1 A cungkuem dongah a tuetang om tih vaan hmuikah kongaih boeih dongah khaw a tue om.
For every thing there is a fixed period, and an appointed time to every thing under heaven: —
2 Cun ham tue neh duek ham tue khaw om. Aka phung hamla phung ham tue neh haih ham tue om.
A time to be born, and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.
3 Ngawn ham tue neh hoeih sak ham tue khaw om. Phae ham tue neh sak ham tue khaw om.
A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to breaking down, and a time to build up.
4 Rhah tue neh luem tue khaw om. Rhaengsae tue neh soipet tue khaw om.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.
5 Lungto voeih tue neh lungto calui tue khaw om. Kop tue neh a kop lamloh lakhla tue khaw om.
A time to cast stones asunder, and a time to gather stones together. A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
6 Tlap tue neh paltham tue khaw om. Ngaithuen tue neh voeih tue khaw om.
A time to seek, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away.
7 Phen tue neh bo tue khaw om. Duem om ham tue neh thui tue khaw om.
A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.
8 Lungnah tue neh thiinah tue om. Caemtloek tue neh rhoepnah tue om.
A time to love, and a time to hate. A time of war, and a time of peace.—
9 Anih thakthaekung lamloh mebang rhoeikhangnah lae a saii?
What profit hath he who laboreth from that with which he wearieth himself?
10 Anih te phaep hamla Pathen loh hlang ca rhoek soah a paek te khaw bibi la ka hmuh.
I have seen the business which God hath given to the sons of men to exercise themselves therewith.
11 A cungkuem he amah tue neh sakthen la a saii tih kumhal kah te khaw amih lungbuei ah a khueh pah. Te pawt cakhaw, a tong lamloh a bawt hil Pathen loh a saii bibi te hlang loh a hmuh moenih.
God maketh every thing good in its time; but he hath put the world into the heart of man, so that he understandeth not the work which God doeth, from the beginning to the end.
12 Amah hingnah dongah kohoe ham neh a then saii ham lakah amih ham a then a om moenih.
I know that there is nothing better for a man than that he should rejoice and enjoy good his life long.
13 Hlang boeih he khaw ca mai saeh lamtah o mai saeh, hnothen khaw hmu mai saeh. Te te amah kah thakthaenah cungkuem khuiah Pathen kah kutdoe ni.
But when a man eateth and drinketh, and enjoyeth good through all his labor, this is the gift of God.
14 Pathen loh a cungkuem a saii tila ka ming. Amah tah kumhal duela om. Amah soah thap ham om pawt tih anih lamkah te yueh ham khaw a om bal moenih. Te dongah a mikhmuh ah a rhih uh ham ni Pathen loh a saii.
I know that whatever God doeth, that shall be for ever. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it; and God doeth it that men may fear before him.
15 Aka om oepsoeh te khaw, aka om ham te khaw om oepsoeh coeng. Te dongah a hloem tangtae te Pathen loh a toem.
That which is, was long ago; and that which is to be, hath already been; and God recalleth that which is past.
16 Laitloeknah hmuen ah halangnah hnap om tih, duengnah hmuen ah halangnah hnap a om te khomik hmuiah koep ka hmuh.
Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice there was iniquity; and in the place of righteousness, iniquity.
17 Ka lungbuei ah tah, “A kongaih boeih ham neh a bibi boeih ham khaw a tue a om coeng dongah, aka dueng neh halang khaw Pathen loh lai a tloek ni,” ka ti.
Then said I in my heart, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked.” For there shall be a time for every matter and for every work.
18 Hlang ca rhoek kah dumlai dongah khaw ka lungbuei ah, “Amih te Pathen loh coelh saeh lamtah, amih bang he rhamsa ni amamih loh hmu saeh,” ka ti mai.
I said in my heart concerning the sons of men, that God will prove them, in order that they may see that they are like the beasts.
19 Hlang ca rhoek kah a hmatoeng neh rhamsa kah hmatoeng khaw hmatoeng pakhat ni. Amih ham he kah dueknah bangla ke dueknah khaw om tih a cungkuem ham hil pakhat la om. Te dongah rhamsa lakah hlang kah kumkonah a om moenih. A cungkuem he a honghi ni.
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts: one lot befalleth both. As the one dieth, so dieth the other. Yea, there is one spirit in them, and a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast; for all is vanity.
20 A cungkuem he hmuen pakhat la cet. A cungkuem helaipi lamloh ha thoeng. A cungkuem he laipi la mael.
All go to one place; all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Hlang ca rhoek kah mueihla tah a so la cet tih rhamsa mueihla tah diklai khuila a suntlak thuk khaw ulong a ming?
Who knoweth the spirit of man, whether it goeth upward, and the spirit of a beast, whether it goeth downward to the earth?
22 Te dongah a hamsum bangla a bibi dongah hlang a kohoe lakah ah a then om pawh tila ka hmuh. A hnukah aka thoeng ham te hmuh sak hamla ulong anih a khuen thai?
And so I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his labors; for that is his portion. For who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
