Now it happened on a day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who bore his armour, “Come! Let’s go over to the Philistines’ garrison that is on the other side.” But he didn’t tell his father.
2 Phat chomkhat jouvin, Saul in mi jagup chu Gibeah khopi pamlanga Migron muna kolbuthei phung vella chun anakhom khom’in ahi.
Saul stayed in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron; and the people who were with him were about six hundred men,
3 Saul miho lah’a chu Ahijah chun thempu von ephod chu akivon in ahi. Ahijah chu Ichabod sopipa Ahituh chapa ahin, Ahituh chu Phinehas chapa, Shiloh’a um Eli chapa Pathen thempu tupa ahi. Joathan in Israelte ngahmun adalhai ti koiman ahetlou ahi.
including Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli the priest of the LORD in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. The people didn’t know that Jonathan was gone.
4 Philisitne te ngahmun lutna dia chu Jonathan in lampi jet le veiya songpi kochet chut khat gel aumin, songpi khatpa min chu Bozez ahin, khatjopa chu amin Seneh ahi.
Between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines’ garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side and a rocky crag on the other side; and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
5 Sahlama a songpi khat aum in, khatjoh Micmash lhanglam a um, Geba lam angat gel ahi lhone.
The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.
6 Hichun Jonathan in, “Hiche cheptan lou sepai ho ngahmun lah’a khun cheuhite, Pakiyin eini eikithopeh tei lhon ding ahi, ajeh chu Pakai chu koiman atin jouthei loudi ahi, Aman gal eijosah teidiu ahi, lhomcha hijongleu hen ijotei diu ahi,” ati.
Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armour, “Come! Let’s go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for there is no restraint on the LORD to save by many or by few.”
7 Hichun gollhang agavon popan, “Ipi hile phante natipen chu boljengin, chule keima nakoma kaumnai, nagellhuh bangin bol jengin,” tin adonbut in ahi.
His armour bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go, and behold, I am with you according to your heart.”
8 Jonathan in, “Achutile aphalheh’e, eini galut hitin, amaho gakimu sah hite,” ati.
Then Jonathan said, “Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.
9 Ahinla amahon, ‘Naum na lhonah dingden lhon’in achuti louva ahileh katha diu ahi atiuva ahile ikaltou lou ding,
If they say this to us, ‘Wait until we come to you!’ then we will stand still in our place and will not go up to them.
10 Ahinlah, ‘Hung kaltou lhon in kisat ute’ atiuva ahileh ikaltou lhon ding ahin, hichu Pakaiya kona melchihna khat hiding ahin aman eikithopi lhon’a i-jo lhon ding ahi,” ati.
But if they say this, ‘Come up to us!’ then we will go up, for the LORD has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us.”
11 Chuin Philistine ten amu phat un ahoh un, “Veuvin, Hebrew miho akosunga konin ahung potdoh tauve atiuve.”
Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines; and the Philistines said, “Behold, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves!”
12 Chuin khopi ngah a umpa chun Jonathan ahin sam’in, “Hichea hungkal tou in, thil khat navetsah unge atiuve,” ati. Chuin Jonathan in agalvon popa jah’ah, “Hungin hungkal touvin, Pathen’in eipanpi lhona ijotei lhon ding ahi!” ati.
The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armour bearer, and said, “Come up to us, and we will show you something!” Jonathan said to his armour bearer, “Come up after me, for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”
13 Chuin amanin akhut le akeng atholhon in akaltou lhon ahile, Philistine mite chu Jonathan masanga abokhuma asot lhah jengle, anung’ahung kaltou agalvon popan ana that-thuthu jeng in ahi.
Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armour bearer after him, and they fell before Jonathan; and his armour bearer killed them after him.
14 Amanin, mi somni athat lhon in, atahsa u chu acre keh khat’a len sung ‘ah athethang lhone.
That first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armour bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow’s length in an acre of land.
15 Hitichun gangtah’in, Philistine te gamsung ho lahle camp jousea thusoh chu ahung kithang soh tan, loujaova mipi holah le mijouse lah’a chun tijat na nasatah in aumtan, sepai hon hole thilchom hojong ati akihot hot’un chule ling jong akihot’e.
There was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and amongst all the people; the garrison and the raiders also trembled; and the earth quaked, so there was an exceedingly great trembling.
16 Chuin Saul in Gibeah Benjamin gamlang agal-lang chu avet’a ahile Philistine mite simsenlou chu muntin gamtin ah ajam cheh gam tauvin ahi.
The watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and behold, the multitude melted away and scattered.
17 Saul in asepai te jah’a thu apen, “Min kou unlang, koi koi um’a, koi koi umlou ham,” ati. Hitia chu akihol ule Jonathan le agal manchah popa aum tapon ahi.
Then Saul said to the people who were with him, “Count now, and see who is missing from us.” When they had counted, behold, Jonathan and his armour bearer were not there.
18 Chuin Saul chu Ahijah chunga alunghang in, “Pathen thingkong chu hilam’ah hin choiyun,” ati. Hiche nikhoa chu Ahijah chu thempu von’in akivon in Pathen thingkong chu Isarelte masang’a aput ahi.
Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring God’s ark here.” For God’s ark was with the children of Israel at that time.
19 Ahin Saul thempupa toh aki houlim sungse chun Philistine ngahmun sunga chun boina ahaginjep jep’in ahi. Hichun Saul in thempupa jah’a, “Imacha akhohpoi chejom jingo hite,” ati.
While Saul talked to the priest, the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased; and Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand!”
20 Chuin Saul le asepaite chu galmuna ahin nokhum ule Philistine mite chu ama hole amaho akithat to tauvin, boina le kihet khelna nasatah asoh tan ahi.
Saul and all the people who were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle; and behold, they were all striking each other with their swords in very great confusion.
21 Chule tumasang’a Hebrew mi Philistine mite lah’a ana jamlut hojong chu Saul, Jonathan le Israel lah’a adang dang ho langa ahung kiheilut jong aumin ahi.
Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines before and who went up with them into the camp from all around, even they also turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22 Hitichun, Ephraim molsanga ana kisel Israelte jouse chun Philistine te ajam tauve tithu ajah phat un, amaho jong chun galsat na a chun hatah’in anung’u adel’in ahi.
Likewise all the men of Israel who had hidden themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
23 Chuti chun hiche nikho chun Pakaiyin ami Israelte ahuhdoh in chule gal kisat chu Beth-aven geijin gal akisat peh’un ahi.
So the LORD saved Israel that day; and the battle passed over by Beth Aven.
24 Hiche nikho chun Israelte chu alung genthei lheh un ahi, ajeh chu, “Saul in kamelmate phu kalah theina ding in, nilhah ahi kahsea an nea chu sapset changhen tia mipi chu akihahsel sah ahi.” Hijeh a chu sun nilhum keiya koima anne umlou ahi.
The men of Israel were distressed that day; for Saul had adjured the people, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food until it is evening, and I am avenged of my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.
25 Hijeh chun, amahon gamlah lampia chu khoibel khat ana um amu vang’un koiman anepouvin ahi.
All the people came into the forest; and there was honey on the ground.
26 Chuin khoiju chu mipi koima chan ana ne ngam pouvin ahi. Ajeh chu kihahsel na uchu akichat’u ahi.
When the people had come to the forest, behold, honey was dripping, but no one put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.
27 Ahinlah Jonathan in apa thupeh chu ana jahlou jeh’in, atenggol muh’in khoiphang khat agah sun in, agah tepma ahile, atha akido ma ma jeng in ahi.
But Jonathan didn’t hear when his father commanded the people with the oath. Therefore he put out the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes brightened.
28 Ahin mikhat in hichu ana mudoh in, “Napan mipi nasatah’a eigihsal uva, tunia nilhum masanga an-nea mi chu sapset changhen tia eigaosap jeh uva koiman ka neh lou u ahi, hijeh a chu mipi jong hung lhasam ah ahi,” ati.
Then one of the people answered, and said, “Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food today.’” So the people were faint.
29 Chuin Jonathan in, “Kapan gamsung hi agenthei sah ahi. Hitobang thupeh chun eiho ma ma eisuhgenthei u ahi. Ven hiche khoiju chu themkhat katep jeh’a kamit hi iti hunghah doh hitam?” ati.
Then Jonathan said, “My father has troubled the land. Please look how my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.
30 Mipi jonghin amelmateu thil achom nauva amuhou hi aning anopmin nomtah’in nele phachom lou ding ham? Hijeh a chu eihon tuni geija Philistine te tamtah itha theilou-u hilouham? ati.
How much more, if perhaps the people had eaten freely today of the plunder of their enemies which they found? For now there has been no great slaughter amongst the Philistines.”
31 Chule hiche ni chun Micmash a kipat Aijalon geijin Philistine techu anung adel’un athat peh’un chule mipi chu alhasam lheh jeng tauvin ahi.
They struck the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. The people were very faint;
32 Chuin mipi chu thil kichomho chunga achuvin, kelgoiho, bongchalho, bongnouho, chu tollhanga athat’un thisan pum chun aneuvin ahi.
and the people pounced on the plunder, and took sheep, cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.
33 Mikhat in Saul jah’a, “Mihon sa thisan pumin aneuvin Pakai dounan achonse tauve,” tin anasei doh peh un ahi. Chuin Saul in, “Nathilbol’u chu adihlou ahi, songtum lentah khat kihol’unlang kilih piuvin,” ati.
Then they told Saul, saying, “Behold, the people are sinning against the LORD, in that they eat meat with the blood.” He said, “You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me today!”
34 Saul in aseibe kit’in, “Sepai ho lah’a khun chelut unlang a gancha u, akelngoi u, akelcha u jong kaheng’ah hin choiyun. Hichelai muna hin that’unlang chule naneh masang’un athisan chu lhoh kang hel un, Asa le thisan nehkop jeh’a Pathen dounan chon dauvin,” ati.
Saul said, “Disperse yourselves amongst the people, and tell them, ‘Every man bring me here his ox, and every man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat; and don’t sin against the LORD in eating meat with the blood.’” All the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and killed them there.
35 Chuin Saul in, Pakaiya ding in maicham asemin, hiche maicham chu Saul in Pakaiya dinga maicham asem masat pentah ahi.
Saul built an altar to the LORD. This was the first altar that he built to the LORD.
36 Chuin Saul in amite koma, “Eihon janteng kitolsuh uhitin Philistine te nung del uhitin, khovah kah’in amaho chu thatgam uhitin chomgam u hite,” ati. Hichun mipi jong, “Pha nasah sah chu bol jengin,’ atiuve. Ahivangin Thempupan, “Pathen dong masaute,” ahinti.
Saul said, “Let’s go down after the Philistines by night, and take plunder amongst them until the morning light. Let’s not leave a man of them.” They said, “Do whatever seems good to you.” Then the priest said, “Let’s draw near here to God.”
37 Chuin Saul in Pathen adonge “Philistine te nung kadal diu ham? Kajo nadiuva nei panpi diuham? Ahinlah hiche nichun Pathen in adonbut tapoi.
Saul asked counsel of God: “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.
38 Chuin Saul in lamkaiho koma aseijin, “Adih lou khat aumtai! Galmi lamkai jouse hikoma hung un. Tunia ipi suhkhel ineijum? Kikhol uhite chonset hi hoilaiya umham? Hinkhol doh un.
Saul said, “Draw near here, all you chiefs of the people, and know and see in whom this sin has been today.
39 Ajeh chu Israel huhhing'a hingjing Pakai mina kasei ahi, kachapa Jonathan chunga um ahi jongle ama jeng jong thonlou hel’a thitei teiding ahi,” ati. Ahinla mipiho jouse lah’a kona ipia kona boiham ti koiman aseipoi.
For as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man amongst all the people who answered him.
40 Chuin Saul in aseijin, “Nangho lang khat ah um unlang, keile kachapa Jonathan lang khat ah um lhon inge,” ati. Chule mipiten Saul koma chun, “Phante tia nagel chu aphapen ahi,” ati.
Then he said to all Israel, “You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” The people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”
41 Chuin Saul ataovin, “Oh Pakai Israelte Pathen, koihi dih’a, koihi dihlou hitam neisei peh’un,’ ati. Hichun vang asan ule Jonathan le Saul lhendoh ahung hin, hijeh chun mipi techu ahoidoh tai.
Therefore Saul said to the LORD, the God of Israel, “Show the right.” Jonathan and Saul were chosen, but the people escaped.
42 Chuin Saul in, “Tun vang sang kit uhitin keile Jonathan kah’a dingin,” Tun Jonathan chu athemmon hung kilang doh tai.
Saul said, “Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son.” Jonathan was selected.
43 “Ipi nabolkhel ham nei sei peh in?” hiti chun Saul in Jonathan koma adong in ahi. “Khoiju themkhat kana tep ahi,” thi Jonathan akiphong doh’e. “Tenggol muh’a themcha khat bou, hichun thina asotheiye,” atipeh in ahi.
Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done!” Jonathan told him, and said, “I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; and behold, I must die.”
44 Saul in “Henge Jonathan, nathi tei ding ahi! nathi loule kei neita ding ahi.” Tin aseiyin ahi.
Saul said, “God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”
45 Ahin mipiten Saul komah, “Jonathan in Israel dia gal lentah eijopeh u ahin, Jonathan hi thiding ham?’ tin anadongui. Hichu ahiding ahile, Pathen in jadahen, hingjing Pakai mina kaseiju ahi, aluchunga kon samjang khat jong lha lou ding ahi. Ajeh chu tunin Pathen toh atongkhom in ahi,” atiuvin. Hijeh chun mipiten Jonathan ahuhdoh’un, athisah tapouve.
The people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has worked with God today!” So the people rescued Jonathan, so he didn’t die.
46 Saul chu Philistine te nung adel naova konin achetou tan chule Philistine te jong aumnau vah ache tauve.
Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.
47 Chuti chun Saul in Israel mite chunga lengvai anapon, muntinna amelmate jouse, Moab, Ammon chate, Edom, Zobah lengho chule Philistine mite toh akidouvin akiheina lam jousea gal ajoupeh in ahi.
Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side: against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned himself, he defeated them.
48 Aman thil lentah Amelek mite asat’in, ajouvin, chule amaho chom gam'a miho khutna konin Israel te ahuhdoh in ahi.
He did valiantly and struck the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of those who plundered them.
49 Tun Saul chapate chu Jonathan, Ishui chule Melchishua ahiuvin, chule achanu teni lah’a apeng masa’nu min Merab ahin, chule aneonu min Michal ahi.
Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malchishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal.
50 Chule Saul inneipi min Ahinoam ahin, Ahimaaz chanu ahi. Chule ajanel gal lamkaipa min chu Abner ahin, Saul pangahpa Ner chapa ahi.
The name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the captain of his army was Abner the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.
51 Chule Kish chu Saul pa ahin, chule Abner pa Ner chu Abiel chapa ahi.
Kish was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.
52 Chule Saul nikholai sungse chun Philistine mite toh kidouna chu anasa lheh jeng in ahi, Chuti chun Saul in mihatle mihangsan amupou pouva ahile amanin ama-a dingin akipui jeng in ahi.
There was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul; and when Saul saw any mighty man or any valiant man, he took him into his service.
