< Matthai 23 >

1 Te phoeiah Jesuh loh hlangping rhoek neh a hnukbang rhoek te a voek tih,
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds, and to his disciples,
2 “Cadaek rhoek neh Pharisee rhoek tah Moses kah ngoltlang dongah ngol uh.
saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have sat down in the chair of Moses.
3 Te dongah nangmih taengah a thui uh sarhui te boeih vai uh lamtah tuem uh. Tedae amih kah khoboe bangla saii uh boeh, a thui uh tih a vai uh haew moenih.
Therefore, all things whatsoever that they shall say to you, observe and do. Yet truly, do not choose to act according to their works. For they say, but they do not do.
4 Te phoeiah hno te a rhih la a boep uh tih phueihtloel la hlang kah laengpang dongah a tloeng uh dae amamih tah a kutdawn nen khaw tat sak ham ngaih uh pawh.
For they bind up heavy and unbearable burdens, and they impose them on men’s shoulders. But they are not willing to move them with even a finger of their own.
5 A khoboe te khaw hlang kah a hmuh la boeih a saii uh. A cacimbu te a kaa uh tih salaw te oep uh.
Truly, they do all their works so that they may be seen by men. For they enlarge their phylacteries and glorify their hems.
6 Buhkung ah hmuensang, tunim ah ngolhmuen then neh,
And they love the first places at feasts, and the first chairs in the synagogues,
7 Hnoyoih hmuen kah toidalnah uh neh hlang loh Rhabbi la a khue te a lungnah uh.
and greetings in the marketplace, and to be called Master by men.
8 Tedae nangmih tah Rhabbi la n'khue boel saeh.
But you must not be called Master. For One is your Master, and you are all brothers.
And do not choose to call anyone on earth your father. For One is your Father, who is in heaven.
10 Mawtkung la n'khue uh boel saeh, Khrih tah nangmih mawtkung la rhenten om coeng.
Neither should you be called teachers. For One is your Teacher, the Christ.
Whoever is greater among you shall be your minister.
12 Tedae amah aka pomsang te tah tlarhoel vetih amah aka tlarhoel te tah a pomsang ni.
But whoever has exalted himself, shall be humbled. And whoever has humbled himself, shall be exalted.
So then: Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you close the kingdom of heaven before men. For you yourselves do not enter, and those who are entering, you would not permit to enter.
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you consume the houses of widows, praying long prayers. Because of this, you shall receive the greater judgment.
15 Anunae nangmih cadaek rhoek neh Pharisee hlangthai palat rhoek, pakhat te poehlip sak ham tuili neh rhamrhae na hil uh. Tedae a om tanglai vaengah tah anih te namamih laklah rhaepnit la hell kah a ca la na poeh sak uh. (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and by land, in order to make one convert. And when he has been converted, you make him twice the son of Hell that you are yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 Anunae nangmih mawtkung mikdael rhoek, 'Bawkim neh aka toemngam te tah a toemngam phu om pawh, tedae bawkim kah sui neh a toemngam te man a kuek nah mako,’ aka ti rhoek
Woe to you, blind guides, who say: ‘Whoever will have sworn by the temple, it is nothing. But whoever will have sworn by the gold of the temple is obligated.’
17 Mikdael neh hlang ang rhoek, melae tanglue la aka om? Sui a? Sui aka ciim bawkim a?
You are foolish and blind! For which is greater: the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
And you say: ‘Whoever will have sworn by the altar, it is nothing. But whoever will have sworn by the gift that is on the altar is obligated.’
19 Mikdael rhoek aw melae a tanglue? Kutdoe a? Kutdoe aka ciim hmueihtuk a?
How blind you are! For which is greater: the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20 Te dongah hmueihtuk neh aka toemngam tah hmueihtuk neh a sokah boeih boeih neh a toemngam coeng.
Therefore, whoever swears by the altar, swears by it, and by all that is on it.
21 Te phoeiah Bawkim neh aka toemngam tah Bawkim neh a tolvael te a toemngam coeng.
And whoever will have sworn by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it.
22 Te phoeiah vaan neh aka toemngam tah Pathen kah ngolkhoel neh te dongah aka ngol neh a toemngam coeng.
And whoever swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits upon it.
Tedae he rhoek he saii ham a kuek atah te rhoek khaw hlahpham boeh.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you collect tithes on mint and dill and cumin, but you have abandoned the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, while not omitting the others.
24 Mawtkung mikdael rhoek, pildik pataeng na soih u dae kalauk na dolh uh.
You blind guides, straining out a gnat, while swallowing a camel!
25 Anunae nangmih cadaek rhoek neh Pharisee hlangthai palat rhoek, boengloeng neh baelphaih te a hmanhu ah na silh uh dae a khuikah halhkanah dongah khoeihveetnah neh na bae uh.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you clean what is outside the cup and the dish, but on the inside you are full of avarice and impurity.
26 Pharisee mikdael rhoek boengloeng kah a khui te lamhma la cilpoe dae. Te daengah ni poeng ben khaw a caih la a om eh.
You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the dish, and then what is outside becomes clean.
27 Anunae nangmih cadaek rhoek neh Pharisee hlangthai palat rhoek, hlan a bok neh na loo uh. Te te ahmanhu ah sawtthen la tueng dae aka duek kah a rhuh neh rhongingnah boeih neh bae.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed sepulchers, which outwardly appear brilliant to men, yet truly, inside, they are filled with the bones of the dead and with all filth.
28 Nangmih khaw a hmanhu ah tah hlang dueng la na phoe uh tangloeng ngawn, tedae a khuiah thailatnah neh olaeknah a bae la om.
So also, you certainly appear to men outwardly to be just. But inwardly you are filled with hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Anunae nangmih cadaek rhoek neh Pharisee hlangthai palat rhoek, tonghma rhoek kah hlan te na saii uh tih hlang dueng rhoek kah phuel te na thoeihcam uh.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites, who build the sepulchers of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the just.
30 Te phoeiah, 'A pa rhoek kah a tue vaengah ng'om uh koinih tonghma rhoek kah a thii dongah amih kah pueipo la ng'om pawt sue,’ na ti uh.
And then you say, ‘If we had been there in the days of our fathers, we would not have joined with them in the blood of the prophets.’
And so you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets.
Complete, then, the measure of your fathers.
33 Rhul rhoek, rhulthae cadil rhoek, laitloeknah hell lamkah metlam na rhaelrham uh eh? (Geenna g1067)
You serpents, you brood of vipers! How will you escape from the judgment of Hell? (Geenna g1067)
34 He dongah ni kai loh tonghma rhoek, hlangcueih rhoek neh cadaek rhoek te nangmih taengah kan tueih he.
For this reason, behold, I send to you prophets and wise men, and scribes. And some of these you will put to death and crucify; and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35 Te dongah hlang dueng Abel kah thii lamloh bawkim neh hmueihtuk lakloah na ngawn uh Berikhiah kah capa Zekhriah kah thii duela, diklai hmanah hlang dueng rhoek kah thii a hawk te nangmih soah boeih thoeng.
so that upon you may fall all the blood of the just, which has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just, even to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.
36 Nangmih taengah rhep kan thui, he rhoek tah tahae kah cadil soah boeih thoeng ni.
Amen I say to you, all these things shall fall upon this generation.
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, tonghma rhoek aka ngawn neh a taengla a tueih rhoek te aka dae, ainu loh aicahui ke a phae hmuiah a hluembael vaengkah a longim bangla na ca rhoek te hluembael ham ka ngaih taitu dae na ngaih uh pawh.
Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and stone those who have been sent to you. How often I have wanted to gather your children together, in the way that a hen gathers her young under her wings. But you were not willing!
38 Na im tah namamih taengah khosoek la a hlahpham coeng he.
Behold, your house shall be abandoned to you, having been deserted.
39 Te dongah nangmih taengah kan thui, 'Boeipa ming neh aka pawk tah a yoethen pai, 'tila na ti uh hlan atah tahae lamkah loh kai muei na hmuh uh loeng loeng mahpawh,” a ti nah.
For I say to you, you shall not see me again, until you say: ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
