tah in ama thusei kajauvin, tun katahsan tauve, chuleh amahi vannoi huhhing dihtah ahi kahechen tauve,” atiuvin ahi. Galilee mihon Yeshua asan u
and they said to the woman, "We no longer believe in Him simply because of your statements; for we have now heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world."
43 Chua ni ni achon jou chun, Yeshuan Galilee ajontai.
After the two days He departed, and went into Galilee;
44 Yeshua amatah in themgao chu achenna agamsung'a jabol na achangpoi, tia anasei dohsa ahi.
though Jesus Himself declared that a Prophet has no honour in his own country.
45 Ahijeng vang chun Galilee miten ama chu ana sanguve, ajehchu amaho chu kalchuh kut laiya Jerusalem'a ana um uva, chumun'a Yeshua thilbol ho ana musoh keiyu ahi.
When however He reached Galilee, the Galilaeans welcomed Him eagerly, having been eye-witnesses of all that He had done in Jerusalem at the Festival; for they also had been to the Festival.
46 Aman Galilee gamsung ajot'in twisih lengpi twi asosah na Cana kho'a chun ache kit'in ahi, chuche kho koma Capernaum kho'a chun vaipo milal khat a um'in, achapa chu ha dammo lheh jeng ahi.
So He came once more to Cana in Galilee, where He had made the water into wine. Now there was a certain officer of the King's court whose son was ill at Capernaum.
47 Chuin aman Yeshua chu Judea gam'a kon'in Galilee gam'a ahunge ti ajah phat in, amatah Yeshua henga achen, Capernaum geiya ahunga achapa ahung damsah dingin ataotai, ajeh chu achapa chu athikon cha ahitai.
Having heard that Jesus had come from Judaea to Galilee, he came to Him and begged Him to go down and cure his son; for he was at the point of death.
48 Yeshuan ajah'a, “Melchih na kidang hicheng hohi mulou hile chun neitahsan nadem?” ati.
"Unless you and others see miracles and marvels," said Jesus, "nothing will induce you to believe."
49 Hichun vaipopa chun, “Pakai lungset in kachapa athi masang in hungin,” tin ataotai.
"Sir," pleaded the officer, "come down before my child dies."
50 Yeshuan amapa jah'a, “Na in'ah kiletan nachapa ahinge!” ati. Chuin mipa chun, Yeshua thusei chu atahsan in, a inlam ajontai.
"You may return home," replied Jesus; "your son has recovered." He believed the words of Jesus, and started back home;
51 Chuin mipa chu a In alhun masang in, asohten lampia ahung lamtou vin, achapa damtheng thu chu ahung seipeh uvin ahi.
and he was already on his way down when his servants met him and told him that his son was alive and well.
52 Hichun aman asohte jah'a, “Itih phat a chu damdoh ham?” tin adongin ahileh, amahon, “Janhi sun nidan khat dontah chun akhosih abeitai,” atiuvin ahi.
So he inquired of them at what hour he had shown improvement. "Yesterday, about seven o'clock," they replied, "the fever left him."
53 Chuin mipa chun hiche phat laitah chu, Yeshuan ajah'a nachapa ahinge tia aseipet tah ahi chu ahedohtan ahi; hiche jeh chun ama leh a Insung mite chengsen Yeshua atahsan tauve.
Then the father recollected that that was the time at which Jesus had said to him, "Your son has recovered," and he and his whole household became believers.
54 Hiche hi Judea gam'a kon'a Galilee gam'a ahungna'a Yeshuan melchihna kidang abol aniveina ahitai.
This is the second miracle that Jesus performed, after coming from Judaea into Galilee.
