< Matthai 6 >
Take heed that you perform not your religious duties before men, in order to be observed by them; otherwise you will obtain no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
2 Te dongah doedannah na khueh vaengah, hlang loh a thangpom ham hlangthai palat rhoek lohtunim neh imhlai laklo ah a saii bangla na hmaiah ueng boeh. Nangmih taengah rhep kan thui, a thapang vik a bawt uh coeng.
When, therefore, you give alms, do not proclaim it by sound of trumpet, as the hypocrites do, in the assemblies and in the streets, that they may be extolled by men. Indeed, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But you, when you give alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does;
that your alms may be in secret; and your Father, to whom nothing is secret, will himself recompense you.
Hlang kah a hmuh ah thangthui ham tunim neh toltung kah a kil ah a pai te a lungnah uh. Nangmih taengah rhep kan thui, a thapang te vik a bawt uh coeng.
And when you pray, be not like the hypocrites, who affect to pray standing in the assemblies, and at the corners of the streets, that men may observe them. Indeed, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But you, when you would pray, retire to your closet; and having shut the door, pray to your Father; and your Father, to whom, though he is unseen himself, nothing is secret, will recompense you.
7 Thangthui vaengah namtom rhoek bangla tlawk boeh. A caitawtnah te a hnatun ni tila a poek uh.
And in prayer, use not a multiplicity of words as the Pagans do, who think that using many words will gain them acceptance.
Imitate them not; for your Father knows what things you want, before you ask him.
9 Te dongah nangmih tah he tlamhe thangthui uh. Vaan kah kaimih napa namah ming tah ciim rhoe pai.
Thus, therefore, pray you: Our Father, who art in heaven, thy name be hallowed;
10 Na ram tah ha pai saeh. Na kongaih tah vaan kah bangla diklai ah khaw soep saeh.
thy Reign come; thy will be done upon earth, as it is in heaven;
11 Khohnin rhamhnin kah ham kaimih kah buh he tihnin ah kaimih m'pae lah.
give us to-day our daily bread;
12 Kaimih sokah laikung rhoek te ka hlah uh bangla, kaimih kah laiba dongah kaimih n'hlah lah.
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
13 Cuekhalhnah khuila kaimih ng'khuen boel lamtah, a thae khui lamkah loh kaimih n'hlawt lah.
and lead us not into temptation, but preserve us from evil.
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;
but if you forgive not others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
A yaeh uh te hlang taengah phoe sak ham a maelhmai te a buenglueng uh. Nangmih taengah rhep kan thui, a thapang te vik a bawt uh coeng.
Moreover, when you fast, look not dismal, as the hypocrites, who disfigure their faces, that men may observe that they fast. Indeed, I say to you, they have their reward.
But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;
18 N'yaeh he hlang taengah pawt tih a huep ah aka om na Pa taengah lat tueng sak. Te daengah ni a huep ah aka hmu na Pa loh nang n'thuung eh.
that your fasting may not appear to men, but to your Father; and your Father, to whom, though he is unseen himself, nothing is secret, will recompense you.
19 Diklai hmanah namamih ham khohrhang khoem uh boeh. Te ah te keet neh thi-aek loh a caak, hlanghuen loh a muk tih a huen.
Amass not for yourselves treasure upon the earth, where moths and rust may consume it, or thieves breaking in may steal it.
20 Vaan ah na khohrhang te khoem uh. Te ah te keet om pawh thi-aek long khaw a caak moenih, hlanghuen long khaw muk pawt tih huen pawh.
But provide for yourselves treasure in heaven, where are neither moths nor rust to consume it, nor thieves to break in and steal it.
21 Na khohrhang a om nah ah ni na thinko khaw a om eh.
For where your treasure is, your heart will also be.
22 Mik he pum kah hmaiim la om.
The eye is the lamp of the body. If, therefore, your eye be sound, your whole body will be enlightened;
23 Tedae na mik te a thae la aom atah na pum tom ah a hmuep la om ni. Te dongah nang kah vangnah te yinnah la a poeh atah te yinnah te nah coeng.
but if your eye be distempered, your whole body will be dark. And if even the light which is in you be darkness, how great will the darkness be!
A man can not serve two masters; for either he will hate one, and love the other; or at least he will attend to one, and neglect the other. You cannot serve God and Mammon.
Hinglu tah buh lakah, pum he khaw himbai lakah olpuei la om pawt nim?
Therefore I charge you, be not anxious about your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor about your body, what you shall wear. Is not life a greater gift than food; and the body more than raiment?
26 Vaan kah vaa rhoek ke so uh lah. Amih loh tuh uh pawt tih at uh pawh, khai ah khaw a sang uh moenih.
Observe the fowls of heaven. They neither sow nor reap. They have no storehouse; but your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you much more valuable than they?
27 Te dongah nangmih khuikah unim aka mawn tih a hinglung te dong khat ham a tom thai?
Besides, which of you can, by his anxiety, prolong his life one hour?
Lohma kah rhaipai ke metla a rhoeng khaw poek lah. Thakthae uh pawh, cunghmui khaw hnuk uh pawh.
And why are you anxious about raiment? Mark the lilies of the field. How do they grow? They toil not: they spin not.
29 Tedae nangmih taengah kan thui, Solomon pataeng a thangpomnah boeih neh he kah rhaipai pakhat bangla a bai sak moenih.
Yet I affirm that even Solomon in all his glory, was not equally adorned with one of these.
30 Tihnin ah om tih thangvuen ah hmailing dongla phum hamkoi lohma kah khopol pataeng khaw Pathen loh a phuekhlaak tangloeng atah uepvawt rhoek aw nangmih te muep n'thoeihcam ngai mahpawt nim?
If, then, God so array the herbage, which to-day is in the field, and to-morrow will be cast into the oven, will he not much more array you, O you distrustful!
31 Te dongah, banim ka caak uh vetih banim ka ok uh ve? Banim ka bai uh ve? ti nen khaw mawn uh boeh.
Therefore say not anxiously, (as the heathens do, ) What shall we eat; or what shall we drink; or with what shall we be clothed?
32 He rhoek boeih he namtom rhoek long ni a vawtthaih uh. Vaan kah na pa loh na kuek uh boeih te a ming.
For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33 Tedae Pathen kah ram neh a duengnah te lamhma la toem uh lah. Te daengah ni he rhoek boeih he nangmih taengah han thap eh.
But seek first the kingdom of God and the righteousness required by him; and all these things shall be superadded to you.
34 Te dongah thangvuen ham mawn uh boeh. Thangvuen amah te mawn bitni. Hnin at kah a phayoenah he amah ah rhoeh coeng.
Be not then anxious about the morrow: the morrow will be anxious about itself. Sufficient for every day is its own trouble.
