< Johan 1 >

By Him were all things made, and without Him was not any one thing made that was made.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness attained it not.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John:

this man came for witness, that he might testify concerning the light, that through him all might believe.
He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of the light.
The true light was that which enlightneth every man that cometh into the world.

yea, He came to his own peculiar right, and even his own people received Him not.
12 Tedae anih aka doe boeih neh, anih ming te aka tangnah rhoek tah Pathen ca la om ham saithainah a paek coeng.
But as many as received Him, to them granted He the privilege to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name;

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, being full of grace and truth: and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only-begotten of the Father.
15 Johan loh anih kawng te a phong vaengah pang tih, “Kai hnukah aka pawk tah kai hmaiah om tih kai lakah lamhma la om'” ka ti te anih coeng ni,” a ti.
Of Him did John bare witness, and publicly declared, saying, This was He of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me; for He was before me.
16 A soepnah lamloh lungvatnah sokah lungvatnah khaw mamih loh boeih n'dang uh coeng.
And of his fulness have we all received, even grace for grace.
17 Moses lamloh olkhueng m'paek tih, lungvatnah neh oltak tah Khrih Jesuh lamloh ha thoeng.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ:
18 Pathen te ana hmuh noek moenih, a napa kah rhang dongah aka om Pathen kah khueh duen amah tah tueng coeng.
and though no one hath ever seen God, or can see Him: yet the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, hath made Him known.
19 Jerusalem kah Judah rhoek loh khosoih rhoek neh Levi rhoek te Johan taengah a tueih uh tih, “Nang ulae?” tila a dawt uh. Te vaengah Johan kah a phong tah he coeng ni.
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou?
20 Te vaengah a phong tih a basa moenih. Te dongah, “Kai tah Khrih moenih, “tila a phong.
he confessed, and denied not; but declared openly, I am not the Christ.
21 Te vaengah amah te, “Te koinih ulae? Nang Elijah a?” a ti nauh. Tedae, “Kai moenih,” a ti nah. Nang te tonghma nim ca? a ti nah vaengah, “Moenih,” a ti nah.
And they asked him, What then? art thou Elias? And he said, I am not. Art thou a prophet? and he answered, No.
22 Te dongah amah te, “U nim ca? kaimih aka tueih rhoek taengah ollannah ka paek uh hamla namah kawng te metlam na thui eh?” a ti nauh.
Therefore said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us: What dost thou say of thy self?
23 Te daengah, “Kai tah tonghma Isaiah loh a thui bangla 'Boeipa kah longpuei te dueng uh laeh' tila khosoek ah aka pang ol ni,” a ti nah.
and he said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, "Make straight the way of the Lord," according to Esaias the prophet.
Now they that were sent, were of the pharisees:
25 Te vaengah amah a dawt uh tih, “Khrih la na om pawt atah balae tih na nuem? Nang te Elijah moenih, tonghma bal moenih,” a ti uh.
and they asked him, and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elias, nor a prophet?
John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.
30 Kai loh, 'Kai hnukah aka pawk hlang tah kai hmaiah om coeng, kai lakah lamhma la a om dongah,’ ka ti te tah amah coeng ni.
This is He of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who is preferred before me: for He was before me.
31 Kai khaw amah he kana ming pawh. Tedae Israel taengah a tueng ham dongah ni amah ha pawk vaengah kai loh tui ah ka nuem,” a ti.
And I knew Him not: but therefore came I baptizing with water, that He might be made known to Israel.

And I knew Him not: but He that sent me to baptize with water, said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, the same is he that baptizeth with the Holy Spirit.
And I saw it, and therefore testified that this is the Son of God.

He saith unto them, Come and see. And they came and saw where He dwelt, and abode with Him that day: and it was about the tenth hour.
40 Johan taengkah a yaak rhoi khuikah pakhat tah Simon Peter kah a manuca Andrew khaw om tih amah a vai rhoi.
Now Andrew the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two that heard what John said, and thereupon followed Jesus.
41 Te long tah a maya Simon te a hmuh vaengah lamhma la, “Messiah Te tah Khrih ni a thuingaih, ka hmuh rhoi coeng,” a ti nah.
He first meeteth with his own brother Simon, and telleth him, "We have found the Messiah, which is to say, the Christ."
42 Anih te Jesuh taengah a khuen tih amah a hmuh vaengah Jesuh loh, “Nang tah Johan capa Simon ni, nang he Kephas (Te tah Peter tila a thuingaih) la n' khue ni,” a ti nah.
And Andrew brought him to Jesus: and Jesus looking at him said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonas, thou shalt be called Cephas; which is interpreted a stone.
43 A vuen ah Galilee la caeh hamla a ngaih. Te vaengah Philip a hmuh tih Jesuh loh anih te, “Kai m'vai lah,” a ti nah.
The day following Jesus had a mind to go out into Galilee, and meeting with Philip, saith unto him, Follow me.
44 Philip tah Peter neh Andrew kah a kho Bethsaida lamkah ni.
Now Philip was of Bethsaida the city of Andrew and Peter.

Philip meeting Nathaniel, saith unto him, We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and of whom the prophets also wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Jeseph.
46 Te vaengah Nathanael loh Philip taengah, “Nazareth lamkah a then khat khaw om thai a?” a ti nah. Philip loh amah te, “Halo lamtah so lah,” a ti nah.
And Nathaniel said unto him, Can any thing good come out of Nazareth? Philip replied, Come and see.

And when Jesus saw Nathaniel coming towards Him, He saith concerning him, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile."

Nathaniel replied, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the king of Israel.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I told thee that I saw thee under the fig-tree, thou believest: thou shalt see greater things than these.

And He saith unto him, Verily verily I say unto you, Ye shall hereafter see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
