< Johan 18 >
1 Jesuh loh hekah he a thui phoeiah a hnukbang rhoek neh Kidron sok rhalvangan la cet. Teah te dum pakhat om tih a hnukbang rhoek te a khuila a kun puei.
When Jesus had spoken these words, he passed, with his disciples, over the brook Kidron; where was a garden, into which he entered, and his disciples.
2 Tekah hmuen ah a hnukbang rhoek neh Jesuh a humtun uh taitu dongah amah aka voei Judas long khaw a hmuen te a ming.
Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place; because Jesus often resorted thither with his disciples.
3 Te dongah Judas loh caem a khuen hatah khosoihham neh Pharisee rhoek kah tueihyoeih rhoek long khaw hmaiim, hmaithoi, pumcumnah neh ha pawk uh.
Then Judas, having got the cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came thither with lanterns, and torches, and arms.
4 Jesuh loh amah soah aka lo boeih te a ming dongah amih taengla cet tih, “Ulae na toem uh?” a ti nah.
But Jesus, who knew all that was coming upon him, went forth, and said to them, Whom do you seek?
5 Amah te, “Nazareth Jesuh,” a ti nauh. Amih te khaw, “Kai ni he,” a ti nah. Te vaengah amah aka voei Judas khaw amih taengah pai.
They answered him, Jesus, the Nazarene. Jesus replied, I am he. Now Judas, who betrayed him, was with them.
6 Te dongah amih te, “Kai ni,” a ti nah vaengah a hnuk la nong uh tih lai la bung uh.
He had no sooner said to them, I am he, than they, going backward, fell to the ground.
Te vaengah, “Nazareth Jesuh,” a ti uh.
He, therefore, asked them again, Whom do you seek? They said, Jesus, the Nazarene.
Te dongah kai ni nan toem uh atah hekah rhoek he hlah uh lamtah nong saeh,” a ti nah.
Jesus answered, I have told you, that I am he. If, therefore, you seek me, let these go away.
9 Te daengah ni, “Amih te kai nan paek coeng dongah amih khuikah pakhat khaw ka hlong moenih,” tila a thui olka te soep eh.
Thus was that which he had spoken verified, Of those whom thou gavest me, I have lost none.
10 Te vaengah Simon Peter loh a khueh cunghang te a yueh tih khosoihham kah sal te a boeng tih bantang hna te a hlueng pah Sal te a ming Malkhu ni.
Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant's name was Malchus.
Jesus then said to Peter, Put up the sword into the scabbard. Shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me?
12 Te vaengah caem, rhalboeipa neh Judah rhoek kah tueihyoeih rhoek loh Jesuh te a tuuk uh tih a khih uh phoeiah Annas taengah lamhma la a khuen uh.
Then the cohort, and their commander, and the Jewish officers, apprehended Jesus; and having bound him,
brought him first to Annas, because he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
14 Te vaengah aka om Kaiaphas loh, “Hlang pakhat loh pilnam ham a duek te rhoei ngai, “tila Judah rhoek te a uen.
Now it was Caiaphas, who had said in council to the Jews, It is expedient that one man die for the people.
15 Te vaengah Jesuh te Simon Peter neh hnukbang pakhat loh a vai. Tekah hnukbang te khaw khosoihham aka hmat la a om dongah Jesuh taengah khosoihham kah vongup la kun.
Meantime Simon Peter, and another disciple, followed Jesus. That disciple, being known to the high priest, entered his court with Jesus.
16 Tedae Peter tah thohka ah hoei pai. Te dongah khosoihham aka hmat hnukbang pakhat te cet tih imtawt nu te a voek phoeiah Peter te a khuen.
But Peter stood without, at the door. Therefore the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, and spoke to the portress, and brought in Peter.
Anih loh, “Ka om moenih,” a ti nah.
Then the maid, the portress, said to Peter, Are not you also one of this man's disciples? He answered, I am not.
18 Te vaengkah aka pai sal rhoek neh tueihyoeih rhoek loh khosik la a om dongah hmai a toih tih a om uh.
Now, the servants and the officers, stood near a fire, which they had made, because it was cold, and warmed themselves. And Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.
19 Te vaengah khosoihham loh Jesuh te a hnukbang kawng neh a thuituennah kawng te a dawt.
Then the high priest interrogated Jesus concerning his disciples and his doctrine.
20 Jesuh loh, “Kai loh Diklai taengah sayalh la ka thui coeng. Judah rhoek boeih a tingtun nah tunim neh bawkim ah ka thuituen taitu tih a huephael la ka thui moenih.
Jesus answered, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogues and in the temple, whither the Jews constantly resort. I said nothing in secret.
21 Balae tih kai nan dawt? Ka thui te aka ya amih taengah dawt. Kai loh ka thui te amih loh a ming uh lahko,” a ti nah.
Why do you examine me? Examine them who heard me teach. They know what I said.
22 Tedae hekah he a thui vaengah aka pai tueihyoeih pakhat loh Jesuh te kutcaihnah la a khueh tih, “Khosoihham te na voek van pueng,” a ti nah.
When he had spoken thus, one of the officers who attended, gave him a blow, and said, Do you answer the high priest thus?
23 Jesuh loh anih te, A thae la ka cal atah a thae te han thui. Tedae a thuem atah balae tih kai nan boh,” a ti nah.
Jesus replied, If I have spoken amiss, show in what the wrong consists: but if well, why do you smite me?
24 Te phoeiah Annas loh Jesuh te a khih tih khosoihham Kaiaphas taengla a thak.
Now, Annas had sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
As Peter stood warming himself, they asked him, Are not you also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26 Khosoihham kah sal rhoek khuikah pakhat Peter loh a hna a hlueng pah te a huiko la om loh, “Kai loh anih neh nang te dum ah kan hmuh moenih a?” a ti nah.
One of the servants of the high priest, a kinsman to him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, Did I not see you in the garden with him?
27 Tedae Peter koep a basa vaengah ai pahoi khong.
Peter denied again; and immediately the cock crew.
28 Te phoeiah Jesuh te Kaiaphas taeng lamloh khoboeiyung la a khuen uh. Tedae a yue aih pueng dongah amih te khoboeiyung la kun uh pawh. Te daengah ni boi uh pawt vetih yoom te a vael mong eh.
Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the pretorium: it was now morning; but the Jews entered not the pretorium, lest they should be defiled, and so not in a condition to eat the passover.
Pilate, therefore, went out to them, and said, Of what do you accuse this man?
30 Te vaengah anih a doo uh, “Anih loh a thae la a saii te om pawt koinih nang taengla anih kan thak uh mahpawh,” a ti uh.
They answered, If he were not a criminal, we would not have delivered him to you.
31 Te dongah Pilat loh amih te, “Anih te namamih loh khuen uh lamtah namamih kah olkhueng bangla laitloek uh,” a ti nah. Judah rhoek loh, “Kaimih n'ngawn sak loengloeng moenih,” a ti uh.
Pilate said, Then take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law. The Jews replied, We are not permitted to put any man to death.
32 Te daengah ni Jesuh kah olka loh, 'Duek ham cai tih dueknah te a phoe,’ a ti te a soep eh.
And thus, what Jesus had spoken, signifying what death he should die, was accomplished.
33 Te phoeiah Pilat te khoboeiyung la koep kun tih Jesuh te a khue phoeiah, “Nang he Judah manghaila na om a?” a ti nah.
Then Pilate returned to the pretorium, and having called Jesus, said to him, Are you the King of the Jews?
34 Jesuh loh, “Hekah he nang loh namah lamkah nim na thui? A tloe rhoek loh nang taengah kai kawng han thui a?” a ti nah.
Jesus answered, Do you say this of yourself, or did others tell you concerning me?
35 Pilat loh, “Kai he Judah hlang la ka om ngawn pawh. Balae na saii tih na namtu neh khosoihham rhoek loh kai taengla nang n'thak?” a ti nah.
Pilate replied, Am I am Jew? Your own nation, yes, the chief priests have delivered you to me. What have you done?
36 Jesuh loh, “Kai kah ram tah he Diklai kah ram la om pawh. Kai kah ram tah he Diklai kah ram la om koinih Judah rhoek te kai m'voeih pawt ham ka tueihyoeih rhoek loh a hnueih uh ni. Tedae kai kah ram te heah om pawh,” a ti nah.
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my adherents would have fought to prevent my falling into the hands of the Jews; but my kingdom is not hence.
Oltak kah hlang la aka om boeih loh kai ol a hnatun,” a ti nah.
Then Pilate said, You are a King, then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a King. For this I was born; and for this I came into the world, to give testimony to the truth. Whosoever is of the truth, hearkens to me.
38 Pilat loh, “Oltak te ba lae?” a ti nah. Hekah he a thui phoeiah Judah rhoek taengla koep cet tih amamih te, “Anih dongah paelnaehnah ka hmuh moenih.
Pilate asked him, What is truth? and so saying, went out again to the Jews, and said to them, For my part, I find nothing culpable in this man.
39 Tedae yoom ah nangmih taengkah pakhat ka hlah ham namamih khosing om. Te dongah Judah manghai te hlah ham nangmih na ngaih uh a?” a ti nah.
But since it is customary that I release to you one at the passover, will you that I release to you the King of the Jews?
40 Te dongah koep pang uh tih, “Anih moenih Barabbas te,” a ti uh. Te vaengah Barabbas tah dingca la om.
Then they all cried, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
