< Daniel 1 >
1 Judah lengpa, Jehoiakim lengvaipoh kumthum lhin kumin, Babylon lengpa Nebuchadnezzar chu Jerusalem’a ahungin, khopi chu a-umkimin, a-opkhumden tai.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 Pakaiyin, Nebuchadnezzar chu, Judah lengpa Jehoiakim chung’a galjona apen, lengpa leh Pathen houin’a thil theng phabep ho jong, akhut’a apedoh tai. Hijeh chun Nebuchadnezzar’in, lengpa ahin, thil achom ho chu ahin, abonin Babylon gam’a apolutin, athil ho jouse chu ama pathen Hou-in’a thil kikholna’a chun akoi tai.
And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim the king of Judah and a portion of the vessels of the house of God. And he carried them away into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the treasure chamber of his god.
3 Chu-in lengpa’n a sepai lamkai Ashpenaz kiti nukiso ho pipua pangpa jah’a, galhing’a hung kikaiho lah’a, Judah lengte insungmi phabep chuleh adang milen milal ho insungmi phabep, ama leng inpia ahinpuilut dingin thu apetai.
And the king told Ashpenaz, the chief of the eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the sons of Israel, and some of the offspring of the king and of the sovereigns:
4 Aman golhang melpha, chihna leh hetna bukim, tahsa damthei chuleh leng inpia lolhing tah’a lhacha thei ding, holdoh inlang, amaho chu Babylon gam pao leh chondan lekha hil ding chuleh jilsah ding ahiuve, ati.
young men, in whom there was no blemish, noble in appearance, and accomplished in all wisdom, cautious in knowledge, and well-educated, and who could stand in the palace of the king, so that he might teach them the letters and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Lengpa’n amaho ding chun, niseh’a ama neh leh don bang bang, an-neh twitah leh don ding ju twitah, agonpehin ahi. Kumthum sung’a amaho chu, kihilna leh kijilna anei uva chujou tahleh, leng inpi vaihom lhacha ding’a lut ding ahiuve.
And the king appointed for them provisions for each day, from his own food and from the wine which he himself drank, so that, after being nourished for three years, they would stand in the sight of the king.
6 Judah phung leh nam’a kon’a kilheng doh golhang khangdong mili ho chu Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael chuleh Azariah ahiuve.
Now, among those of the sons of Judah, there were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 Nu-kiso ho lamkai pipu chun, amahose chu, Babylonte minthah asempehin, Daniel chu Belteshazzar, Hananiah chu Shadrach, Mishael chu Meshach chuleh Azariah chu Abednego asah tan ahi.
And the chief of the eunuchs assigned names to them: to Daniel, Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
8 Ahivangin, Daniel chun lengpa’a kon anneh twitah leh don ding ju twitah hung kipe chu, neh’a chuleh don’a ama hinna kisuh boh louna dingin, kigellhahna dettah aneitai. Hijeh chun, aman nukiso ho pipu kom’a chun, lengpa’a kon hung kipe neh leh don hochu, nehdateina dingin phalna athum tai.
But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not be polluted with the king’s meal, nor with the wine he drank, and he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not be contaminated.
9 Hichun, Pathenin, nukiso ho pipu pa lungsung’a chun, Daniel hepina leh gelkhohna ahinpe tan ahi.
And so God gave Daniel grace and mercy in the sight of the leader of the eunuchs.
10 Ahivangin nukiso ho pipu chun, Daniel jah’a, “Nangho ding anneh leh don ding ju, gongtup’a eipansahpa kapu lengpa kakicha lheh e. Ijem-tin, nakibahpi na gol ho sangin namel hung gong hen lang, na tahsa hung lhasam khaleh, nangma jal’a keima lu kitan lo ding ahi, kati aja lheh’e,’’ ati tai.
And the leader of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed food and drink for you, who, if he should see that your faces are leaner than those of the other youths your age, you would condemn my head to the king.”
11 Hichun Danielin, nukiso ho pipu pan amaho chu: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael chuleh Azariah, vetup ding’a atum’a anganse pa jah’a chun, asei tai.
And Daniel said to Malasar, whom the leader of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 Lungset in, nisom sung nei patepun, kaneh diu anche leh ka don diu twi keoseh bou neipeuvin.
“I beg you to test us, your servants, for ten days, and let roots be given to us to eat and water to drink,
13 Nisom jou tengleh, lengpa’a kon anneh twitah nea chuleh ju twitah don golhang ho chutoh neivet kah’un. Hichea namubang bang chun, keiho chung’a thulhuhna bol jengin, khoh kasa pouve, ati tai.
and then observe our faces, and the faces of the children who eat the king’s food, and then deal with your servants according to what you see.”
14 Hichun, Daniel thusei chu, amaho vetup’a pangpan anop pehin, nisom sung apatepin avetai.
When he had heard these words, he tested them for ten days.
15 Nisom lhinin, lengpa anneh twitah leh ju twitah’a kivah golhang ho sangin, Daniel leh aloi mithum ho chu, amel’u ahoijoh’a chuleh atahsa’u jong adamthei joh chu, mudoh ahitauve.
But, after ten days, their faces appeared better and fatter than all the children who had eaten from the king’s food.
16 Hichun achinguva pangpa chun, amaho ding’a kigong anneh twitah leh ju hochu aladohin, aneh diuvin anche bou apetai.
Thereafter, Malasar took away their portions and their wine for drinking, and he gave them roots.
17 Pathenin hiche golhang li ho chu, midang ho sangin chihna, thepna chuleh ijakai hetna apen ahi. Chuleh adehsetin, Daniel chu, themgao thu leh mang ho hetna leh ledoh theina apen ahi.
Yet, to these children, God gave knowledge and instruction in every book, and wisdom, but to Daniel, also the understanding of all visions and dreams.
18 Akijilnau phatsung alhin tah chun, lengpa thupeh dungyuijin, nukiso ho pipu chun, amaho chu abon’un Nebuchadnezzar lengpa angsung’a ahin pui lut tai.
And when the time was completed, after which the king had said that they would be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before the sight of Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Lengpa’n amaho chu akihoupin ahileh, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael chuleh Azariah ho chung’a alung lhei bang chun, midang koima chung’a amu tapoi. Hijeh chun, amaho chu leng inpia lhacha vaihom in alut tauvin ahi.
And, when the king conversed with them, there had not been found any so great in all the world as Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; and so they stood in the sight of the king.
20 Hichun lengpa’n amaho chu, chihna leh hetkhenna pum’a thutan vaihomna thuho adoh’a akihoupina-a chun, alenggam sung pumpia mitpheldoi themho leh ai-lhim themho jouse sangin, ale som in athemjo uve ti amudoh tan ahi.
And in every concept of wisdom and understanding, about which the king consulted with them, he found them to be ten times better than all the seers and astrologers put together, who were in his entire kingdom.
21 Daniel chu, Cyrus lengpa lengchan kal kumkhat lhingei jin, leng inpi lhacha vaihom in apang in ahi.
And so Daniel remained, even until the first year of king Cyrus.
