Isaiah 36

1 Hezekiah manghai te kum hlai li a lo vaengah Assyria manghai Sennacherib loh a paan. Te vaengah Judah khopuei cakrhuet te boeih a muk tih a tuuk.

Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of the reign of Ezekias, [that] Sennacherim, king of the Assyrians, came up against the strong cities of Judea, and took them.

2 Te phoeiah Assyria manghai loh khotawt Rabshakeh te Lakhish lamloh Jerusalem kah manghai Hezekiah taengah tatthai neh duel a tueih pah. Te vaengah hno suk lo long kah a so tuibuem, tuilong ah pai.

And the king of the Assyrians sent Rabsaces out of Laches to Jerusalem to king Ezekias with a large force: and he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the way of the fuller's field.

3 Te dongah im khoem Hilkiah capa Eliakim tah cadaek Shebna, hnokhoem Asaph capa Joah neh anih taengla pawk.

And there went forth to him Heliakim the steward, the [son] of Chelcias, and Somnas the scribe, and Joach the [son] of Asaph, the recorder.

4 Te vaengah amih te khotawt Rabshakeh loh, “Hezekiah te, 'Manghai aw, Assyria kah manghai len loh, 'Uepangnah la banim na pangtung thil te?

And Rabsaces said to them, Say to Ezekias, Thus says the great king, the king of the Assyrians, Why are you secure?

5 Hmuilai lamkah olka mailai khaw caemtloek ham cilsuep neh thayung thamal ni ka ti. Kai he tloelh hamla unim na pangtung thil coeng.

Is war carried on with counsel and [mere] words of the lips? and now on whom do you trust, that you rebel against me?

6 Capu conghol a paep tangtae la na pangtung thil dae te. Te Egypt soah aka hangdang hlang tah a kut a hun tih a toeh. Egypt manghai Pharaoh aka pangtung thil boeih tah te tlam pawn ni.

Behold, you trust on this bruised staff of reed, on Egypt: [as soon] as a man leans upon it, it shall go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharao king of Egypt and all that trust in him.

7 Kai taengah, 'BOEIPA ka Pathen dongah ni ka pangtung uh,’ na ti cakhaw Hezekiah loh a hmuensang neh a hmueihtuk a palet pah te anih moenih a? Judah neh Jerusalem taengah, 'Hmueihtuk hmai ah he bakop uh,’ a ti dae ta.

But if you say, We trust in the Lord our God;

8 Te dongah ka boeipa te, Assyria manghai toengah rhikhang laeh. Nang te marhang a thawng thawng la kam pae eh. Nang te paek ham ni na coeng thai atah te rhoek te ngol thil.

yet now make an agreement with my lord the king of the Assyrians, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you shall be able to set riders upon them.

9 Ka boeipa kah sal khuikah rhalboei pakhat kah maelhmai te metlam na mael tak eh. Tetca khaw leng ham neh marhang caem ham Egypt na pangtung thil mai.

And how can you [then] turn to the face of the satraps? They that trust on the Egyptians for horse and rider, are [our] servants.

10 BOEIPA mueh lam a khohmuen he phae ham ka caeh? BOEIPA loh kamah taengah, 'Khohmuen ke caeh thil lamtah phae laeh,’ a ti ta,’ ti nah,” a ti nah.

And now, Have we come up against this land to fight against it without the Lord? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

11 Te vaengah Eliakim, Shebna, Joah loh khotawt Rabshakeh te, “Na sal rhoek ham he Aramaih la thui mai. Ka yakming coeng dongah kaimih taengah Judah ol la thui boel mai. Vongtung sokah pilnam a hna laat lah ve,” a ti nah.

Then Eliakim and Somnas and Joach said to him, Speak to your servants in the Syrian tongue; for we understand [it]: and speak not to us in the Jewish tongue: and therefore speak you in the ears of the men on the wall?

12 Tedae khotawt Rabshakeh loh, “He olka thui ham a ka boei loh na boei rhoek neh nangmih taengah kai n'tueih? Vongtung soah aka ngol hlang ham neh amih kah a khawt aka ca ham, amih kah yuntui aka mam, a kho tui nangmih bang ham moenih a?

And Rabsaces said to them, Has my lord sent me to your lord or to you, to speak these words? [has he] not [sent] me to the men that sit on the wall, that they may eat dung, and drink [their] water together with you?

13 Te phoeiah khotawt Rabshakeh pai tih Judah ol neh a len la pang. Te vaengah, “Manghai len Assyria manghai ol he hnatun uh lah.

And Rabsaces stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jewish language, and said, Hear you the words of the great king, the king of the Assyrians:

14 Manghai loh, 'Nangmih te Hezekiah loh n'rhaithi boel saeh, nangmih huul hamla a coeng moenih.

thus says the king, Let not Ezekias deceive you with words: he will not be able to deliver you.

15 Hezekiah te na pangtung uh mahpawh. BOEIPA ming neh, 'BOEIPA loh mamih n'huul rhoe n'huul ni, khopuei he Assyria manghai kut ah pha mahpawh,’ a ti te.

And let not Ezekias say to you, That God will deliver you, and this city will not at all be delivered into the hand of the king of the Assyrians.

16 Hezekiah ol te hnatun uh boeh. Te dongah ni Assyria manghai loh, 'Kamah neh yoethennah saii sih. Kai taengah ha mop uh lamtah a misur neh a thaibu khaw rhip ca uh. A tuito tui khaw rhip o uh.

Listen not to Ezekias: thus says the king of the Assyrians, If you wish to be blessed, come out to me: and you shall eat every one [of] his vine and his fig-trees, and you shall drink water out of your own cisterns:

17 Kamah ka pawk vetih nangmih te namamih kah khohmuen bang cangpai hmuen, buh neh misur khohmuen kah misur thai kho la kan loh hlan ah,’ a ti.

until I come and take you to a land, like your own land, a land of corn and wine, and bread, and vineyards.

18 “BOEIPA loh mamih n'huul bitni,” a ti mai neh Hezekiah loh nangmih m'vuet ve. Namtom pathen pakhat long khaw a khohmuen te Assyria manghai kut lamloh a huul noek a?

Let not Ezekias deceive you, saying, God will deliver you. Have the gods of the nations delivered each one his own land out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians?

19 Khamath neh Arpad pathen te ta? Sepharvaim pathen ta? Samaria te ka kut lamloh a huul noek a?

Where is the god of Emath, and Arphath? and where is the god of Eppharuaim? have they been able to deliver Samaria out of my hand?

20 He diklai pathen boeih soah aka om te unim? Ka kut dong lamloh a khohmuen aka huul te unim? Jerusalem te Yahovah loh ka kut lamkah a huul tang aya te?” a ti,” a ti nah.

Which is the god of all these nations, that has delivered his land out of my hand, that God should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

21 Tedae hil a phah uh tih anih te ol kamat khaw doo uh pawh. Te vaengah, “Manghai kah olpaek dongah he anih doo uh boeh,” a ti nah.

And they were silent, and none answered him a word; because the king had commanded that none should answer.

22 Te phoeiah imkhui kah Hilkiah capa Eliakim, cadaek Shebna, hnokhoem Asaph capa Joah tah himbai aka phen Hezekiah taengla ha pawk tih khotawt Rabshakeh ol te a taegah a puen pauh.

And Heliakim the [son] of Chelcias, the steward, and Somnas the military scribe, and Joach the [son] of Asaph, the recorder, came in to Ezekias, having their garments tore, and they reported to him the words of Rabsaces.
