< Olcueih 6 >

My son, if thou art surety for thy friend, [if] thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
Give not sleep to thy eyes, nor slumber to thy eyelids.
5 Kut dongkah kirhang bangla sayuep kut dongkah vaa bangla namah huul uh laeh.
Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand [of the hunter], and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Kolhnaw aw lunghi taengla cet lah, anih kah khosing ke hmu lamtah cueih van lah.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 A taengah rhalboei khaw, rhoiboei khaw, aka taemrhai ham khaw om mai pawh.
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Khohal ah a buh te a soepsoei tih cangah ah a caak te a yoep.
Provideth her provisions in the summer, [and] gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 Kolhnaw aw me hil nim na yalh vetih na ih lamloh me vaengah nim na thoh ve?
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Bet ih, bet ngam, kut poem bet neh na yalh.
[Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 Te vaengah na khodaeng te aka cet paitai bangla, na tloelnah loh photling aka bai hlang bangla ha pawk ni.
So shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth, and thy want as an armed man.
12 Aka muen hlang neh boethae hlang tah a ka dongkah olhmaang nen ni a pongpa.
A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13 A mik neh a mikhip, a kho neh a thui, a kutdawn neh a thuinuet.
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14 A lungbuei kah a calaak neh a tuetang takuem ah boethae bueng a paem tih, tingtoehnah neh hohmuhnah a khuen.
Frowardness [is] in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15 Te dongah amah kah rhainah loh buengrhuet a thoeng thil vetih hoeihnah om kolla khaem pahoi ni.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16 He parhuk he BOEIPA loh a thinah tih a hinglu dongah tueilaehkoi khuikah tueilaehkoi parhih tah.
These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yes, seven [are] an abomination to him:
17 A honghi lai aka ludoeng kah a mik, ommongsitoe kah thii aka long sak kah a kut,
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.
18 Boethae kopoek aka paem lungbuei, boethae dongla aka yong paitok kho,
A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 A hong kah laipai loh laithae ol a sat tih pacaboeina lakli ah tingtoehnah la a khuen.
A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Na lungbuei ah rhawp hlaengtang lamtah na rhawn ah rhawp laikoeinah lah.
Bind them continually upon thy heart, [and] tie them about thy neck.
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and [when] thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 Olpaek tah hmaithoi ni, olkhueng khaw vangnah ni, thuituennah dongkah toelthamnah khaw hingnah longpuei ni.
For the commandment [is] a lamp; and the law [is] light; and reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life:
24 Huta thae taeng lamkah neh kholong nu ol hnal lamloh nang aka ngaithuen ham ni.
To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25 A sakthen te na thinko nen khaw nai boeh, a mikkhu neh nang te n'hloih boel saeh.
Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 Pumyoi nu tah buh hluem ham ni, tedae hlang yuu loh hinglu phutlo khaw a hoem.
For by means of a lewd woman [a man is brought] to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
27 Hlang kah a rhang dongah hmai a poep lalah a himbai te hoeh mahpawt a?
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Hlang pakhat te hmai-alh dongah a caeh lalah a kho te duih mahpawt a?
Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29 A hui kah yuu te aka kun thil tih aka ben tah pakhat khaw hmil tangloeng mahpawh.
So he that goeth in to his neighbor's wife; whoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
30 A hinglu kah a lamlum dip sak hamla a huen atah hlanghuen te hlang loh hnoelrhoeng mahpawt a?
[Men] do not despise a thief, if he stealeth to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
31 A hmuh uh atah a pueh parhih la a sah saeh lamtah a im kah a boei a rhaeng te boeih a phai saeh.
But [if] he is found, he shall restore seven-fold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
32 Lungbuei aka talh huta tah samphaih, a hinglu aka phae long ni te te a saii.
[But] whoever committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he [that] doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
33 Tlohtat neh yah a dong vetih anih kokhahnah te hmata mahpawh.
A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 Phulohnah khohnin ah a va kah kosi neh thatlainah dongah lungma ti mahpawh.
For jealousy [is] the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 A mikhmuh kah tlansum pakhat khaw khuen pah pawt vetih kapbaih yet cakhaw huem pah mahpawh.
He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
