< 1 Samuel 5 >
1 Philisti loh a loh Pathen thingkawng te Ebenezer lamloh Ashdod la a khuen uh.
Now, the Philistines, having taken the ark of God, —brought it in from Eben-ezer, unto Ashdod.
2 Te dongah Philisti loh a khuen Pathen thingkawng te Dagon im la a det uh tih Dagon taengah a khueh uh.
And, when the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, —and placed it by the side of Dagon.
3 A vuen ah Ashodi rhoek te a thoh uh vaengah Dagon tah BOEIPA thingkawng hmai ah diklai la a hmai longah tarha ana cungku. Te dongah Dagon te a loh uh tih amah hmuen la koep a khueh uh.
And, when they of Ashdod rose early on the morrow and entered into the house of Dagon, they looked and lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh, —so they took Dagon and restored him to his place.
4 A vuen mincang kah a thoh uh vaengah khaw Dagon te BOEIPA thingkawng hmai ah diklai la a hmai longah tarha cungku bal. Dagon kah a lu neh a kut kutpha rhoi khaw thohkong dongah a khuek tih Dagon bueng te sueng.
And, when they rose up early in the morning of the morrow, lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh—and, the head of Dagon, and both the palms of his hands, had been cut off against the threshold, only, Dagon himself, was left to him.
5 Te dongah Dagon khosoih long khaw, Dagon im la aka kun boeih long khaw ti hnin duela Ashdod kah Dagon thohkong te cawt uh pawh.
For this cause, do not the priests of Dagon, nor any that enter into the house of Dagon, tread upon the threshold of Dagon, in Ashdod, —until this day.
6 BOEIPA kut loh Ashodi te a nan tih a pong sak. Ashdod neh a khorhi khui te tungueh nen khaw, rhilcolh nen khaw a ngawn.
Then was the hand of Yahweh heavy against them of Ashdod, and he astounded them, —and smote with tumours Ashdod and her bounds.
7 Ashdod hlang rhoek loh a hmuh uh vaengah, “Mamih neh mamih kah pathen Dagon khaw a kut neh mat a nan coeng dongah Israel Pathen kah thingkawng he mamih taengah om voel boel saeh,” a ti uh.
And, when the men of Ashdod saw that, so, it was, then kept they saying, Let not the ark of the God of Israel abide with us, for, hard, is his hand upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
8 Te dongah Philisti boei rhoek te boeih a tah uh tih a tingtun uh vaengah, “Israel Pathen kah thingkawng te metlam n'saii eh?,” a ti uh. Tedae, “Israel Pathen kah thingkawng te Gath la mael saeh,” a ti na uh dongah Israel Pathen kah thingkawng te a mael sakuh.
So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said—What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they said: To Gath, let the ark of the God of Israel go round. So they took round the ark of the God of Israel.
9 Thingkawng a mael hnukah khaw khopuei te BOEIPA kut loh a om thil pueng tih soekloeknah a len la muep om. Khopuei kah hlang te tanoe kangham la a ngawn tih amih pum dongah rhilcolh la a puek pa uh.
And so it was, after they had taken it round, then was the hand of Yahweh against the city, with an exceeding great consternation, and he smote the men of the city, from the least, even unto the greatest, —and they brake out with tumours.
10 Te dongah Pathen kah thingkawng te Ekron la a thak uh. Tedae Pathen kah thingkawng te Ekron la a pawk van neh Ekroni rhoek pang uh tih, “Mamih neh mah kah pilnam aka ngawn hamla Israel Pathen kah thingkawng tah mamih taengla ham mael coeng,” a ti uh.
Then sent they the ark of God to Ekron, —and so it was, when the ark of God entered Ekron, that the Ekronites made outcry, saying—They have brought round unto me the ark of the God of Israel, to slay me, and my people!
11 Te dongah Philisti boei rhoek te boeih a tah uh tih a tingtun uh vaengah, “Israel Pathen kah thingkawng te thak uh lamtah amah hmuen la mael laeh saeh. Te daengah ni mamih neh mah pilnam he a duek sak pawt eh. Pathen kut loh mat a nan tih khopuei tom ah dueknah dongkah soekloeknah la om coeng,” a ti uh.
So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said—Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and restore it to its own place, that it slay not me, and my people. For there had come a deadly consternation, throughout all the city, heavy exceedingly, was the hand of God there.
12 Hlang te tungueh rhilcolh neh a ngawn tih duek uh ngawn pawt dae khopuei kah a pang rhoe mah vaan la luei.
And, the men who died not, were smitten with the tumours, —so the cry of the city for help, ascended the heavens.
