And Rachel saw she had borne no children unto Jacob, so Rachel became envious of her sister, —and said unto Jacob, Come! give me children, or else, I die.

2 Jacob chu Rachel chunga alung hang jah jeng in, “Keima Pathen ka hipoi ama ahi cha nei louva na koi, na naobu khah tan achu,” ati.

Then kindled the anger of Jacob with Rachel, —and he said, Am I, in the place of God, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

3 Hichun Rachel in adonbut in, “Kasohnu Bilhah hi galup khompi tan, chutile amanun nao eihin peh intin chua konna chu keiman jong ka chilhah insung kaki semdoh thei ding ahi,” ati.

And she said, Lo! my handmaid, Bilhah. Go in unto her, —that she may bear upon my knees, so that, I also, may be builded up by her!

And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid, to wife, —and Jacob went in unto her;

5 Bilhah in nao ahinvop'in Jacob ding in chapa khat ahin peh tai.

and Bilhah conceived, and bare unto Jacob a son;

6 Hichun Rachel in aseiye, “Pathen in ka lunggel eisu bulhit pehtai, chule katao na jong eisan peh in chapa eipe tai atin hijeh chun naosen min chu Dan asahtai.”

and Rachel said God hath vindicated me. Moreover also he hath hearkened unto my voice, and hath given me a son. For this cause, called she his name Dan.

7 Chuin Rachel sohnu Bilhah chun nao avop kit in Jacob chapa anina ahin peh kittai.

And Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid conceived again, and bare a second son to Jacob.

8 Hichun Rachel'in, “Keiman ka sopinu toh hatah a kaki set delna lhon a keiman kajou tai,” atin hichun naosen min chu Napthali asah tai.

Then said Rachel With wrestlings of God, have I wrestled with my sister Yea I have prevailed. So she called his name, Naphtali.

Then saw Leah, that she had left off bearing, —so she took Zilpah, her handmaid, and gave her to Jacob to wife.

10 Hijeh chun Leah sohnu Zilpah chun Jacob ding in chapa khat ahin pehtai.

And Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid, bare to Jacob a son:

11 Hichun Leah in hitin aseiye, “Hamphat aum bouve,” atin naosen min chu “Gad” asah tai. Hichun avetsah chu, keima iti vangphat kahi hitam tina ahi.

and Leah said, Victory hath come! So she called his name Gad.

12 Hichun Leah sohnu Zilpah chun Jacob chapa anina chu ahin peh kitin ahi.

And Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid bare a second son to Jacob;

13 Leah chun aseiye, “Keiya din iti thanop um hitam, tua hi numei dang jousen hatah a eiki papi diu ahitai,” atin hiche naosen min chu Asher asah tai.

and Leah said, For my happiness, surely happy have daughters pronounced me. So she called his name, Asher.

14 Nikhat Reuben chu suhlou chang vohlai in akon in ahile loulai achun Joldei-Ai (Mandrake) amun anu Leah ahin poh peh in ahile, hichun Rachel in Leah koma “lungset tah in na chapa Joldei-Ai hinpoh chu kei jong nei hom thei ding ham tin athum tai.”

Then went Reuben, in the days of the wheat harvest, and found mandrakes, in the field, and brought them in unto Leah his mother, and Rachel said unto Leah, Pray give me, some of the mandrakes of thy son

And Jacob came in from the field, in the evening, so Leah went out to meet him and said: Unto me, shalt thou come in, for I have hired, thee, even with the mandrakes of my son. And he lay with her that night,

And God hearkened unto Leah, —and she conceived and bare to Jacob a fifth son.

Then said Leah. God hath given my hire, in that I gave my handmaid to my husband. So she called his name, Issachar.

19 Chujouvin jong Leah chun nao avop kit'in Jacob ding in chapa gup lhinna ahin peh kit tai.

And Leah conceived again and bare a sixth son to Jacob.

20 Hichun Leah in asei tan, “Pathen in keima numei thilken phatah tah eiken peh tai, tuapat'in kaji pan ngailutna sangtah einei ding ahi tai, ajeh chu chapa gup kaneipeh tai,” hichun amanun naosen min chu Zebulun asah tai.

Then said Leah, God hath dowered me even me with a hand-some dowry, Now! will my husband dwell with me, for I have borne him six sons. So she called his name, Zebulon.

21 Ahin phat chomkhat jouvin nao numei khat ahingin amin chu Dinah asah in ahi.

And afterwards she bare a daughter, —so she called her name, Dinah.

22 Hichun Pathen in Rachel chu asumil pon Pathen in ataona asanpeh in anaobu chu ahon pehtai.

Then God remembered Rachel, —and God hearkened unto her, and granted her to bear.

23 Hijeh chun Rachel in jong nao ahin vop'in chapa khat ahin neitai; hichun Rachel in hitin aseiye, “Pathen in kaja chatna jouse asubeitai,” ati.

So she conceived and bare a son, —and said, God hath taken away my reproach;

24 Rachel'in anao min chu Joseph asah in hitin aseiye, “Pakaiyin chapa dang khat jong eihin sah kit teitei hen o!” ati.

So she called his name Joseph, saying, Yahweh is adding unto me another son.

25 Rachel in Joseph ahin neijou phat chun, Jacob in Laban koma asei tai, “Nei nungsol tan kagam lang uva,” ati.

And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Let me go that I may take my journey, unto my place, and to my land.

26 Kajite kachate neipe dohtan phat sottah nangma in alhachan ka pangtan, tua hi keima ki nungle phat ahung hitai, chule ito banga nangma na katoh peh nahim nangman nakihet nai ati.

Come, give me my wives and my children for whom I have served thee and let me take my journey, —for, thou, knowest my service wherewith I have served thee.

27 Ahin Laban in Jacob jah a aseiye, “Ahithei dingle lungset tah in neida lha hih in ajeh chu nangma ka insunga na hung lutna pat in Pathen in phatthei eiboh lheh jeng in ahi.

And Laban said unto him, If, I pray thee, I have found favour in thine eyes, …I have divined that Yahweh hath blessed me for thy sake.

And he said, —Come, fix thy wages for me, that I may give it!

And he said unto him, Thou, knowest how I have served thee, —and how thy cattle have fared, with me.

30 “Ajeh chu keima ka hung masang chun themcha bou na neijin tun apung jal tan, Pathen in hatah in phatthei na boh tan ahi. Ahile itih phat hi ding ham? keima insunga ding katoh na ding,” ati.

For it was, little, that thou hadst—before I came and then it brake forth into multitude, and Yahweh blessed thee at my every step. Now, therefore, when am, I, also to do something for my own house?

31 Chule Laban in adong kitin, “Ipiba ka peh ding ham? Jacob'in aseiye, Imacha neipe hih in, ahin thil khat neibol peh le chun keiman nagancha na vettup peh nang'e ati.

And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said: Thou shall give me, nothing at all, If thou wilt do for me this thing, I will return, I will shepherd thy flock I will keep it:

Let me pass through all thy flock to-day, removing from thence every young one that is speckled and spotted and every young one that is dark-coloured among the young sheep, and spotted and speckled among the goats, and they shall be my wages.

33 Khonung teng kana toh man sutoh dinga nahung teng ka kitah na nahin muchen thei na dingin, kelchate lah a apol lou hihen, ha pol a pol lou akimu doh khah a, kelngoi lah a jong apol lou khattou aum khah a ahile hiche ho se chu nangma akona kaguh a kisim jeng thei ding ahi,” ati.

And my righteousness shall answer for me on a future day, when thou shall come in respecting my hire that is before thee, Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats and dark-coloured among the young sheep, stolen, shall it be accounted, if found with me.

34 Hichun Laban in adonbut in, “Apha lheh jeng'e nangman nasei bang chu himai tahen,” ati.

Then said Laban, Lo! would it might be according to thy word!

35 Hinlah Laban in hiche nikho ma ma chun kelcha achal asandup apol, chule abeh beh a kang kelcha anu apol ho, chule kelngoi avom ho jouse chu achapa koma abon'in agathah doh sah sohkei in ahi.

So he removed, on that day, the he-goats that were striped and spotted and all the she-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and every dark-coloured one among the young sheep, —and delivered them into the hand of his sons;

36 Hichun aman Jacob to nithum jen lampi a kigam lat'in asol mangtai, chule Jacob in Laban gancha aki thah lou jouse chu aching jom jing tan ahi.

then put he a journey of three days between himself and Jacob, —but, Jacob himself, continued tending the flocks of Laban that were left.

37 Chuin Jacob in Almond le Shiga phung bah ho chu amal ngim in hiche thingbah avel akang lai ho chu kelcha ho amusah in ahi.

So then Jacob took him rods of young storax, and hazel and maple, —and peeled in them white stripes, laying bare the white which was on the rods.

38 Hichun Jacob in thingbah amal ngim hon chu kelngoi ho twi donna konga akoiyin, kelngoite twichip dinga ahung ji teng ule kijang matji ahi jeh uva akoi ahi.

And he set the rods which he had peeled, in the channels in the troughs of water, —where the flocks came in to drink straight before the flocks, and the females of the flock used to be in heat when they came in to drink;

39 Kelngoi ho chu thingbah akang lai masanga chu ki jang mat ji, chuteng chule kelngoite chun akang pol jong, hapol a pol jong ahin hing doh doh tauve.

and the males of the flock were in heat before the rods, —so the flocks brought forth ring-straked, speckled, and spotted.

40 Jacob in kelngoi ho chu ahoikhen in Laban kelngoi hon lah a akangpol ho leh avom ho chu ahoikhen in ama chan ding chengse chu atum in akhen doh in, Laban a lah achun ahoi lut tapoi.

The rams also, did Jacob separate, and then set the faces of the flocks towards the ring-straked and all the dark-coloured, among the flocks of Laban, —and he put his own droves by themselves, and put them not with the flocks of Laban.

41 Hiti chun kelngoi lah a asapha ho chu aki jang mat teng ule thingbah ho amu uva, aki jang mat theina ding uvin Jacob in jong thingbah ho amasang uva twi lonna kom laiya aga jam peh jin ahi.

So it came to pass whensoever the stronger of the flocks were in heat, that Jacob set the rods before the eyes of the flocks in the channels, —that the females might be in heat among the rods;

42 Hinlah Jacob'in kelngoi atahsa phalou ho ahi tengle aga jamle jipoi, ajeh chu Laban a chu asapha lou jeng ahin, Jacob a vang chu asapha jeng ahiuve.

but, when the flocks were late in bearing, he did not set them, —and so the late-born were Laban’s, but the strong ones Jacob’s.

43 Hijeh chun Jacob chu ahung hao thei lheh tan, kelngoi tamtah ahin neitan, soh numei ahin soh pasal ahin tamtah aneiyin, chule sangan le sangangsao jong tamtah anei doh tai.

Thus did the man break forth, exceedingly, —thus came he to have flocks in abundance, and maid-servants, and men-servants and camels and asses.
