And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem to his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Which [is] better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, [which are] seventy persons, should reign over you, or that one should reign over you? remember also that I [am] your bone and your flesh.
3 Te olka boeih te Shekhem boei rhoek boeih kah hna dongah tah, “Anih kah a nupu pai ni,” a ti uh tih, “Anih te mah manuca ni,” a ti uh dongah Abimelek taengla a lungbuei boeih hooi uh.
And his mother's brethren spoke of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He [is] our brother.
4 Te dongah Baalberith im lamkah tangka sawmrhih te anih a paek uh. Te nen te Abimelek loh hlang hoeng rhoek neh aka soetae rhoek te a paang tih a hnukah bang uh.
And they gave him seventy [pieces] of silver out of the house of Baal-berith, with which Abimelech hired vain and light persons, who followed him.

And he went to his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, [being] seventy persons, upon one stone; notwithstanding, yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.
6 Shekhem boei rhoek boeih neh Bethmillo boeih loh a tingtun uh phoeiah cet uh tih Abimelek te Shekhem kah aka pai thingnu kaepah manghai la a manghai sakuh.
And all the men of Shechem assembled, and all the house of Millo, and went and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that [was] in Shechem.
7 Tedae Jotham taengla a puen pa uh vaengah tah Gerizim tlang som la luei tih pai. Te phoeiah a ol a huel tih a pang doela, “Shekhem boei rhoek ka ol he hnatun uh lah te daengah ni Pathen loh nangmih ol te a hnatun eh.
And when they told [it] to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice and cried, and said to them, Hearken to me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken to you.
8 Thing rhoek loh a manghai situi koelh ham cet cet uh tih olive taengah, 'Kaimih soah manghai khaw manghai mai laeh he,’ a ti nauh.
The trees went forth [on a time] to anoint a king over them; and they said to the olive-tree, Reign thou over us.
9 Tedae amih te olive loh, “Pathen neh hlang aka thangpom ka maehhloi he ka toeng mai vetih thing rhoek soah vikvuek ham ka cet aya?' a ti nah.
But the olive-tree said to them, Should I leave my fatness, with which by me they honor God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
10 Thing rhoek loh thaibu taengah khaw, “Namah halo lamtah kaimih soah manghai mai laeh,” a ti nauh.
And the trees said to the fig-tree, Come thou, [and] reign over us.
11 Tedae amih te thaibu loh, “Ka didip neh ka thaih then he ka toeng mai vetih thing rhoek soah vikvuek ham ka cet aya? ' a ti nah.
But the fig-tree said to them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
12 Misur taengah khaw thing rhoek loh, “Nang halo lamtah kaimih soah manghai khaw manghai mai laeh,’ a ti nauh.
Then said the trees to the vine, Come thou, [and] reign over us.
13 Tedae amih te misur loh, 'Pathen neh hlang ko aka hoe sak ka misur thai te ka toeng mai vetih thing rhoek soah vikvuek ham ka cet aya?,’ a ti nah.
And the vine said to them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
14 Thing rhoek boeih long te tangkul taengla, 'Nang halo lamtah kaimih soah manghai mai saw,’ a ti nauh.
Then said all the trees to the bramble, Come thou, [and] reign over us.
15 Tangkul long tah thing rhoek taengah, 'Na oltak nen ni nangmih sokah manghai la kai n'koelh uh van atah, halo uh lamtah ka hlipkhup ah ying uh. Te pawt koinih tangkul puep lamkah hmai puek vetih Lebanon lamphai khaw a hlawp ni,” a ti nah.
And the bramble said to the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, [then] come [and] put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
16 Tahae ah oltak neh a khangmai la na saii uh tih Abimelek te na manghai sak uh coeng atah Jerubbaal ham neh a imkhui ham hnothen nim na saii uh tih a taengah a kut neh aka tiing lam nim na saii uh.
Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him according to the deserving of his hands:
17 A pa loh nangmih ham a vathoh tih a hmai ah a hinglu a voeih dongah nangmih te Midian kut lamloh n'huul.
(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you from the hand of Midian:

And ye have risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, seventy persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maid-servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he [is] your brother: )
19 Tihnin Jerubbaal taeng neh a cako taengah oltak neh a khangmai la na saii uh coeng atah Abimelek dongah kohoe uh lamtah anih khaw nangmih dongah a kohoe saeh.
If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, [then] rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:
20 Abimelek lamloh hmai puek tih Shekhem boei rhoek neh Bethmillo te a hlawp pawt atah Shekhem boei rhoek neh Bethmillo lamkah hmai aka puek loh Abimelek te hlawp saeh,” a ti nah.
But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.
21 Te ah kho a sak te a maya Abimelek kah mikhmuh la a om dongah Jotham loh rhaelrham tih aka yong te Beer la pawk.
And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

23 Tedae Pathen loh Abimelek laklo neh Shekhem boei rhoek kah laklo ah mueihla thae a tueih pah dongah Shekhem boei rhoek loh Abimelek te a hnukpoh thil uh.
Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:
24 Te tah Jerubbaal ca rhoek hlang sawmrhih te kuthlahnah a khuen thil tih a aka ngawn a manuca Abimelek so neh a manuca rhoek ngawn sak ham a kut aka thoh Shekhem boei rhoek soah a thii phu a suk ham dongah ni.
That the cruelty [done] to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother who slew them, and upon the men of Shechem who aided him in the killing of his brethren.
25 Abimelek te a moeh uh tih tlang som ah aka rhongngol Shekhem boei rhoek loh longuei ah aka pongpa boeih te a rheth uh te Abimelek taengla a puen pah.
And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him on the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.
26 Te vaengah Ebed capa Gaal neh a manuca rhoek tah ha pawk tih Shekhem la a kat uh hatah Shekhem boei rhoek loh anih dongah pangtung uh.
And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trod [the grapes], and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.
28 Te vaengah Ebed capa Gaal loh, “Abimelek te unim, anih taengah thohtat ham khaw Shekhem te unim?, Jerubbaal capa, a hlangtawt khaw Zebul moenih a? Shekhem napa Hamor hlang rhoek taengah thotat uh. Balae tih mamih loh anih taengah n'thotat uh eh?
And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who [is] Abimelech, and who [is] Shechem, that we should serve him; [is] not [he] the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? Serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?
29 Unim mah, pilnam he ka kut dongah han tloeng atah Abimelek ngawn tah ka rhoe vetih Abimelek te, “Na caempuei khaw kuk lamtah ha mop lah,’ ka ti bitni,” a ti nah.
And would that this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thy army, and come out.
30 Ebed capa Gaal ol te khopuei mangpa Zebul loh a yaak vaengah a thintoek a sai pah.
And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.
31 Te dongah puencawn rhoek te Abimelek taengah a huep la a tueih tih, 'Ebed capa Gaal neh a manuca rhoek loh Shekhem la ha pawk uh te, khopuei ah nang aka dum ham ni ke.
And he sent messengers to Abimelech privately, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed, and his brethren, are come to Shechem; and behold, they fortify the city against thee.
32 Te dongah namah neh namah taengkah pilnam loh khoyin ah thoo uh lamtah lohma ah ana rhongngol uh laeh.
Now therefore rise by night, thou, and the people that [are] with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

And it shall be, [that] in the morning, as soon as the sun hath risen, thou shalt rise early, and attack the city: and behold, [when] he and the people that [are] with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.
34 Te dongah Abimelek neh a taengkah pilnam pum te khoyin ah a thoh tih Shekhem ah than li la a rhongngol uh.
And Abimelech rose, and all the people that [were] with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.
35 Te dongah Ebed capa Gaal te moe phai tih khopuei vongka kah thohka ah pai. Te vaengah Abimelek neh a pilnam te rhong lamkah ha thoo.
And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose, and the people that [were] with him, from lying in wait.
36 Pilnam te a hmuh vaengah Zebul te Gaal loh, “Pilnam loh tlang som lamkah ha suntla ke,” a ti nah. Tedae Zebul loh, “Nang khaw mah, tlang kah mueihlip maco hlang bangla na hmuh,” a ti nah.
And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said to him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as [if they were] men.
37 Tedae Gaal loh a thui te koep a khoep tih, “Khohmuen laklung khui lamloh pilnam suntla tih kutyaek thingnu longpuei lamloh rhoi at ha thoeng ke,” a ti nah.
And Gaal spoke again, and said, See, there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.
38 Te vaengah Zebul loh, “'Anih taengah thohtat ham khaw Abimelek te unim,’ na ti vaengkah na ka te tahae atah melam a om, anih he a pilnam neh na sawtsit thil moenih a? Tahae ah paan to lamtah amah ke hnuei kanoek saw,” a ti nah.
Then said Zebul to him, Where [is] now thy mouth, with which thou saidst, Who [is] Abimelech, that we should serve him? [are] not these the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.
39 Te dongah Gaal tah Shekhem boei rhoek kah mikhmuh la moe phai tih Abimelek te a hnueih.
And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
40 Tedae anih te Abimelek loh a hloem tanglai atah a mikhmuh lamloh rhaelrham tih vongka thohka due, hmalaem la muep cungku uh.
And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown [and] wounded, [even] to the entrance of the gate.
41 Abimelek te Arumah ah kho a sak ngawn dae Shekhem ah kho aka sa khui lamkah Gaal neh a manuca rhoek te Zebul loh vik a haek.
And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.
42 A vuen ah om tih pilnam te pong la a caeh ham vaeng daengah Abimelek taengla a puen pauh.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.
43 Te dongah pilnam te a loh tih hlop thum la a boel phoeiah lohma ah a rhongngol sak. Te vaengah khopuei lamkah pilnam ha pawk te lawt a hmuh dongah amih te a pai thil tih a tloek.
And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and behold, the people [had] come out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.
44 Te vaengah Abimelek neh a rhoi rhoek te capit uh tih khopuei vongka kah thohka te a pai thiluh. Tedae rhoi nit long te lohma kah rhoek te boeih a capit thil uh tih a tloek uh.
And Abimelech, and the company that [was] with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and the two [other] companies ran upon all [the people] that [were] in the fields, and slew them.
45 Abimelek loh khohnin yung ah khopuei te a vathoh thil tih khopuei te a loh. A khuikah pilnam te khaw a ngawn tih khopuei te a palet phoeiah lungkaeh a phul thil.
And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that [were] in it, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
46 Boei kuirhang boeih loh a yaak uh vaengah Berith im kah hmuensang la ael uh.
And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard [that], they entered into a hold of the house of the god Berith.
47 Tedae boei kuirhang rhoek loh boeih a coi uh thae te Abimelek taengla a puen pauh.
And it was told to Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were assembled.
48 Te dongah Abimelek loh a taengkah pilnam boeih te Zalmon tlang la a caeh puei. Te vaengah Abimelek loh a kut dongkah hai te a loh tih thing hlaeng a saih. And Abimelech ascended mount Zalmon, he and all the people that [were] with him; and Abimelech took an ax in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid [it] on his shoulder, and said to the people that [were] with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, [and] do as I [have done].
49 Te dongah pilnam boeih long khaw thing hlaeng rhip a saih uh tih Abimelek hnuk a vai uh. Te phoeiah hmuensang te a hong thil uh tih hmuensang te hmai a hlup uh vaengah tah kuirhang huta tongpa hlang thawngkhat tluk boeih duek uh.
And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put [them] to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them: so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
50 Abimelek te Thebez la cet tih a rhaeh thil phoeiah Thebez te a loh.
Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut [it] after them, and ascended to the top of the tower.
52 Te phoeiah rhaltoengim te Abimelek loh a paan tih a vathoh thil. Te dongah hmai neh hoeh hamla rhaltoengim kah thohka la thoeih.
And Abimelech came to the tower, and fought against it, and came near to the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
53 Tedae Abimelek kah a lu te huta pakhat loh sumngol phaklung neh a dae pah tih a luhih a po pah.
And a certain woman cast a piece of of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and broke his skull.

Then he called hastily to the young man his armor-bearer, and said to him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
55 Israel hlang loh Abimelek a duek te a hmuh uh. Te phoeiah tah hlang loh amah hmuen la cet uh.
And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man to his place.
56 Abimelek loh a napa taengah boethae a saii tih a manuca hlang sawmrhih a ngawn te Pathen loh a thuung pah.
Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did to his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:
57 Shekhem hlang kah boethae boeih te khaw amamih lu dongah Pathen loh a thuung pah tih Jerubbaal capa Jotham kah rhunkhuennah te khaw amih soah tla.
And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
