1 Ka capa, na pyi ham qii khoeng nawh khawlawng thlang khanawh na kut nak thlak awhtaw,
My son, if thou art surety for thy friend, if thou hast struck thy hand with a stranger,
2 Nak awiawh namah awk nawh, nak awi kqawn ing namah ni pin nawh ni.
Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
3 Ka capa, na pyi a kutawh taang vit hynyng ti nang simqu awhtaw na loetnaak hamna vemyihna sai kawp ti, na pyi venna cet, nak kawlung ce ak kaina phaih nawh qeennaak thoeh kawp ti.
Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and plead with thy friend.
4 Koeh ip, namik koeh kuu sak qoe kawp ti.
Give not sleep to thy eyes, nor slumber to thy eyelids.
5 Sakzyym a kut awhkawng sakkhi a cen amyih ingkaw phak zym a kut awhkawng pha ang ding valh amyihna namah ce hul qu kawp ti.
Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Nang, thakdam pa, liing avena cet nawh, a khawsak ce toek nawh na cyih ta lah;
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Anih ing boei, ak sawikung, khawkkhan kung am ta na.
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Khawhqai awh a buh cun nawh cangmaa awh a ai sui hy.
Provideth her food in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 Aw, thakdam pa, iqyt dy nu na ih hly? Ityk awh nu na ihnaak awhkawng na thawh hly?
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Na ngaih awhtaw ip, ngam, kut boem nawh zaih,
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 Na ih hlanawh khawdengnaak ing khit cet amyihna ni pha kawm saw, awk voet ai vainaak ing ak tlung amyihna thoeng law kaw.
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
12 Thlakche ingkaw khawboeche thlang taw am khaaawh awioelhnaak ing ni a plam thaam hy.
A worthless person, a wicked man, walketh with a perverse mouth.
13 Amik ing mikhqih, a khaw ing awi kqawn a kut dawn ing pho sak hy.
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14 Ak kawlung am dyng nawh, seetnaak sai ham poeknaak ta poepa nawh, hqeehnaak sai poepa hy.
Perverseness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15 Cedawngawh ak poek kaana kyinaak ing thoeng law nawh bawtbetawh seetnaak ing pha kawm saw qoeinaak a huh voel kaana.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16 Khawsa ing a sawhnaak khquk awm nawh am tuih soeih khqeet awm hy.
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination to him:

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

A false witness that speaketh lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
20 Ka capa, na pa awipek ve ngai nawh, na nu cawngpyinaak ce koeh mang taak.
My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Na kawlungawh khoemnawh, na hawngawh aawi poe lah.
Bind them continually upon thy heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22 Na cehnaak hoeiawh ni hqui nawh, na ih hui awhawm ni doen kawm saw, na thawh lawawh ni tym pau pyi kaw.
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 Awipek taw maihchoei na awm nawh, cawngpyinaak taw vaangnak ni, toelthamnaak taw hqingnaak lampyi ni.
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of an adulteress woman.

Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 Pum ak zawi nu ak caming pa ing phaipi cunoet doeng ham nawh, samphaih nu ing hqinglung phutlo ce khoem thai hy.
For by means of an harlot a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
27 Thlang ing a hii a uih kaana mai ce pawm hly thai nawh nu?
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Thlang ing a khaw a uih kaana maihling leeh hly thai nawh nu?
Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29 A pyi a zuu venna cet nawh ak hei taw a uu pynoet awm kut thlak kaana am voei ti kaw.
So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
30 Ak phoencawih dipnaak ham ak quu thlang awm am loet ti kaw;
Men do not despise a thief, if he stealeth to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

But if he is found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

But whoever committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 Yytnaak kawlung taw pa khqi kawsonaak na awm nawh phu sui nynawh am loet ti kaw.
For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 A mikhuh awh tlansum pynoet awm am khyn kawm saw them khawzah pek ingawm kaw am zeel sak kaw.
He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
