< Thuhilpa 4 >

1 Avel in, keiman nipi noija kibol hesohna jouse ka mun ahi. Keiman akibol hesohho mitlhi lon kamun, alhamon ding’u koima aum poi. Agimbol hou chun thuneina lentah anei juvin, chule amaho khutnoija umho chun ima thuneina aneipouve.
And I turned about, and beheld all the oppressed that are made so under the sun: and, behold, there are the tears of the oppressed, and they have no comforter; and from the hand of their oppressors they suffer violence; and they have no comforter.
2 Hiti hin keiman kangel lhah chu, mithisa hohi mihingho sangin aphat johnau aum’e, kati.
Thereupon praised I the dead that are already dead, more than the living who are still alive;
3 Ahinlah apeng lou laiho ding in gam cheng in apha chom jo nalaije. Ajeh chu nipi noija thilse kibol hohi amahon amukhah louvu ahi.
And as happier than both of them, him who hath not yet come into being, who hath not seen the evil-doing that is done under the sun.—
4 Chutah in keiman kamu doh chu mi atamjo hi lolhinna ding in akitilkhou uve, ajeh chu amaho aheng le akom-u mihou jeng ahi. Hinlah hiche jong hi ajeh bei tobang aum den lou ding hija ahi.
Again, I beheld all the toil, and all the energy in doing, that it is [from] the envy of one man of his neighbor. Also this is vanity and a torture of the spirit.
5 ‘‘Mingol hon athasetnau khut akisip chah’u chu amahthahna ding’u ahi.’’
The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.
6 Ahijeng vang'in, “Khut khat dim thip khen cha nei ding hi khutni dimset aum den lou ding, tongimma nei sang in aphajoi.”
Better is a handful of quiet, than both the hands full of toil and torture of spirit.
7 Keiman nipi noija vetsahna jat chom beh khat kavet be kit in ahi.
Then I turned about, and I saw a vanity under the sun.
8 Hiche hi mikhat ama changseh’a khosapa thudol ahin, cha khat jong neilou, sopi pasal jong neilou ahia, ajo channa tong gimma neile nga khol khoma ahi. Hiti chun amale ama aki dong in, “Koi dinga tonggima ka him? Tua hi ibola keiman nopsahna donse louva kahi hitam?” ati. Hiche ho jouse hi ajeh apol beihel le lung lhahna thei tah ahibouve.
There is one alone, and he hath not a companion; yea, he hath neither son nor brother: yet is there no end to all his toil; his eye also is not satisfied with riches. Yet for whom do I toil, and deprive my soul of good? Also this is vanity, yea, it is a bad employment.
9 Mini hi mikhat sang in aphachom joi, ajeh chu amani chu kihuto thei gel hilhonna lolhing thei ding ahi lhon’e.
Two are better than one; because they will have a good reward for their toil.
10 Mikhat chu alhuh’a ahi leh, khat joh chun akhut alhan doh’a akithopi thei ahi. Hinlah koiham khat chu achangin lhu taleh boimong mong ding ahi tai.
For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to the single one that falleth; for he hath no companion to lift him up.
11 Hitobangma chun, mini chu alup khom lhonna ahileh aki sang lum to gel lhon thei je. Hinlah mikhat chu iti lum doh jou ding hitam?
Also, if two lie together, then will they become warm; but how can one person alone become warm?
12 Mikhat achanga ding chu midang in adelkhuma chule ajo paithei ahin, hijongleh mini vang chu kinung thopto lhonna chule ajothei lhon ding ahi. Thumchu pha cheh’a ahi, ajeh chu khaohol thum'a kihal lhop chu bailam tah’a kibot tanlou ding ahi.
And if a man could overpower him, the single one, two would stand up against him: and a threefold cord cannot quickly be torn asunder.
13 Khangthah mivaicha le chingtah pachu tehse le lungngol koimahil lalou Lengpa sang in apha chom joi.
Better is a poor and a wise youth than an old and foolish king, who knoweth not how to be admonished any more.
14 Chutobang khangdongpa chu vaichatna a konna hung kithou dohtheija chule lolhing thei ahije. Ama chu songkulla umjong leh ama chu leng hung chang thei jong ahi nalaije.
For out of the prison cometh the one to reign: whereas also in his kingdom the other becometh poor.
15 Hinlah amitakip chu athalhenga pangpa, khangdong chomdangpa koma chun aga lhailut jo jiuvin ahi.
I have seen all the living who walk under the sun, being with the second child that is to stand up in his stead.
16 Mihonpi chu kichai tih um louvin akoma chun ahung ding khom’uvin, hinlah khang ahung kikhel phat chun ama jong chu adeimo bolkittauvin ahi. Hijeh chun hiche ho jouse hi ajeh beile phatchomna bei ahi sohkeije.
There was no end to all the people, [belonging] to all that have been before them: they also that come after will not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and a torture of the spirit.—
