< Saam 49 >
1 Nangmih thlangkhqi boeih aw, ve ve za unawh taw; ve khawmdek awh ak awmkhqi boeih aw ngai lah uh,
You people of all ethnic groups, listen! You people all over the world,
2 Ak nem ak sang, boei khawdengkhqi boeih:
important people and unimportant people, rich people and poor people, everyone, [listen to what I am saying],
3 Kam kha ing cyihnaak awi kqawn kawmsaw; kak kawlung khuiawh kaw awi ing zaksimnaak ni pe kaw.
[because] what I am thinking is very sensible, and what I say will enable you to become wise!
4 Awicyih benna kang haa keng kawng nyng saw; tingtoeng ing kak awi rylh ce kqawncaih kawng nyng.
I think about [MTY] (proverbs/wise sayings), and while I play my harp, I explain what they mean.
5 Khawnghi amak leek a pha law awh kawtih kqih nawh, qaai ak kqawn thlakche khqi –
I am not [RHQ] afraid when I am in trouble/danger, when I am surrounded by my enemies,
6 a mimah a boeinaak ak ypnaak thlangkhqi ingkaw a boeinaak awh ak oek qu thlangkhqi ing anik chung khoep awh kawtih kak kqih kaw?
by evil men who trust that [things will always go well for them because] they are wealthy, and who boast about being very rich.
7 U ingawm thlang a hqingnaak am hul thai nawh anih aham Khawsa venawh hulnaak a phu awm am pe thai hy-
[They may be rich], but no one can pay money with the result that he would live forever! No one can pay God enough so that God will allow him [to continue] to live,
8 hqing thaawngnaak a phu ve tlo soeih nawh, ikawmyih a phu pek ingawm am khoek nawh-
because that cost is too great, and he will never be able to pay enough
9 thlang ing kumqui dy hqing nawh ama thu naak aham.
with the result that he will live forever and never [die and] be buried!
10 Thlakcyi a thih awm thlang boeih ing hu hy; thlak qaw ikaw amak sim thlang ing ang amyihna qeeng haih unawh thlang aham nani kawn ce ami ceh taak uh.
We see that foolish and stupid people die, but we see that wise people also die; they all leave their wealth, and others inherit it.
11 A mimah ingtaw a mimah ang ming ing qamkhqi ce ta lawt hlai uhy, ami phyikhqi ni kumqui dy ami awmnaak imkhqi na awm nawh, amak dyt qoe ami cadil dyna ami awmnaak hun na awm loet hy.
Those wise people once had [houses on] land that they owned, [but now] their graves are their homes forever, the place where they will stay for all time!
12 Thlanghqing ve, boei seiawm, am cak loet hy; qamsa ak qeeng ing ni a ming myih hy.
Even if people are great, that cannot prevent them from dying; all people die, the same as animals do.
13 Amah ingkaw amah ak yp qunaak khqi taw cemyihna awm kawm uh, anih ak awi cangna nawh anih a hu awh ak bat thlangkhqi awm cemyihna awm kawm uh.
That is what happens to those who foolishly trust [in what they have accomplished], to those who are delighted in [all] that they possess.
14 Tuu amyihna cekkhqi a dytnaak taw phyi mai ni, thihnaak ing a mingmih ce hqin khqi kaw. Thlak dyngkhqi ing cekkhqi ce mymcang hqit awh uk kawm usaw; cekkhqi a myi ce phyi awh ni a thu hly, a boeinaak im nu awhkawng hla hawh kaw. (Sheol )
They are certain to die just like sheep, when a shepherd leads them away to be slaughtered. [PRS, MET] In the morning righteous people will rule over them, and then [those wealthy people will die and] their bodies will quickly decay in their graves; they will be where dead people are, far from their homes. (Sheol )
15 Cehlai, Khawsa ing ka hqingnaak ve phyi khui awhkawng thaawng kawmsaw; amah a venna ni ceh pyi kaw. (Sheol )
But it is certain that God will rescue me so that I am not kept in the place of the dead. (Sheol )
16 Thlang ce khawhthem zen nawh, a ip khuiawh ik-oeih a taai law awh ce koeh kqih paqap;
[So], do not be dismayed when someone becomes rich and the houses where they live become more and more luxurious,
17 A thih awhkaw pynoet ca awm khyn vang am ti a he hy, a taak khawhthem ing am nuk hqut tikaw.
because when he dies, he will take nothing with him; his wealth will not go with him.
18 A hqing tloek awhtaw a zoseen soeih na ngai qu nawh – na boei tloek awhtaw thlang ing nim kyih hlai hy-
While [a rich person] is alive, he congratulates himself, and people praise him for being successful,

but he will [die], joining his ancestors, who will never see daylight again.
20 Zaaksimnaak taak kaana ak boei thlang taw qamsa ak qeeng ing ni a ning myih.
Even if someone is great, that cannot prevent him from dying; he will die, the same as animals do.
