< 1 Samuel 1 >
1 Ephraim tlang kah, ka om Ramathaim Zophim ah hlang pakhat om. A ming tah, Elihu capa Jeroham kah a ca Elkanah ni. Elihu tah Ephraim Zuph capa Tohu kah a ca ni.
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim, a Zuphite of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Toah, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 Anih te yuu panit tih a yuu cuek te Hannah, a pabae tah Peninnah a ming nah. Penninah te camoe om tih Hannah tah camoe om pawh.
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other, Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Tekah hlang tah thothueng ham neh Caempuei BOEIPA nawn hamla hnin bal hnin bal amah kho lamloh Shiloh la cet. Teah te BOEIPA khosoih Eli ca rhoi Hophni neh Phinekha khaw om.
This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of the LORD, were there.
4 A tue a pha tih Elkanah loh a nawn vaengah tah maehvae te a yuu Peninnah neh a capa rhoek khaw a canu rhoek khaw boeih a paek.
When the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and her daughters.
5 BOEIPA loh a bung piim sak cakhaw Hannah tah a lungnah dongah maehvae a paek vaengah Hannah ham tah pakhat neh a rhaep pah thil.
But to Hannah he would give a double portion because he loved Hannah. Now the LORD had kept her from conceiving.
6 BOEIPA loh Hannah bung a piim sak tih a caeng dongah Hannah tah konoinah neh, citcai neh hue a sak.
And because the LORD kept her from conceiving, her rival used to taunt her severely, to irritate her.
7 Kum khat phoeiah kum khat BOEIPA im a paan vaengah khaw hue a sak. Te dongah rhap tih buh ca pawh.
And this went on year after year, as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she taunted her; therefore she would weep and refuse to eat.
8 Te dongah anih te a va Elkanah loh, “Hannah balae tih na rhah, balae tih buh na caak pawh? Balae tih na thinko a phoena? Ca tongpa parha lakah khaw nang taengah ka then moenih a?, a ti nah.
And her husband Elkanah said to her, "Hannah, why are you weeping? And why are you not eating? And why are you so sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?"
9 Te daengah Shiloh kah Hannah loh caak ok ham thoo. Te vaengah khosoih Eli tah BOEIPA bawkim rhungsut taengkah ngolkhoel dongah ngol.
So Hannah got up after eating and drinking in Shiloh, and stood before the LORD. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
10 Hannah tah a hinglu khahing tih a rhah doe a rhah doela BOEIPA taengah thangthui.
And she was greatly distressed and prayed to the LORD, and wept uncontrollably.
11 Te vaengah olcaeng neh a caeng tih, “Caempuei BOEIPA, na salnu kah phacipphabaem he han so rhoela so lah. Kai he m'poek lamtah na salnu he hnilh boeh. Tedae hlang kah tiingan te na salnu ham m'pae lamtah a hing tue boeih te BOEIPA taengla kam pae eh. A lu dongah thiha loh ben boel saeh,” a ti nah.
And she vowed a vow and said, "LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will set him before you as a Nazirite until the day of his death. And he will not drink wine or strong drink, and no razor will come on his head."
12 BOEIPA mikhmuh ah a thangthui te a koe coeng dongah Eli loh a ka te a sawt pah.
Now it happened, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli observed her mouth.
13 Hannah te a lungbuei khuiah cal tih a hmui ni dawk a tat coeng. Tedae a ol a yaak pawt dongah Eli loh anih te yurhui la a poek.
And she was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.
14 Te dongah anih te Eli loh, “Me hil nim na rhuihmil ve, namah te na misur dong lamkah loh cue uh saw,” a ti nah.
So Eli said to her, "How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine, and go from before the LORD."
15 Hannah loh a doo tih, “Moenih, ka boeipa, Kai huta he ka mueihla mangkhak sut tih misur khaw yu khaw ka ok moenih. Tedae ka hinglu he BOEIPA mikhmuh ah ka kingling coeng.
And Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before the LORD.
16 Ka kohuet cungkuem neh tahae ah ka konoi nen ni ka thangthui. Na sal nu kah a muen he na kodang ah dueh boel mai.
Do not count your servant as a worthless woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my distress and my anguish."
17 Eli loh a doo tih, “Ngaimong la cet lamtah amah taengah na bih na huithuinah te Israel Pathen loh m'pae saeh,” a ti nah.
Then Eli answered, "Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him."
18 Te dongah, “Na tueihyoeih he na mikhmuh ah mikdaithen khaw dang van saeh,” a ti nah. Te dongah huta te amah caeh long ah cet tih a caak. Te lamkah long tah Hannah kah maelhmai khaw pumphoe voel pawh.
She said, "Let your servant find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way, and entered her quarters, and ate; and her facial expression wasn't sad any more.
19 Mincang ah thoo uh tih BOEIPA mikhmuh ah tho a thuenguh. Te phoeiah bal uh tih Ramah kah a im te a paan uh. Te vaengah Elkanah loh a yuu Hannah te a ming hatah Hannah te BOEIPA loh a poek.
They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20 Khohnin a thoknah a pha vaengah Hannah te vawn tih ca a cun. Camoe he, “BOEIPA taengah ka bih,” a ti dongah a ming te Samuel a sak.
It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of the LORD."
21 Elkanah loh BOEIPA taengah khoning hmueih neh a olcaeng nawn ham te a cako ah boeih cet uh.
The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and to redeem his vow and all the tithes of his land.
22 Tedae Hannah tah a caeh kolla a va taengah, “Camoe suuk a kan vaengah ka khuen bitni. Te vaengah BOEIPA hmai ah phoe vetih a kum a hal pahoi om bitni,” a ti nah.
But Hannah did not go up; for she said to her husband, "Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and stay there forever."
23 Te dongah anih te a va Elkanah loh, “Na mikhmuh ah a then la saii, anih te suk na kan sak duela om mai ngawn, a ol te BOEIPA loh thoh nawn saeh,” a ti nah. Te dongah a yuu te om tih a capa loh a suk a kan duela a khut.
And Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems good in your eyes. Wait until you have weaned him; only may the LORD establish what you have said." So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.
24 Camoe te suk a kan vanneh vaito kum thum, vaidam te cangnoek pakhat, misur te tuitang pakhat a khuen tih Shiloh kah BOEIPA im a paan puei. Te vaengah a capa te camoe pueng.
Then she took him to Shiloh along with a three-year old bull, and bread, and an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. And she came to the house of the LORD in Shiloh, and the boy was with them. And they went before the LORD and his father slaughtered the sacrifice, which he did annually to the LORD. Then he brought the boy,
25 Vaito te a ngawn uh tih camoe te Eli taengla a thak uh.
and he slaughtered the bull. And Hannah, the mother of the boy, brought him to Eli.
26 Te phoeiah Hananah loh, “Aw ka Boeipa, Ka boeipa namah kah hingnah hinglu rhangneh kai tah BOEIPA taengah thangthui ham heah he namah taengah aka pai huta ni.
She said, "Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD.
27 Camoe ham he ka thangthui tih amah taeng lamkah ka bih vanbangla ka huithuinah te ka taengah BOEIPA loh m'paek coeng.
For this child I prayed; and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.
28 Te dongah anih he BOEIPA ham ni ka bih tih anih a tue khohnin aka om boeih khaw BOEIPA ham ni ka bih coeng,” a ti nah tih BOEIPA taengah pahoi bakop.
Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD. As long as he lives he is lent to the LORD." Then she left him there, and she worshipped before the LORD.
