< Joshua 22 >
1 Joshua loh Reuben koca, Gad koca neh Manasseh koca hlangvang te koep a khue tih,
At that time Joshua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.
2 “BOEIPA kah sal Moses lohnangmih n'uen te boeih ngaithuen uh lamtah nang kang uen boeih dongah kai ol he hnatun uh.
He said to them, “You have done everything that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you. You have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.
3 Tihnin duela kum te yet na manuca rhoek te na hnoo uh pawt dongah BOEIPA na Pathen kah a kuek olpaek te na vai uh coeng.
You have not deserted your brothers these many days, down to this present day, and you have fulfilled the duties required by the commandments of Yahweh your God.
Now Yahweh your God has given rest to your brothers, just as he promised them. Therefore turn and go to your tents in the land you own, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you on the other side of the Jordan.
5 Tedae BOEIPA kah sal Moses loh nangmih ng'uen olpaek neh olkhueng rhep saii ham, BOEIPA na Pathen lungnah ham neh a longpuei cungkuem ah pongpa ham, a olpaek ngaithuen ham neh a taengah rhep hmaiben ham, amah te na thinko boeih, na hinglu boeih neh thothueng ham te khaw ngaithuen uh,” a ti nah.
Just be very careful to observe the commandments and the law that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, and to cling to him and worship him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
6 Amih te Joshua loh yoethen a paek tih a tueih daengah amamih kah dap te a paan uh.
So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went back to their tents.
7 Manasseh koca rhakthuem te Moses loh Bashan ah a phaeng coeng tih rhakthuem te tah Joshua loh khotlak Jordan rhalvangan, rhalvangan ah a pacaboeina neh hmaih a phaeng. Joshua loh amih te amamih kah dap la a tueih vaengah khaw amih te yoethen a paek bal.
Now to one-half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given an inheritance in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave an inheritance beside their brothers in the land west of the Jordan. Joshua sent them away to their tents; he blessed them
8 Te vaengah amih te a thui pah tih, “Na dap te koeva neh a yet la boiva muep a yet nen khaw, cak nen khaw, sui nen khaw, rhohum nen khaw, thicung nen khaw, himbai nen khaw paan uh laeh. Na thunkha kah kutbuem muep aka yet te na manuca neh tael uh thae,” a ti nah.
and said to them, “Return to your tents with much money, and with very much livestock, and with silver and gold, and with bronze and iron, and with very many garments. Divide the plunder from your enemies with your brothers.”
9 A mael uh vaengah Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek, Manasseh koca hlangvang loh Kanaan kho Shiloh kah Israel ca taeng lamloh nong uh tih Moses kut kah BOEIPA ol vanbangla khohut hmuen te buem ham, Gilead kho la cet uh.
So the descendants of Reuben, the descendants of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh returned home, leaving the people of Israel at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan. They left to go to the region of Gilead, to their own land, which they themselves possessed, in obedience to the commandment of Yahweh, by the hand of Moses.
10 Kanaan kho kah Jordan saa te a pha vaengah Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek, Manasseh koca rhakthuem tah Jordan ah hmueihtuk a suem uh. Te hmueihtuk te a mueimae la sang.
When they came to the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar beside the Jordan, a very large and prominent altar.
11 Tedae Israel ca rhoek loh a yaak uh vaengah Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek neh Manasseh koca rhakthuem loh Kanaan kho kah imdan, Jordan saa, Israel ca rhoek kah khongan ah hmueihtuk a suem uh ke,” a ti uh.
The people of Israel heard about this and said, “Look! The people of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar at the front of the land of Canaan, at Geliloth, in the region near the Jordan, on the side that belongs to the people of Israel.”
12 Israel ca rhoek loh a yaak uh vaengah amih te caempuei neh paan thil ham Shiloh kah Israel ca rhaengpuei loh boeih tingtun uh.
When the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the people of Israel gathered together at Shiloh to go up to make war against them.
13 Te phoeiah Israel ca rhoek loh Gilead kho kah Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek, Manasseh koca rhakthuem taengla khosoih Eleazar capa Phinekha te neh,
Then the people of Israel sent messengers to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead. They also sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest,
14 Israel koca imkhui boeih kah a napa, Israel ca thawngkhat imkhui kah a lu la aka om a napa rhoek lamkah khoboei khoboei neh khoboei parha te khaw a tueih uh.
and with him ten leaders, one from each of the tribal families of Israel, and every one of them was the head of a family among the clan of Israel.
15 Te dongah Gilead kho la a kun uh vaengah Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek, Manasseh koca rhakthuem te a voek uh.
They came to the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they spoke to them:
16 BOEIPA kah hlangboel boeih taengah ah, “Mebang boekoek aih lam lae Israel Pathen taengah boe na koek uh tih tihnin ah BOEIPA hnuk lamkah na balkhong uh van he? Namamih kah hmueihtuk na suem uh neh tihnin ah BOEIPA te na tloelh uh.
“The whole assembly of Yahweh says this, 'What is this unfaithfulness that you have committed against the God of Israel, by turning this day from following Yahweh by building yourself an altar this day in rebellion against Yahweh?
17 Peor kathaesainah te mamih ham a rhoeh moenih a? Tihnin kah BOEIPA hlangboel dongah tlohthae aka om he n'caihcil mahpawt a?
Was our sin at Peor not enough for us? Yet we have not even now cleansed ourselves from it. For that sin there came a plague on the assembly of Yahweh.
18 Tihnin ah nangmih loh BOEIPA hnuk lamkah na bal uh nama. Tihnin ah BOEIPA na tloelh thil uh he thangvuen ah Israel rheangpuei pum taengah a thintoek bitni.
Must you also turn away from following Yahweh at this present day? If you also rebel against Yahweh today, tomorrow he will be angry with the whole assembly of Israel.
19 Na khohut diklai ni a rhalawt oeh atah BOEIPA kah dungtlungim loh a pai thil BOEIPA kah khohut diklai la ha kat uh lamtah kaimih saa dongkah he bawn uh mai saw. Tedae mamih Pathen BOEIPA kah hmueihtuk lakah namamih ham a tloe hmueihtuk na suem uh neh BOEIPA te tloelh thil uh boeh, kaimih khaw n'tloelh uh boeh.
If the land that you possess is defiled, then you should pass over into the land where Yahweh's tabernacle stands and take for yourselves a possession among us. Only do not rebel against Yahweh, nor rebel against us by building an altar for yourselves other than the altar of Yahweh our God.
20 Yaehtaboeih neh boekoeknah la boe aka koek Zerah capa Akhan moenih a? Anih kathaesainah ah a thinhul loh Israel rhaengpuei boeih a tlak thil vaengah amah bueng hlang a pal moenih ko,” a ti uh.
Did not Achan son of Zerah break faith in the matter of those things that had been reserved for God? Did not wrath fall on all the people of Israel? That man did not perish alone for his iniquity.'”
21 Te vaengah Israel thawngkhat kah a lu rhoek te Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek neh Manasseh koca rhakthuem loh a doo uh tih,
Then the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh replied in answer to the heads of the clans of Israel:
22 “Pathen rhoek kah Pathen, pathen rhoek kah BOEIPA Pathen, Yahweh loh a ming, Israel long khaw ming saeh. BOEIPA taengah tloelhnah la om oeh tih boekoeknah la a om atah tihnin ah kaimih he n'hlun uh boeh.
“The Mighty One, God, Yahweh! The Mighty One, God, Yahweh!—He knows, and let Israel itself know! If it was in rebellion or in breach of faith against Yahweh, do not spare us on this day
23 BOEIPA hnuk lamloh balkhong ham hmueihtuk ka suem uh khaw, a soah khocang hmueihhlutnah ka nawn uh mai cakhaw, a soah rhoepnah hmueih ka nawn uh mai cakhaw BOEIPA amah loh thuep nawn saeh.
for having built an altar to turn ourselves away from following Yahweh. If we built that altar in order to offer on it burnt offerings, grain offerings, or peace offerings, then let Yahweh make us pay for it.
24 Tedae olka dongah mawnnah ham a om pawt dongah ka saii he thui sih. Thangvuen ah nangmih ca rhoek loh kaimih ca rhoek taengah a thui vetih, “Nangmih taeng neh Israel Pathen BOEIPA taengah balae a benbonah,” ti saeh.
No! We did it for fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, 'What have you to do with Yahweh, the God of Israel?
25 BOEIPA loh kaimih laklo neh nangmih laklo ah rhi a suem coeng. Reuben koca neh Gad koca, BOEIPA dongah Jordan te nangmih kah khoyo moenih. Te dongah nangmih koca loh BOEIPA aka rhih pawh kaimih ca rhoek te kangkuen sak saeh.
For Yahweh has made the Jordan a border between us and you. You people of Reuben and people of Gad, you have nothing to do with Yahweh.' So your children might make our children cease to worship Yahweh.
26 Te dongah, “Hmueihtuk te sak ham mamih loh saii pawn sih, hmueihhlutnah ham moenih, hmueih ham moenih,” ka ti uh.
So we said, 'Let us now build an altar, not for burnt offerings nor for any sacrifices,
27 Te tah kaimih laklo neh nangmih laklo ah, mamih hnukkah mamih cadilcahma laklo ah laipai la om saeh. BOEIPA kah thothuengnah te a mikhmuh ah mamih kah hmueihhlutnah neh, mamih kah hmueih neh, mamih kah rhoepnah neh thothueng sih. Te daengah ni thangvuen ah na ca rhoek loh kaimih ca rhoek taengah, “BOEIPA dongah khoyo te nangmih ham moenih,” a ti uh pawt eh.
but to be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we will perform the service of Yahweh before him, with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings, so that your children will never say to our children in time to come, “You have no share in Yahweh.”'
28 Thangvuen ah kaimih taeng neh n'cadilcahma rhoek taengah a thui uh atah te te ana om mai saeh ka ti uh. Te vaengah, “A pa rhoek loh BOEIPA kah hmueihtuk muei a saii uh te hmueihhlutnah ham pawt tih hmueih ham bal moenih, tedae kaimih laklo neh nangmih laklo kah laipai ni tila hmuh uh,’ ka ti uh bitni.
So we said, 'If this should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we would say, “Look! This is a copy of the altar of Yahweh, which our ancestors made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.”
29 BOEIPA te tloelh ham neh tihnin ah BOEIPA hnuk lamloh taengphael ham, a dungtlungim hmaikah mamih Pathen BOEIPA hmueihtuk phoeiah hmueihhlutnah ham, khocang ham neh hmueih ham hmueihtuk suem te kaimih nen tah savisava,” a ti uh.
May it be far from us that we should rebel against Yahweh, and today turn away from following him by building an altar for burnt offering, for grain offering, or for sacrifice, other than the altar of Yahweh our God that is before his tabernacle.'”
30 Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek neh Manasseh ca rhoek kah a thui uh ol te khosoih Phinekha neh rhaengpuei kah khoboei rhoek, anih taengah aka om Israel ca thawngkhat kah a lu loh a yaak uh vaengah a mik cop uh.
When Phinehas the priest and the leaders of the people, that is, the heads of the clans of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the people of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh said, that it was good in their eyes.
31 Te dongah Reuben ca rhoek, Gad ca rhoek, Manasseh ca rhoek te, Khosoih Eleazar capa Phinekha loh, “BOEIPA te boekoeknah la boe na koek pawt tih Israel ca rhoek te BOEIPA kut lamkah na huul uh coeng dongah BOEIPA loh mamih lakli ah om tila tihnin ah m'ming uh,” a ti nah.
Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest said to the people of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh, “Today we know that Yahweh is among us, because you have not committed this breach of faith against him. Now you have rescued the people of Israel out of the hand of Yahweh.”
32 Te daengah Gilead kho kah khosoih Eleazar capa Phinekha, Reuben ca rhoek neh Gad ca rhoek lamkah khoboei rhoek te Kanaan kho kah Israel ca rhoek taengla bal uh tih olka te a khuen uh.
Then Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, and the leaders returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites, out of the land of Gilead, back to the land of Canaan, to the people of Israel, and brought back word to them.
33 Ol te khaw Israel ca rhoek kah mikhmuh ah a then coeng dongah Israel ca rhoek kah Pathen te a thangthen uh. Te dongah amih taengah caempuei la caeh ham, a khuikah khosa rhoek Reuben ca rhoek neh Gad ca rhoek kah khohmuen phae ham te thui uh voel pawh.
Their report was good in the eyes of the people of Israel. The people of Israel blessed God and spoke no more about making war against the Reubenites and the Gadites, in order to destroy the land where they had settled.
34 Hmueihtuk te khaw Reuben ca rhoek neh Gad ca rhoek loh, “Kaimih laklo ah aka om BOEIPA Pathen kah laipai ni,”tila a sak uh.
The Reubenites and the Gadites named the altar “Witness,” for they said, “It is a witness between us that Yahweh is God.”
