< Joba 15 >

1 Te phoeiah Temani Eliphaz loh a doo.
And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 Te vaengah, “Aka cueih loh khohli mingnah neh a doo vetih a bung ah kanghawn a hah sak aya?
Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind,
3 A taengah hmaiben pawt tih a hoeikhang pawh olthui te ol neh a tluung aya?
Reasoning with unprofitable talk, and with speeches which do no good?
4 Nang aisat, hinyahnah na muei sak tih Pathen mikhmuh kah thuepnah khaw na bim.
Yea, thou makest piety of none effect, and restrainest meditation before God.
5 Na ka loh namah kathaesainah a cang tih thaai ol na coelh.
For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.
6 Na ka loh nang m'boe sak tih kai long moenih. Na hmuilai long ni namah te n'doo.
Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; and thy lips testify against thee.
7 Hlang lamhma la n'sak tih som a om hlan lamloh n'yom coeng a?
Art thou the first man that was born? and wast thou brought forth before the hills?
8 Pathen kah baecenol te na yaak tih namah hamla cueihnah na buem a?
Hast thou listened in the secret council of God? And hast thou absorbed wisdom for thyself?
9 Ka ming uh pawt te metlam na ming tih kaimih taengah amah a om pawt khaw na yakming?
What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou which is not in us?
10 Sampok khaw, mamih taengkah patong khaw na pa lakah a khohnin khuet coeng ta.
Both the greyheaded and the aged are with us, older than thy father.
11 Pathen loh hloephloeinah neh na taengah dikdik a cal ol nang hamla vawt a?
Are the consolations of God too small for thee? and the word gently spoken to thee?
12 Balae tih na lungbuei na a khuen? Balae tih na mik loh a mikmuelh?
Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and why do thine eyes wink?
13 Na thintoek te Pathen taengla na hooi tih na ka lamloh ol na tha.
That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest words go out of thy mouth?
14 Huta kah a sak te mebang hlanghing nim aka cim tih aka tang te?
What is man, that he should be pure? and he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 A hlangcim khuikah a hlangcim koek pataeng tangnah pawt tih vaan pataeng amah mikhmuh ah a cil moenih.
Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight:
16 Tui bangla dumlai aka mam hlang, a tueilaeh neh a rhonging aisat a.
How much less the abominable and corrupt, — man, that drinketh unrighteousness like water!
17 Nang taengah kan thui eh kai ol he hnatun dae. Ka hmuh te kan tae eh.
I will shew thee, listen to me; and what I have seen I will declare;
18 Te te hlangcueih rhoek loh a thui uh tih a napa rhoek taeng lamloh a phah uh moenih.
Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hidden;
19 Amih te amamih bueng ham khohmuen a paek vaengah amih lakli ah kholong a nuen sak moenih.
Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20 Halang tah hnin takuem amah kilkul tih hlanghaeng ham a kum tarhing la khoem uh.
All his days the wicked man is tormented, and numbered years are allotted to the violent.
21 Ngaimongnah khuiah pataeng anih aka rhoelrhak ham a hna ah birhihnah ol a pawk pah.
The sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer cometh upon him.
22 Hmaisuep lamloh mael ham tangnah pawt tih rhaltawt long khaw amah cunghang te dongah tawt uh.
He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.
23 Buh hamla amah poeng tih a kut ah hmaisuep khohnin bangla a tawn te metlam a ming eh?
He wandereth abroad for bread, — where may it be? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Anih te rhal loh a let sak tih caem dongah a coekcoe la aka om manghai bangla khobing loh anih te a khulae.
Distress and anguish make him afraid; they prevail against him, as a king ready for the battle.
25 Pathen taengah a kut a thueng tih Tlungthang taengah phuel uh.
For he hath stretched out his hand against God, and strengthened himself against the Almighty:
26 A rhawn kah uen a thah la a taengah a photling a yong puei.
He runneth against him, with [outstretched] neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers;
27 A maelhmai te a tha neh a khuk tih a uen duela bungkawt laep.
For he hath covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat upon [his] flanks.
28 Tedae khopuei khosa khaw a im ding te lungkuk la a phaek uh tih a khuiah khosa uh pawh.
And he dwelleth in desolate cities, in houses that no man inhabiteth, which are destined to become heaps.
29 Boei pawt vetih a thadueng khaw pai mahpawh. Amih kah khohrhang loh diklai ah pungtai mahpawh.
He shall not become rich, neither shall his substance continue, and their possessions shall not extend upon the earth.
30 Hmaisuep lamloh nong thai mahpawh. A dawn te hmairhong loh a hae vetih a ka dongkah yilh loh a khoe ni.
He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches; and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31 A poeyoek dongah tangnah boel saeh lamtah a poeyoek dongah khohmang boel saeh. A hnothung khaw a poeyoek lamni a om eh.
Let him not trust in vanity: he is deceived, for vanity shall be his recompense;
32 A khohnin loh cup pawt vetih a rhophoe khaw hing mahpawh.
It shall be complete before his day, and his branch shall not be green.
33 Misur a thaihkang bangla hul vetih olive rhaipai bangla rhul ni.
He shall shake off his unripe grapes as a vine, and shall cast his flower as an olive.
34 Lailak kah hlangboel tah pumhong la om vetih kapbaih kah dap tah hmai loh a hlawp ni.
For the family of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.
35 thakthaenah la vawn tih boethae a sak. A bungko khaw hlangthai palat cuen,” a ti nah.
They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
