< 1 Samuel 8 >

1 Samuel ateh lheh tan ahile, Israel lah’a thutan vaihom ding’in achapate apansah tai.
And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons judges to Israel;
2 Joel le Abijah chu achate lah’a akum tampen teni ahilhone, amani Beersheba khopi’ah thutan vaihom’in apang lhone.
and the name of his firstborn son was, Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah, —they were judges in Beer-sheba.
3 Ahivangin apa toh abang lhonpoi, sum lam’ah akitah lhonpoi. Amanin sum nehguh pou abol lhonin, thu adih in atanji lhon tapoi.
Howbeit his sons walked not in his ways, but stooped to extortion, —and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
4 Achai’nan Israel upa ho jouse chu Ramah kho’ah Samuel toh lunggel khomna anei juvin ahi.
So then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, —and came unto Samuel, to Ramah;
5 Amahon, “Ven, nangla nateh lheh jengtan, nachate jong nangtoh abang lhonpon, Leng khat neipeuvin namdang ten anei banga thutan dingin,” atin aseipeh un ahi.
and said unto him—Lo! thou, art old, and, thy sons, walk not in thy ways: Now, appoint for us a king to judge us, like all the nations.
6 Samuel vang chu athil ngaichat’u chung’ah chun alung alhaipoi, hijeh chun panpi ngaichan Pakai koma ache’in ahi.
But the thing was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, Give unto us a king to judge us. So Samuel prayed unto Yahweh.
7 Pakaiyin Samuel jah’a, “Nakoma asei jouseu bolpeh in, nang napaiju ahipoi, keijoh eipaiju ahibouve, amahon kei eidei lou u ahibouve, aleng diuva eidei lou u ahi,” tin adonbut tan ahi.
And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people, in all that they shall say unto thee, —for, not thee, have they rejected, but, me, have they rejected, from being king over them.
8 “Egypt gam'a kona kahin puidoh uva kipat’na gamchom mite indoi bou ahou nom jo uve. Tua jong hitobangma achu nang jong nabollu ahibouve,” ati.
According to all the doings which they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt, even until this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so, are they doing even unto thee.
9 “Asei jouseu chu bolpeh in, ahinlah leng khat in achunguva vai ahin hopna ding thua hin, kaangkhen chan gihsallin,” atipeh tai.
Now, therefore, hearken to their voice, —save that thou, enter protest, against them, and tell them the manner of the king who will reign over them.
10 Hijeh chun Samuel in, Pakaiya kona gihna thuchang hochu Israel mite chu leng athumnao chungthu’ah chun aban ban’in ahetsah tan ahi.
So then Samuel spake all the words of Yahweh unto the people, who were asking of him, a king.
11 Samuel Israelte jah’ah, “Leng nahin nei uva aman nachung’uva lengvai ahin hop tengle, Leng in nachateu chu alah’a sakol kangtalai hole sakol sepai dinga, chule sakol kangtalai masanga lhai dinga,
And he said, This, will be the manner of the king who will reign over you, —Your sons, will he take and appoint for himself, as his charioteers and as his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;
12 Abangkhat chu sepai lah a jalamkai chule lamkai napeh dingu, abang kit chu pumthou chang loukaiya apan sah dingu, abangkhat chu kangtalai ase ho sema napan sah diu ahi,” ati.
and he will appoint for himself, princes of thousands, and princes of fifties, —and to plough his fields, and to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war, and the instruments of his chariots;
13 “Lengpan nachanu teu amat uva anhon'a apansah uva, abang chu changlhah kang a apansah diu chujongle abangkhat chu thao namtwi sem’a apansah uva soh’a anei diu ahi.
And, your daughters, will he take, —as perfumers and as cooks, and as bakers;
14 Nalou phalai ho jouse nalah peh uva lengpithei lei le olive leija abol uva athao alah tenguleh atohkhompi ho apeh ding’u ahi.
And, your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best of them, will he take, and give to his servants;
15 Aman na chang-ga le lousoh ho akona soma khat alah ding chule vaibolla pang hole sohte ho apeh ding’u ahi.
And, your seed, and your vineyards, will he tithe, and give to his courtiers and to his servants;
16 Aman napasal houle, numei ho soh dia akimat a, chule nagancha hoilai lai ho ama dinga akilah ding ahi.
And, your men-servants, and your maidservants, and your oxen, even the goodliest, and your asses, will he take, —and put them to his work;
17 Aman na ganchahon ho jeng’a jong soma khat angeh ding, nachamlouva napeh ding ahi.
Your flocks, will he tithe, —and, ye yourselves, shall become his servants.
18 Chuche nikho chuleh nanghon nakilhen’u lengpa jeh’a chu nahung ka diu chule Pakaiyin naka gin’u nangaipeh lou diu ahi,” tin aseipeh tai.
Then will ye make outcry, in that day, because of your king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, —and Yahweh will not answer you, in that day.
19 Ahivangin mipite ho chun, “Hijeng jongleh Leng chu kadei nalaiyuve,” tin Samuel thusei chu angaisah dehpouvin ahi.
But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel, —and they said—Nay! but, a king, shall be over us:
20 Hichun mipi ho chun, “Kakimvel uva gamdang ho bangin, kalengpau vin kachung uva thutan hen, gal kisat jeng’a jong hin eilamkai uhen,” ati tauvin ahi.
so shall, even we, become like all the nations, —and our king shall judge us, and go forth before us, and fight our battles.
21 Hichun Samuel in Pakai kom’ah mipi ho thusei chu aseipeh kit in ahile,
And Samuel heard all the words of the people, —and spake them in the ears of Yahweh.
22 Pakaiyin, “Asei bang bang u chun bolpeh inlang, Leng chu petan,” ati. Hichun Samuel jong anom’in mipi teho chu ainlam cheh uva anung soltan ahi,
And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel: Go ye, every man to his own city.
