< Laitloekkung 20 >
1 Israel ca rhoek boeih capit uh tih Dan lamloh Beersheba neh Gilead kho duela rhaengpuei loh Mizpah kah BOEIPA taengah pakhat la tingtun uh.
Then went forth all the sons of Israel, and the assembly came together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba with the land of Gilead, —unto Yahweh at Mizpah.
2 Pathen kah pilnam hlangping lakli ah pilnam boeih te a cong cong ah, Israel koca rhoek khaw boeih a pai uh vaengah rhalkap hlang thawng ya li loh cunghang a pom.
And the chiefs of all the people—all the tribes of Israel—presented themselves in the convocation of the people of God, —four hundred thousand footmen, that drew the sword.
3 Israel ca rhoek Mizpah la a caeh uh te Benjamin ca rhoek loh a yaak uh. Te vaengah Israel ca rhoek loh, “Hekah boethae he metlam a om thui uh lah,” a ti uh.
And the sons of Benjamin heard that the sons of Israel had gone up to Mizpah. Then said the sons of Israel, Tell [us], In what manner was brought to pass this vileness?
4 Te dongah a ngawn uh huta kah a va Levi hlang loh a doo tih, “Benjamin kah Gibeah la kamah ka cet tih ka yula taengah ka rhaeh.
And the Levite, husband of the woman that was cut in pieces, responded and said, —Into Gibeah that pertaineth to Benjamin, I entered, I and my concubine, to tarry the night.
5 Te vaengah Gibeah boei rhoek loh kai n'thoh thil uh tih kai te khoyin ah im neh rhen m'vael uh. Kai te ngawn ham cai uh coeng dae ka yula te a phaep uh tih duek.
And the owners of Gibeah rose up against me, and beset the house, for my sake, by night, —me, they thought to slay, and, my concubine, they so humbled, that she died.
6 Israel khuiah boethae halang neh khonuen rhamtat la a saii uh dongah ka yula te ka loh tih ka sah phoeiah Israel kah rho, khohmuen tom la ka pat.
So I laid hold on my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel, —because they had wrought lewdness and impiety, in Israel.
7 Nangmih Israel ca boeih loh namamih kah olka neh cilsuep khaw pahoi pae uh laeh,” a ti nah.
Lo! ye all, are sons of Israel, —give your word and counsel, here.
8 Te vaengah pilnam pum loh pumkhat la pai tih, “Hlang pakhat long khaw a dap la cet boel saeh lamtah pakhat khaw a im la phael boel saeh.
Then arose all the people, as one man, saying, —No man of us will go to his tent, and no man of us will turn aside to his house.
9 Tedae tekah olka vanbangla Gibeah te hmulung neh saii sih.
Now, therefore, this is the thing, that we will do to Gibeah, —[Go] against it by lot;
10 Israel khuiah boethae halang boeih a saii vanbangla Geba kah Benjamin te aka paan tih aka saii pilnam ham lampu aka lo la Israel koca boeih te yakhat ah hlang rha, thawngkhat ah yakhat, thawngrha dongah thawngkhat lo sih,” a ti uh.
and we will take ten men of a hundred, of all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of ten thousand, to fetch provisions for the people, —that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the impiety that it hath wrought in Israel.
11 Te dongah Israel hlang boeih loh khopuei te a capit thil uh tih pumkhat hui uh.
So all the men of Israel were gathered together against the city, as one man knit together.
12 Te dongah Israel ca rhoek loh Benjamin koca rhoek boeih taengah hlang a tueih uh tih, “Balae tih hebang boethae loh na khuiah a om?
And the tribes of Israel sent men throughout all the divisions of Benjamin, saying, —What is this vile thing that hath been brought to pass, among you?
13 Gibeah kah hlang muen ca rhoek te han tloeng laeh. Amih te ka duek sak uh daengah ni Israel khui lamkah boethae te ka khoe pueng eh,” a ti nah. Tedae a pacaboeina Israel ca rhoek kah ol te Benjamin ca rhoek loh hnatun ham huem uh pawh.
Now, therefore, deliver up the men—the sons of the Abandoned One—who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and vileness be consumed out of Israel. But [the sons of] Benjamin would not hearken unto the voice of their brethren, the sons of Israel.
14 Tedae khopuei rhoek lamkah Benjamin ca rhoek loh Israel ca rhoek taengah caemtloek la caeh ham Gibeah ah tingtun uh.
Then did the sons of Benjamin gather themselves together out of the cities, unto Gibeah, —to go forth to battle against the sons of Israel.
15 Te vaeng khohnin ah khopuei takuem lamkah Benjamin ca rhoek te soep uh thae tih cunghang aka pom hlang thawng kul thawng rhuk neh Gibeah kah aka om hlang ya rhih te a soep uh tih a coelh thil uh.
And the sons of Benjamin were numbered on that day, out of the cities, twenty-six thousand men, that drew the sword, —besides, of the inhabitants of Gibeah, were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
16 Te vaengah pilnam boeih khuikah tongpa ya rhih te a coelh uh. Amih te bantang kut aka poem la boeih om dae lungto a dong uh vaengah sam pataeng pit tlaih pawh.
Out of all this people, were seven hundred chosen men, left-handed, —any one of whom could sling with a stone to a hair’s-breadth, and not miss.
17 Benjamin kah a voel ah Israel ca loh buel uh cunghang aka pom caemtloek hlang he a pum boeih la hlang thawng ya li louh.
And, the men of Israel, were numbered, apart from Benjamin, four hundred thousand men, that drew the sword, —every one of these being a man of war.
18 Tedae thoo uh tih Bethel la a yoeng vaengah Pathen te a dawt uh hatah Israel ca rhoek loh, “Benjamin ca rhoek te caemtloek thil ham kaimih ah ulae lamhma la aka cet eh?,” a ti nauh. Te vaengah BOEIPA loh, “Judah te lamhma saeh,” a ti nah.
And they arose, and went up to Bethel, and asked of God, and the sons of Israel said, Who shall go up for us first, to fight against the sons of Benjamin? And Yahweh said—Judah, first.
19 Te dongah Israel ca rhoek loh mincang ah thoo uh tih Gibeah ah rhaeh uh.
And the sons of Israel arose in the morning, —and encamped against Gibeah.
20 Benjamin te caemtloek thil ham Israel hlang te cet tih Israel caemtloek hlang he Gibeah ah yaal uh.
And the men of Israel went forth, to fight against Benjamin, —so the men of Israel set themselves in array against them, to fight against Gibeah.
21 Te vaengah Gibeah lamkah Benjamin ca rhoek ha pawk uh tih lohma sa ah Israel hlang thawng kul thawng hnih te hnin at dongah a phop.
Then came forth the sons of Benjamin out of Gibeah, —and laid low of Israel, on that day, twenty-two thousand men, to the ground.
22 Tedae Israel hlang pilnam loh a thaa a huel tih lamhma khohnin kah rhongpai hmuen ah caemtloek ham te rhong koep a pai uh.
And the people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, —and again set themselves in array for battle in the place where they had set themselves in array on the first day.
23 Te daengah Israel ca rhoek loh cet uh tih kholaeh duela BOEIPA mikhmuh ah rhap uh. BOEIPA te a dawt uh tih, “Ka manuca Benjamin ca rhoek te caemtloek la thoeih ham ka khoep aya?,” a ti nauh. Te vaengah BOEIPA loh, “Anih te caeh thil uh,” a ti nah.
Now the sons of Israel had gone up, and wept before Yahweh, until the evening, and asked of Yahweh, saying, Shall I again draw near to battle against the sons of Benjamin, my brother? And Yahweh said, Go up against him.
24 Te dongah a hnin bae dongah Israel ca rhoek loh Benjamin ca rhoek taengla mop uh.
So the sons of Israel came near against the sons of Benjamin, on the second day.
25 A hnin bae dongah tah amih aka doe ham te Benjamin khaw Gibeah lamkah ha pawk tih Israel ca khui lamkah cunghang aka pom hlang thawng hlai rhet te lohma sa ah boeih a thup uh bal.
And Benjamin came forth to meet them out of Gibeah, on the second day, and laid low, of the sons of Israel, yet eighteen thousand men, to the ground, —all these, drew the sword.
26 Te dongah Israel ca rhoek boeih neh pilnam pum loh cet uh tih Bethel a paan uh. Te vaengah a rhah doela BOEIPA mikhmuh ah ngol uh. Hnin at neh kholaeh duela a yaeh tih BOEIPA mikhmuh ah hmueihhlutnah neh rhoepnah te a nawn uh.
Then went up all the sons of Israel, and all the people, and came to Bethel, and wept, and tarried there before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, until the evening, —and caused to go up ascending-sacrifices and peace-offerings, before Yahweh.
27 Te phoeiah BOEIPA te Israel ca rhoek loh a dawt uh. Te vaeng tue ah tah Pathen kah paipi thingkawng khaw te ah te om.
And the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, —there, being the ark of the covenant of God, in those days;
28 Te vaeng tue ah Aaron koca Eleazar ca Phinekha tah paipi thingkawng hmai ah pai tih, “Ka manuca Benjamin ca rhoek taengah caemtloek la caeh ham te koep ka rhaep aya, ka toeng pawn aya?,” a ti nah. Tedae BOEIPA loh, “Anih te thangvuen ah tah nang kut dongla kan tloeng ham coeng dongah cet ngawn,” a ti nah.
and Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, was standing before it in those days, saying: Shall I yet again go forth to battle, against the sons of Benjamin, my brother, or shall I forbear? And Yahweh said—Go up, for, to-morrow, will I deliver him into thy hand.
29 Te dongah Israel loh Gibeah kaepvai ah rhongngol a khueh.
And Israel set liers in wait against Gibeah, round about.
30 A hnin thum dongah tah Benjamin ca rhoek te Israel ca rhoek loh a paan uh tih a noek noek kah bangla Gibeah te rhong a pai thiluh.
So the sons of Israel went up against the sons of Benjamin, on the third day, —and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as time after time.
31 Te vaengah pilnam aka doe ham te Benjamin ca rhoek ha hlah uh tih khopuei lamloh baat cing uh. A noek noek kah bangla pilnam soah a rhok la tloek banlak ham te Bethel neh Gibeah la aka pawk longpuei ah a tong uh tih Israel hlang sawmthum tluk te lohma sa ah a ngawnuh.
And the sons of Benjamin came forth against the people, they were drawn away from the city, —and began to smite of the people, slaying as time after time, in the highways, whereof, one, goeth up to Bethel, and, the other, to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men in Israel.
32 Te vaengah Benjamin ca rhoek loh, “Lamhma kah bangla mamih mikhmuh ah yawk uh coeng,” a ti uh. Tedae Israel ca rhoek loh, “Rhaelrham uh sih lamtah khopuei lamloh longpuei la cing tak sih,” a ti uh.
Then said the sons of Benjamin, They are, being smitten, before us, as at the first. But the sons of Israel had said—Let us flee, and draw them away from the city, into the highways.
33 Te dongah Israel hlang boeih tah a hmuen lamloh thoo uh tih Baaltamar la rhong a pai uh. Te vaengah Israel khuikah aka rhongngol te Gibeah pool lamloh amah hmuen la a poh.
And, all the men of Israel, rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array in Baal-tamar, —and, the liers in wait of Israel, began to break forth out of their place, out of the forest of Gibeah.
34 Te phoeiah Israel boeih khui lamkah hlang thawng rha a coelh loh Gibeah imdan te a paan uh hatah caemtloek khaw a lalh nauh. Tedae yoethae loh amih taengla a paan te Benjamin ca rhoek ming uh pawh.
And there came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men, out of all Israel, and the battle was severe, —they, not knowing that disaster was overtaking them.
35 Benjamin te Israel mikhmuh ah BOEIPA loh a yawk sak coeng dongah Benjamin khui lamkah cunghang aka pom hlang thawng kul thawng nga yakhat te hnin at nen ni Israel ca rhoek loh a thup.
Thus Yahweh smote Benjamin before Israel, and the sons of Israel destroyed in Benjamin, that day, twenty-five thousand and one hundred men, —all these, drew the sword.
36 Amamih a yawk uh te Benjamin ca rhoek loh a hmuh uh. Te vaengah Israel hlang tah Gibeah kah a khueh rhongngol dongla a pangtung coeng dongah Benjamin ca rhoek loh a hmuen vik a paek.
So the sons of Benjamin saw that they were smitten, —and that the men of Israel had given place to Benjamin, because they trusted to the liers in wait, whom they had set near Gibeah.
37 Rhongngol rhoek long khaw Gibeah la tawn uh tih capit uh tih rhongngol patoeng te a sol dongah khopuei pum te cunghang ha dongla a kaeh.
And, the liers in wait, hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah, —and the liers in wait marched forward, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.
38 Israel hlang neh rhongngol te tingtunnah a om vaengah khopuei lamkah hmaikhu loh cangpaiso bangla muep luei.
Now, the appointed sign, between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, had been, —to cause a great cloud of smoke to ascend out of the city.
39 Tedae caemtloek vaengah Israel hlang loh ki a buung hatah Israel hlang la hlang sawmthum tluk te Benjamin loh a rhok la pahoi a tloek tih, “Lamhma kah caemtloek bangla mamih mikhmuh ah yawk rhoela yawk ngawn coeng,” a ti uh.
So, when the men of Israel turned in the battle, —and, the Benjamites, began to smite and slay of the sons of Israel, about thirty men, for they said, Yea! they are, smitten, before us, as in the first battle,
40 Tedae hmaikhu tung te khopuei lamloh cangpaiso neh koe luei. Benjamin khaw a hnuk la a mael hatah khopuei pum te vaan la tarha ana khuu pah.
then, the cloud, began to ascend out of the city, a pillar of smoke, —and the Benjamites looked behind them, and lo! the whole city flamed up towards the heavens.
41 Te vaengah Israel hlang te ha mael van hatah yoethae loh n'rhul thil coeng tila Benjamin hlang loh a hmuh dongah hlawt let.
And, when, the men of Israel, turned, then were the men of Benjamin dismayed, —for they saw that disaster had overtaken them.
42 Te dongah Israel hlang kah mikhmuh ah khosoek longpuei la hooi uh. Tedae amih te caem loh han cuuk thil tih khopuei lamkah rhoek long khaw amih te a laklo ah a thup.
And, when they turned before the men of Israel unto the way of the desert, the battle, over took them, —while, as for them that came out of the cities, they began to destroy them in their midst: —
43 Benjamin te a hloem uh tih a dum uh coeng dongah Gibeah khocuk due a yoeikoek la a cuuk uh.
they hemmed in the Benjamites, they pursued them, with ease, trode they them down, —as far as over against Gibeah, towards sunrise.
44 Te vaengah Benjamin khui lamkah tatthai hlang kak hlang thawng hlai rhet cungku.
So there fell of Benjamin, eighteen thousand men, —all these being men of valour.
45 Te dongah hooi uh tih khosoek kah Rimmon thaelpang la rhaelrham uh. Tedae longpueng ah hlang thawng nga a paco uh. Te vaengah Gidom duela a cuuk uh tih hlang a thawng thawng la a ngawn uh.
And, when they turned and fled towards the desert unto the cliff Rimmon, then gleaned they of them, in the highways, five thousand men, —and they followed hard after them as far as Gidom, and smote of them, two thousand men.
46 Te vaengah Benjamin khui lamkah aka cungku rhoek boeih he hnin at dongah mah cunghang aka pom tatthai hlang kak te hlang thawng kul thawng nga om.
So then it came to pass that, all the fallen of Benjamin, were twenty-five thousand men, that drew the sword, on that day, —all these being men of valour.
47 Tedae hlang ya rhuk tah hooi uh tih khosoek kah Rimmon thaelpang la a rhaelrham uh dongah Rimmon thaelpang ah hla li om uh.
But there turned and fled, towards the desert, unto the cliff Rimmon, six hundred men, —who abode in the cliff Rimmon, four months.
48 Te phoeiah Israel hlang loh Benjamin ca rhoek te a mael thil uh tih cunghang ha neh a ngawn uh. Khopuei lamkah hlang boeih neh a hmuh sarhui rhamsa khaw, kho tom kah a hmuh sarhui te khaw hmai neh a hla thiluh.
Thus, the men of Israel, turned against the sons of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, beginning with the city, each and every one down to the beast, even to every one that was met with, —moreover, all the cities they came to, they set on fire.
