And the high priest said, Are these things then so?
2 Cawh Stephen ing, “Koeinaakhqi ingkaw pakhqi aw, kak awi ve ngai lah uh! Ningmih a pa Abraham ce Haran awh a awm hlan Mesopotemia awh a awm awh, a venawh boeimang Khawsa ce dang pehy.
And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
3 Khawsa ing, ‘Na qam ingkaw nak thlangkhqi ce cehta nawhtaw kai ing ka ni pek hly qam na ce cet lah,’ tina hy.
and said to him, Go out of thy land and out of thy kindred, and come into the land which I will shew thee.
4 Cedawngawh anih ing Khaldea qam ce cehta nawh Haran awh ce awm hy. Apa a thih coengawh, tuh nami awmnaak qam awh ve Khawsa ing tyi hy.
Then going out of the land of the Chaldeans he dwelt in Charran, and thence, after his father died, he removed him into this land in which ye now dwell.
5 Khawsa ing anih ce qo amna pehy, khawlehnaak tat zani am pehy. Cawh Abraham ing ca kangna zani ta hlan hlai hy, amah ingkaw a cadilkhqi ing qam ve pang kawm uh, tinawh Khawsa ing awi tahy.
And he did not give him an inheritance in it, not even what his foot could stand on; and promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he had no child.
6 Khawsa ing vemyihna awi kqawn pehy: ‘Na cadilkhqi ing thlang a qam awh plam kawm usaw, thlang ing tamnaa na kum zali khuiawh hawna kaw.
And God spoke thus: His seed shall be a sojourner in a strange land, and they shall enslave them and evil entreat [them] four hundred years;
7 Cehlai a mingmih tamnaa na ak hawnaak qam ce kai ing toel kawng nyng saw, ce a qam khuiawh kawng ami loet coengawh ve a hun awh kai ve ni bawk kawm uh,’ tihy.
and the nation to which they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God; and after these things they shall come forth and serve me in this place.
8 Cekcoengawh Abraham ce chahhui qeetnaak paipi awikamnaak ce ana sai pyi hy. Abraham ing a ca Isaak ta nawh a thang coeng ak kqeet nyn awh chahhui qeet pehy. Cekcoengawh Isaak ing Jakob tahy, Jakob ing ca pahqa hlaihih tloek ce ana tahy.
And he gave to him [the] covenant of circumcision; and thus he begat Isaac and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.
9 Pakdamkhqi ing Joseph ce ana yt unawh, Izip qam na tamnaa na ana zawi uhy. Cehlai Khawsa ce anih a venawh awm nawh,
And the patriarchs, envying Joseph, sold him away into Egypt. And God was with him,
10 a kyinaak soepkep ak khuiawh kawng hul hy. Joseph a venawh cyihnaak pe nawh Izip sangpahrang Pharaoh a lungnaak ce huh sak hy; cedawngawh Pharaoh ing Izip qam ingkaw a ipkhui boeih ak khan awh ukkung na tahy.
and delivered him out of all his tribulations, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he appointed him chief over Egypt and all his house.
11 Cawh Izip qam pum ingkaw Kanaan qam pum awh khawseet khawkhanaak ce pha hy, kyinaak ak bau soeih a pha dawngawh, ni pakhqi ing ai am hu uhy.
But a famine came upon all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great distress, and our fathers found no food.
12 Izip qam awhtaw cang awm hy tice Jakob ing ang zaak awh, ni pakhqi ce Izip qam na lamma cyk awh tyi hy.
But Jacob, having heard of there being corn in Egypt, sent out our fathers first;
13 A hih voeinaak ami ceh awh, Joseph ing a koeinaakhqi venawh amah ce u nu, tice kqawn pek khqi hy, cawhkawng Pharaoh ing Joseph ipkhui kaw ce sim hy.
and the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren, and the family of Joseph became known to Pharaoh.
14 Cekcoengawh, Joseph ing a pa Jakob ingkaw a cakaw paqengkhqi boeih ce lawh sak nawh, thlang khqihkip coengawh pumha law uhy.
And Joseph sent and called down to him his father Jacob and all [his] kindred, seventy-five souls.
15 Cedawngawh Jakob ce Izip qam na cet nawh cawh anih ingkaw ni pakhqi ce thi uhy.
And Jacob went down into Egypt and died, he and our fathers,
16 Ami qawkkhqi ce Shqekem awh Hamor cakhqi venawh tangka ing ak thlaih phyi awh ce pup uhy.
and were carried over to Sychem and placed in the sepulchre which Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the [father] of Sychem.
17 Khawsa ing Abraham a venawh awi a taaknaak tym ce a soep law tawm awhtaw, Izip qam awh nik thlangkhqi ce ana pung ana tai uhy.
But as the time of promise drew near which God had promised to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,

until another king over Egypt arose who did not know Joseph.

He dealt subtilly with our race, and evil entreated the fathers, casting out their infants that they might not live.

In which time Moses was born, and was exceedingly lovely, who was nourished three months in the house of his father.

And when he was cast out, the daughter of Pharaoh took him up, and brought him up for herself [to be] for a son.

And Moses was instructed in all [the] wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds.

And when a period of forty years was fulfilled to him, it came into his heart to look upon his brethren, the sons of Israel;

and seeing a certain one wronged, he defended [him], and avenged him that was being oppressed, smiting the Egyptian.

For he thought that his brethren would understand that God by his hand was giving them deliverance. But they understood not.
26 A khawngawi nyn awh Israel phyn qawi thlang pakkhih anik kqak qu ce hu hy. Cekqawi ce qoep qu sak aham a ngaih a dawngawh, ‘Nangnih ve koei a naa nani nani awm hy; kawtih nanik kqah qu?’ tina qawi hy.
And on the morrow he shewed himself to them as they were contending, and compelled them to peace, saying, Ye are brethren, why do ye wrong one another?
27 Cehlai a pyi ak khan awh a khawboe ak se ing Mosi ce buk nawh, ‘U ing nu kainih ak khan awh ukkung ingkaw awidengkung na ani taak?
But he that was wronging his neighbour thrust him away, saying, Who established thee ruler and judge over us?
28 Zan awh Izip phyn na him amyihna kai awm ni him vang nati nawh aw? tina hy.
Dost thou wish to kill me as thou killedst the Egyptian yesterday?
29 Ce ak awi ce Mosi ing ang zaak awh, Midian qam na cen hy, cawh khin na awm khing nawh cakpa pakkhih tahy.
And Moses fled at this saying, and became a sojourner in the land of Madiam, where he begat two sons.
30 Kum phlikip a loet coengawh, Sinai Tlang a venawh kaw kqawng awh thingbup mai na ak kqawng awhkawng khan ceityih ing Mosi a venawh dang pehy.
And when forty years were fulfilled, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sinai, in a flame of fire of a bush.
31 Mosi ing a huh awh, ce a huh ce ang ngaihna kyi hy. Ak zoe awhkawng toek vang, tinawh a pan awh, Bawipa ak awi ce zahy;
And Moses seeing it wondered at the vision; and as he went up to consider it, there was a voice of [the] Lord,
32 ‘Kai taw na pakhqi a Khawsa, Abraham Khawsa, Isaak Khawsa ingkaw Jakob Khawsa na awm nyng,’ tina hy. Mosi ing kqih nawh am toek voel hy.
I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not consider [it].

And the Lord said to him, Loose the sandal of thy feet, for the place on which thou standest is holy ground.

I have surely seen the ill treatment of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groan, and have come down to take them out of it; and now, come, I will send thee to Egypt.
35 Vawhkaw Mosi zani cekkhqi ing, ‘U ing nu nang ukkung ingkaw awidengkung na ani taak?' tina unawh ana oelh uhy. Cehlai anih ce thingbup awh ak dang peek khan ceityih hawnaak ing Khawsa amah qoe ing a mingmih ukkung ingkaw hulkung aham tyi hy.
This Moses, whom they refused, saying, Who made thee ruler and judge? him did God send [to be] a ruler and deliverer with the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36 Anih ing Izip qamawh, Tuili Sen ingkaw qamkoh awh kum phlikip khui kawpoekkyi them sainaak ingkaw hatnaakkhqi ce huh sak khqi nawh amingmih ce sawikhqi hy.
He led them out, having wrought wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
37 Vawhkaw Mosi ing Israelkhqi venawh, 'Nangmih ak khui awhkawng kai amyihna ak awm tawngha ce Khawsa ing tyi law kaw,' ana tina hy.
This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel, A prophet shall God raise up to you out of your brethren like me [him shall ye hear].
38 Anih ce qamkoh awh thlang kqeng anglakawh, Sinai Tlang awh a venna awi ak kqawn peekkung khan ceityih ingqawi awm haih hy nih, ni pakhqi mi awm haih uhy; ningnih a venawh kqawn peek patoe aham awih hqing ce anih ing hu hy.
This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers; who received living oracles to give to us;
39 Cehlai ni pakhqi ing ak awi ce am ngai pe uhy. Anih ce oelh lat unawh amik kawlungkhqi ce Izip benna hawi sak uhy.
to whom our fathers would not be subject, but thrust [him] from them, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt,
40 Aaron a venawh, ningnih a haiawh ak cet aham khawsakhqi sai law. Izip qam awhkawng ningnih anik sawikung Mosi ve – ikawmyihna a awm hy voei amni sim voel hy! tina uhy.
saying to Aaron, Make us gods who shall go before us; for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what has happened to him.
41 Cawh vaitaw ca myihlip ce ana sai uhy. A mimah a kut sai a venawh bulnaak sai unawh awmhlynaak ce sai uhy.
And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
42 Cedawngawh Khawsa ing a mingmih ce hawi taak khqi nawh, khawnghi nakaw ik-oeihkhqi bawk aham cekkhqi ce pehy. Tawnghakhqi a cauk awh: “Aw Israelkhqi aw, kum phlikip khui qamkoh awh kai a venawh bulnaak ingkaw them peek aham nami haw law nawh nu?
But God turned and delivered them up to serve the host of heaven; as it is written in [the] book of the prophets, Have ye offered me victims and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
43 Nangmih ing bawk aham nami sai, Molek a bawkthang ingkaw na mimah a khawsa Rephah a aihchi ceni nami zoeksang hy. Cedawngawh Babilon a voel benna tamnaa na ni tyi khqi kawng nyng, tinawh ana qee ingqawi cah qu boek hy.
Yea, ye took up the tent of Moloch, and the star of [your] god Remphan, the forms which ye made to do homage to them; and I will transport you beyond Babylon.
44 Ni pakhqi ing qamkoh awh a mimah anglak lawawh simpyinaak hi im ce ana ta uhy. Cawhkaw hi im taw Mosi a venawh Khawsa ing huh nawh am huh amyihna sa uhy.
Our fathers had the tent of the testimony in the wilderness, as he that spoke to Moses commanded to make it according to the model which he had seen;
45 Khawsa ing Josua sawinaak ak caming a haiawh kaw qam khuiawh ak awmkhqi ce ahqek peek coengawh, hi im ce ni pakhqi ing khyn uhy. David khuk dyna ce hi im ce awm hyn hy.
which also our fathers, receiving from their predecessors, brought in with Joshua when they entered into possession of [the lands of] the nations, whom God drove out from [the] face of our fathers, until the days of David;
46 Ce David taw Khawsak a huhlynaak hunawh Jakob Khawsa a awmnaak hun sak peek aham ana thoeh hy.
who found favour before God, and asked to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob;
47 Cehlai Solomon ing ni im ce a sak peek hy.
but Solomon built him a house.
48 Cehlai sawsang soeihawh ak awm Khawsa ce thlanghqing a kut sai im awh am awm hy.
But the Most High dwells not in [places] made with hands; as says the prophet,
49 Khawk khan ce ka ngawihdoelh na awm nawh, khawmdek ve ka khaw tloengnaak na awm hy. Ikawmyih im nu nang ing na sak law kaw? tinawh Bawipa ing' tihy. Am awhtaw kang dymnaak hun ce han awh nu a awm kaw?
The heaven [is] my throne and the earth the footstool of my feet: what house will ye build me? saith [the] Lord, or where [is the] place of my rest?
50 Kai a kut ing ni vemyihkhqi boeih ve a sai ka ti my? tinawh tawngha ing ak kqawn amyihna.
has not my hand made all these things?
51 Nangmih thinsah, kawktal hakpangkhqi! Nami pakhqi amyihna awm boek uhyk ti: Ciim Myihla ce oelh quiqah uhyk ti!
O stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers, ye also.
52 Nami pakhqi ing a mami thekhanaak tawngha u nu a awm? Thlakdyng ak law hly anak kqawn oepchoehkhqi ce awm ana him uhy. Nangmih ing anih ce thlang a kut awh thak unawh him uhyk ti.
Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain those who announced beforehand concerning the coming of the Just One, of whom ye have now become deliverers up and murderers!
53 Khan ceityihkhqi ak caming anaa awi ce hu toengloeng hlai uhyk ti, am ngai sai laklaw uhyk ti,” tinak khqi hy.
who have received the law as ordained by [the] ministry of angels, and have not kept [it].
54 Ce ak awi ce a ming zaak awh amik kaw so nawh Stephen ce ami ha tah sih uhy.
And hearing these things they were cut to the heart, and gnashed their teeth against him.
55 Cehlai Stephen ce Ciim Myihla ing be nawh, khan ben ang mangawh Khawsa a boeimangnaak ingkaw Khawsa ak tang benawh ak dyi Jesu ce hu hy.
But being full of [the] Holy Spirit, having fixed his eyes on heaven, he saw [the] glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,
56 Stephen ing, “Toek lah, khawk khan awng qu nawh, Khawsa ak tang benawh ak dyi Thlanghqing Capa ce hu nyng,” tinak khqi hy.
and said, Lo, I behold the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.

And they cried out with a loud voice, and held their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;
58 Khaw voel na sawi unawh lung ing thlak uhy. Cawh dyihthing na ak awmkhqi ing cadawng Saul a khawkung awh a hibai khqi ce taak pe uhy.
and having cast [him] out of the city, they stoned [him]. And the witnesses laid aside their clothes at the feet of a young man called Saul.
59 Anih ce lung ing amik thlak awh, “Bawipa Jesu, kang myihla ve do lah,” tinawh cykcah hy.
And they stoned Stephen, praying, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60 Cekcoengawh koep nawh, “Bawipa vekkhqi a thawlhnaak ve koeh thung kawp ti,” tinawh khy hy. Ve ak awi ak kqawn coengawh ip pahoei hy.
And kneeling down, he cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And having said this, he fell asleep.
