About that time, Cesar Augustus issued an edict, that all the inhabitants of the empire should be registered.
2 Te hlangmi soepnah tah Syria Kurenius kah a taem vaengah lamhmacuek la om.
(This first register took effect, when Cyrenius was president of Syria.)
3 Te dongah hlang boeih loh minghlum ham amah kho la rhip cet uh.
When all went to be registered, every one of his own city,
4 Te vaengah Joseph khaw Galilee, Nazareth kho lamloh Judea kah Bethlehem la a khue David khopuei la cet. Anih te David imkhui kah nurhui pahrhui la om.
Joseph also went from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, to a city of David in Judea, called Bethlehem, (for he was of the house and lineage of David, )
5 Minghlum ham vaengah amah ham a bae Mary te pumrhih la om pueng.
to be registered, with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was pregnant.
6 A om rhoi kuelhuelh ah a caom tue loh a kae.
While they were there, the time came, that she should be delivered.
7 Tedae a capa camingomthang te a cun vaengah tah impahnah ah hmuen a om pawt dongah a yol tih khongduk dongah a soei.
And she brought forth her first born son, and swathed him, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the house allotted to strangers.
8 Te vaengah amah tekah pingpang ah tudawn rhoek om uh. A tuping te khoyin ah thongimla a khoem uh tih a rhaeh thiluh.
Now there were shepherds in the fields in that country, who tended their flocks by turns through the night watches.
9 Te vaengah Boeipa kah puencawn tah amih taengah a phoe pah. Amih te Boeipa kah thangpomnah loh a tue dongah rhihnah neh bahoeng a rhih uh.
On a sudden, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and a divine glory encompassed them with light, and they were frightened exceedingly.
10 Tedae amih te puencawn loh, “Rhih uh boeh, pilnam boeih taengah aka om ham omngaihnah tanglue te nangmih taengah olthangthen kan thui he.
But the angel said to them, Fear not; for lo! I bring you good tidings, which shall prove matter of great joy to all the people;
11 Tihnin ah nangmih ham khangkung om coeng. Anih tah David khopuei ah Khrih Boeipa la om coeng.
because to-day is born to you in the city of David, a Saviour, who is the Lord Messiah.
12 Nangmih ham miknoek pakhat om vetih, cahni te a yol phoeiah kongduk dongah a yalh te na hmuh uh ni,” a ti nah.
And by this you shall know him; you shall find a babe in swaddling bands, lying in a manger.
13 Te vaengah puencawn te vaan caempuei rhaengpuei loh tarha a om puei tih Pathen te a thangthen uh.
Instantly the angel was attended by a multitude of the heavenly host, who praised God, saying,
14 Te vaengah, “Pathen te a sangkoek ah thangpomnah om saeh, diklai ah rhoepnah neh hlang rhoek soah a kolonah om saeh,” a ti uh.
Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace, and good will amongst men!
15 A om van bangla puencawn rhoek tah amih taeng lamloh vaan la cet uh. Tudawn rhoek loh khat neh khat taengah, “Bethlehem la cet pawn sih lamtah olthang aka thoeng he so uh sih. Te tah Boeipa long ni mamih ham a phoe sak,” a ti uh.
And when the angels returned to heaven, having left the shepherds, these said to one another, Let us go to Bethlehem, and see this which has happened, of which the Lord has informed us.
16 Te phoeiah, tatloe la cet uh tih Mary, Joseph neh kongduk dong ah aka yalh cahni te a hmuh uh.
And hastening thither, they found Mary and Joseph with the babe, who lay in the manger.
17 A hmuh uh vaengah, te camoe kawng neh amih taengah a thui olka te a doek uh.
When they saw this, they published what had been imparted to them, concerning this child.
18 Amih taengah tudawn rhoek loh a thui te aka ya rhoek boeih tah a ngaihmang uh.
And all who heard it, wondered at the things told them by the shepherds.
19 Tedae Mary loh tekah olka te boeih a kuem tih a thinko ah a khing a mong.
But Mary let none of these things escape unobserved, weighing every circumstance within herself.
20 Tudawn rhoek tah amih taengah a thui pah bangla boeih a hmuh uh. A yaak uh dongah te Pathen a thangpom uh tih a thangthen uh phoeiah bal uh.
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all that they had heard and seen, agreeably to what had been declared to them.
21 Hnin rhet cup coeng tih, camoe te yahvin a rhet vaengah tah a ming te Jesuh a sui. Te tah bung khuikah a yom hlanah puencawn kah a sui pah coeng ni.
On the eighth day, when the child was circumcised, they called him Jesus, the angel having given him that name, before his mother conceived him.
22 Moses kah olkhueng bangla amih kah imcim khohnin te a pha vaengah Jesuh te Boeipa taengah nawn ham Jerusalem la a khuen rhoi.
And when the time of their purification was expired, they carried him to Jerusalem, as the law of Moses appoints, to present him to the Lord;
23 Boeipa kah olkhueng dongah a daek bangla bung aka va tongpa boeih tah Boeipa ham cimcaih la a khue ni.
(as it is written in the law of God, "Every male, who is the first born of his mother, is consecrated to the Lord:")
24 Te dongah Boeipa kah olkhueng dongah, “Vahu phiknit mai khaw, vahui ca panit mai khaw,” a ti bangla hmueih te a paek rhoi.
and to offer the sacrifices enjoined in the law, a pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.
25 Te vaengah hlang pakhat, a ming ah Simeon te Jerusalem ah khoem om. Tekah hlang tah dueng tih cuep. Te dongah Israel kah thaphohnah te a lamtawn tih Mueihla Cim loh anih a om thil.
Now there was at Jerusalem a man named Simeon, a just and religious man, who expected the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him,
26 Mueihla Cim loh anih taengah, “Boeipa kah Khrih te a hmuh hlan atah dueknah na hmu mahpawh, “tila a mangthui tangtae te om.
and had revealed to him, that he should not dies, until he had seen the Lord's Messiah.
27 Simeon te mueihla loh bawkim khuila a pawk puei. Te vaengah camoe Jesuh amah te olkhueng kah khosing la saii ham a manu pana loh a khuen.
This man came, guided by the Spirit, into the temple. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what the law required,

he took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Te vaengah, “Boeikung na sal he na olthui bangla ngaimongnah neh nan hlah coeng.
Now, Lord, thou dost in peace dismiss thy servant, according to thy word;

for my eyes have seen the Saviour,

whom thou hast provided in the sight of all the world,
32 Vangnah he namtom a pumphoenah la, thangpomnah te na pilnam Israel hamla om coeng,” a ti.
a luminary to enlighten the nations, and to be the glory of Israel thy people.
33 Camoe kawng a thui soah a napa neh a manu tah a ngaihmang rhoi.
And Joseph, and the mother of Jesus heard, with admiration, the things spoken concerning him.
34 Simeon loh amih te yoethen a paek tih a manu Mary taeng ah, “Anih he Israel khuiah a yet kah a bungnah neh thohkoepnah ham neh boekoek miknoek la a khueh coeng he.
And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, This child is destined for the fall and the rise of many in Israel, to serve as a mark for contradiction;
35 Namah neh namah khaw na hinglu thunglang loh n'rhaih ni. Te daengah ni thinko kah poeknah te poeng a pumphoe eh?,” a ti nah.
(yes, you own soul shall be pierced as with a javelin; ) that the thoughts of many hearts may be disclosed.
36 Te vaengah Asher koca kah Phanuel canu tonghmanu Anna om tih a kum khaw muep patong coeng. Anih he a hula lamloh a va neh kum rhih bueng hing rhoi.
There was also a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, in advanced age, who had lived seven years with a husband, whom she married when a virgin;
37 Te phoeiah kum sawmrhet kum li hil nuhmai la om. Anih tah bawkim te hlah tlaih kolla khoyin khothaih yaehnah neh, rhenbihnah neh tho a thueng.
and being now a widow about eighty-four years, departed not from the temple, but served God in prayer and fasting night and day;
38 Pathen uem tue a pai kuelhuelh vaengah Jerusalem kah tlannah aka lamtawn rhoek boeih ham camoe kawng te a thui pah.
she also coming in at that instant, gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke concerning Jesus to all those in Jerusalem who expected redemption.
39 Boeipa kah olkhueng bangla boeih a soep vaengah te amah kho Galilee, Nazareth la bal rhoi.
After they had performed everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40 Camoe tah a rhoeng vaengah rhaang tih cueihnah neh bae. Pathen kah lungvatnah long khaw a om thil.
And the child grew, and acquired strength of mind, being filled with wisdom, and adorned with a divine gracefulness.
41 Kum takuem yoom khotue ah a manu napa te Jerusalem la cet.
Now, the parents of Jesus went yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.
42 Kum hlainit a lo vaengah khotue kah khosing bangla amih te cet uh.
And when he was twelve years old, they having gone thither, according to the usage of the festival, and remained the customary time;
43 Khohnin te cup tih a a bal uh vaengah cadong Jesuh tah Jerusalem ah uelh tih a manu napa loh ming pawh.
being on their return, the child Jesus staid behind in Jerusalem, and neither Joseph nor his mother knew it.
44 Jesuh te lambong khuiah om tila a poek uh dae hnin at long caeh phoeiah tah a huiko neh a hmat taengah a tlap rhoi.
They supposing him to be in the company, went a day's journey, and then sought him among their relations and acquaintances;
45 A hmuh rhoi pawt dongah anih tlap ham Jerusalem la mael rhoi.
but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 A thum khohnin a pha phoeiah Jesuh te bawkim khuikah saya rhoek kah a laklung ah ana ngol, amih taengah a hnatun tih amih ana dawt te a hmuh rhoi.
And after three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 Anih kah yakmingnah neh ollannah boeih te aka ya rhoek boeih tah limlum uh.
And all who heard him, were amazed at his understanding and answers,
48 Jesuh te a hmuh rhoi vaengah let rhoi tih a manu loh, “Ka capa, balae tih kaimih rhoi tlam he nang khueh? Na pa neh kai loh nang kan toem rhoi tih n'yuek sut coeng he,” a ti nah.
and they beheld him with astonishment. And his mother said to him, Son, why have you treated us thus? Behold, your father and I have sought you with sorrow.
49 Te vaengah amih rhoi te, “Balae kai nan toem rhoi? A pa im ah ka om ham a kuek te na ming rhoi mahnim?” a ti nah.
He answered, Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be in the courts of my Father?
50 Tedae amih rhoi taengah a thui pah olka te amih rhoi loh a hmuhming rhoi moenih.
But they did not comprehend his answer.
51 Te phoeiah amih rhoi taengah cet tih Nazareth la pawk uh. A taengah boengai la om tih olka te a manu loh a thinko ah boeih a khoem.
And he returned with them to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her memory.
52 Jesuh tah cueihnah neh pumrho ah rhoeng tih Pathen neh hlang taengah lungvatnah a dang.
And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and stature, and in power with God and man.
