< John 3 >
1 Pharisee mi amin Nicodemus kiti Judah teho'u lamkai khat aum e.
Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, who was a leading man among his people.
2 Amapa chu jankhat Yeshua henga ahungin Yeshua jah'a, “Houhil, keiho dinga Pathen in nahin sol ahi kaheuve; melchihna kidang hijat nabol hohi Pathen'a kon nahi aphot chetna ahitai,” ati.
This man came to Jesus by night, and said to him, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one could give such signs as you are giving, unless God were with him.’
3 Yeshuan adonbut'in “Tahbeh a kaseipeh nahi, nangma napen kit loule Pathen lenggam namu lou ding ahi,” ati.
‘In truth I tell you,’ exclaimed Jesus, ‘unless a person is reborn, they cannot see the kingdom of God.’
4 Nicodemus chun datmo tah in, “Mi ateh nunga iti anu naobu a lelut kit'a hung peng kit thei ding ham?” ati.
‘How can a person,’ asked Nicodemus, ‘be born when they are old? Can they be born a second time?’
5 Yeshuan adonbut'in, “Thutah chu ahileh, twiya le lhagaova apenlou le koima Pathen lenggam alut thei poi.
‘In truth I tell you,’ answered Jesus, ‘unless a person owes their birth to water and Spirit, they cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6 Mihem tahsaphe a penga chu tahsa a hinna bou ahin, ahivangin Lhagao Thenga penga chu Lhagaova hinna chang ahi.
All that owes its birth to human nature is human, and all that owes its birth to the Spirit is spiritual.
7 Hijeh chun nangma napen kit ding ahi, kati chu datmo hih'in.
Do not wonder at my telling you that you all need to be reborn.
8 Huikhu anopna lam lam'a anungin, nangin agin najan, ahivangin hoiya hungkon hoilam ajot nahepoi, chutobang chun Lhagaova pengho jong nangin nahethei poi,” ati.
The wind blows wherever it wants, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from, or where it goes; it is the same with everyone who owes his birth to the Spirit.’
9 Chuin Nicodemus chun ajah'a “Hiche ho chu iti hithei ding ham?” ati.
‘How can that be?’ asked Nicodemus.
10 Yeshuan adonbut in, “Nangla Judah te houhil pipu khat nahin, hiche hohi iti nahet thei lou ham?
‘What! You a teacher of Israel,’ exclaimed Jesus, ‘and yet do not understand this!
11 Tahbeh a kaseipeh nahi, keihon kahet kaseiyu ahin, kamu kahettohsah'u ahi; ahivangin kahettohsah'u hi nanghon nasang pouve.
In truth I tell you that we speak of what we know, and state what we have seen; and yet you do not accept our statements.
12 Keiman leiset thil ho kaseiya natahsan lou leh, van'a thil ho thudol seileng iti natahsan ding ham?
If, when I tell you earthly things, you do not believe me, how will you believe me when I tell you of heavenly things?
13 Koima van'a akal'in, ahung kile khapoi; ahivangin Mihem Chapa vang chu van'a kona hung kumlha ahi.
No one has ascended to heaven, except him who descended from heaven – the Son of Man himself.
14 Chuleh Mose in gamthip'a thing'a sum-eng gul adop sang banga chu, Mihem Chapa kidom sang ding ahi.
And, as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up;
15 Hijeh chun amitakip ama tahsan chan in tonsot hinna anei ding ahi. (aiōnios )
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.’ (aiōnios )
16 Ajeh chu Pathen in hibanga hi vannoi angailut ahin, koi hijongleh Ama tahsan chan chu mangthah louva tonsot hinna anei na dingin, aneisun achapa changkhat chu apetan ahi. (aiōnios )
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. (aiōnios )
17 Pathen in achapa vannoiya ahinsol chu, vannoi huhhing'a aumna ding joh ahibouve.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.
18 Koi hile ama tahsan chan chu, achunga thutanna umlou ahitai; ahivangin koi hijongleh atahsanlou vang chu, Pathen chapa changkhat chu atahsan loujeh a achunga thutanna umsa ahitai.
The person who believes in him escapes condemnation, while the person who does not believe in him is already condemned, because they have not believed in the only Son of God.
19 Chule thutanna chu hiche hi ahi; Pathen vah chu vannoiya ahungin, ahivangin mihon vah sangin, achonnau aphatlou jeh in muthim joh adeijouvin ahi.
The ground of their condemnation is this, that though the light has come into the world, people preferred the darkness to the light, because their actions were wicked.
20 Michonphalou jousen vah athet'un, nai jong anailut ngam pouve, ajeh chu achonset nau hinphong doh khante tin akichauve.
For the person who lives an evil life hates the light, and will not come to it, fearing that their actions will be exposed;
21 Ahivangin thudih'a chonphat bol ho vang chun Pathen lungdei abol'u chu mihon amuthei na dingin vah'a aum jinguve.” Tuilutsah John in Yeshua achoisang
but the person who lives by the truth comes into the light, so it can be clearly seen that God is in all they do.
22 Chuin Yeshua leh seijuiten Jerusalem adalhauvin, Judea gam thinglhang lam ajontauve; chukom a chun phat chomkhat a umkhom'un, miho baptize achansah jin ahi.
After this, Jesus went with his disciples into the country parts of Judea; and there he stayed with them, and baptized.
23 Hiche pet chun Tuilutsah John injong Salim koma Aenon mun'a twi ninglhing tah'a aum jeh chun, miho baptize achansah jin, chule aphat seh in, miho jong baptize chang dingin ahung jingun ahi.
John, also, was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there were many streams there; and people were constantly coming and being baptized.
24 Hichu John songkul'a akikhum masang ahi.
(For John had not yet been imprisoned).
25 Hichun kisuhtheng na thudol'a John seijui ho leh Judah mi phabep kikah'a kinelna anasoh in ahi.
Now a discussion arose between some of John’s disciples and a fellow Jew on the subject of purification;
26 Hijeh chun John seijui ho ahenga ahung'un, ajah'a “Rabbi (hichu houhil tina ahi), Jordan luigala nakimupi a ama Messiah ahi tia nahettoh sah pa jong chun miho baptize achansah jin ahi. Chuleh mi tampi eiho henga hungtalouvin ama henga ache tauve,” atiuvin ahi.
and the disciples came to John and said, ‘Rabbi, the man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, and to whom you have yourself borne testimony – he, also, is baptizing, and everybody is going to him.’
27 Chuin John in adonbut'in “Pathen in vana kona apehlou chu, koima ima achangthei poi.
John’s answer was – ‘A person can gain nothing but what is given them from heaven.
28 Keiman nahenguva kasei chu, nangho ahetoh'ah nahiuve; keima Christa kahipoi, ama lampi semtoh dinga hung kahi bouve.
You are yourselves witnesses that I said “I am not the Christ,” but “I have been sent before him as a messenger.”
29 Hiche hi ahi, mou kichenpia chu moulang ahin; chuleh moulang jolpa vang chu moulang koma adin'a moulang kitep na ajah chu akipana ahijenge. Hijeh chun ama lolhin na chun keima kipana dim'a eikoi ahi.
It is the groom who has the bride; but the groom’s friend, who stands by and listens to him, is filled with joy when he hears the groom’s voice. This joy I have felt to the full.
30 Ama chu khangtou touding, chule keima kemsuh suh ding kahi. Vana hungkon Yeshua
He must become greater, and I less.’
31 Ama chunga hungkon ahin, mijouse sanga chung nungjo ahi; Eiho leiset'a kon ihiuvin, leiset thu iseiyu ahi, ahivangin ama chu chunga kon ahijeh'in mi jouse chunga achungnungpen ahi.
He who comes from above is above all others; but a child of earth is earthly, and his teaching is earthly, too. He who comes from heaven is above all others.
32 Aman amu leh ajah chu ahettohsah ahi, ahivangin ama hettohsah chu koiman asangpoi.
He states what he has seen and what he heard, and yet no one accepts his statement.
33 Hijeh chun koi hileh, athu hettohsah tahsan'a kisan chun Pathen dihtah chu apomdet ahitai.
They who did accept his statement confirm the fact that God is true.
34 Ama chu Pathen hinsol ahi, Aman Pathen thutah aseiye, ajeh chu ama Pathen lhagao dimset'a kipe ahi.
For he whom God sent as his messenger gives us God’s own teaching, for God does not limit the gift of the Spirit.
35 Pa chun Achapa angailun, chule ima jouse ama khut'a apetai.
The Father loves his Son, and has put everything in his hands.
36 Hijeh chun, koi hijongleh Pathen tahsan'a chun tonsot hinna anei ahitai. Pathen chapa thungailou vang chu tonsot hinna changlouva Pathen lunghan na thutan chu achunga chu ding ahi,” ati. (aiōnios )
The person who believes in the Son has eternal life, while a person who rejects the Son will not even see that life, but remains under God’s displeasure. (aiōnios )
