< 1 Samuel 19 >
1 Saul loh a capa Jonathan taengah khaw a sal rhoek taengah khaw David te duek sak hamla boeih a thui pah. Tedae Saul capa Jonathan longtah David te bahoeng a ngaih.
Then spake Saul unto Jonathan his son, and unto all his servants, that they should put David to death;
2 Te dongah Jonathan te David taengah a puen tih, “A pa Saul loh nang he duek sak hamla m'mae coeng, te dongah mincang duela ngaithuen uh, yinhnuk ah khosa lamtah thuh uh,
but, Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted in David, exceedingly, —so Jonathan told David, saying, Saul, my father, is seeking to put thee to death, —now, therefore, take heed to thyself I pray thee, in the morning, and abide thou in concealment, and hide thyself;
3 Kai khaw ka cet vetih na om nah lohma kah a pa kut dongah kana pai bitni. Te vaengah nang kawng te kamah loh a pa taengah ka thui pah vetih mebang ka hmuh akhaw nang taengah ka puen bitni,” a ti nah.
and, I, will come out and stand beside my father, in the field where, thou, art, and, I, will speak of thee unto my father, —and, if I see aught, I will tell thee.
4 David kawng te Jonathan loh a napa Saul taengah a then la a thui pah tih, “A sal taeng neh David taengah manghai nang loh lai khueh boeh, anih loh nang taengah lai a khueh van moenih, a khoboe khaw nang taengah bahoeng then.
So then Jonathan spake of David things that were good, unto Saul his father, —and said unto him—May the king not sin against his servant—against David; for he hath not sinned against, thee, nay, indeed, his doings have been good to theeward exceedingly.
5 A kut dongah a hinglu te a hmoel tih Philisti a ngawn khaw, BOEIPA loh Israel boeih ham a saii loeihnah tanglue na hmuh vaengah na kohoe ta. Tedae balae tih ommongsitoe thii dongah na tholh vetih, lunglilungla la David a duek eh?,” a ti nah.
And, when he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and Yahweh wrought a great victory for all Israel, thou sawest, and didst rejoice. Wherefore, then, shouldst thou sin against innocent blood by putting David to death, without cause?
6 Saul loh Jonathan ol te a yaak vaengah, “BOEIPA kah hingnah rhang neh ka ngawn mahpawh,” tila Saul loh a caeng.
And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan, —and Saul sware, By the life of Yahweh, he shall not be put to death!
7 Te dongah Jonathan loh David te a khue tih olka he khaw anih taengah Jonathan loh boeih a thui pah. Te phoeiah David te Jonathan loh Saul taengla a khuen tih hlaem hlavai kah bangla a mikhmuh ah a om pah.
And Jonathan called for David, and Jonathan told him all these things, —and Jonathan brought in David unto Saul, and so he was in his presence, as aforetime.
8 Caemtloek loh a koei tih a om vaengah David te hlah uh tih Philisti te a vathoh thil. Te vaengah amih te hmasoe len neh a ngawn tih Philisti khaw David mikhmuh lamkah rhaelrham uh.
But, when the war again brake out, —and David went forth and fought with the Philistines, and smote them with a great smiting, and they fled before him,
9 Tedae BOEIPA kah mueihla thae loh Saul soah a om vaengah tah a kut dongkah caai neh a im khuiah ngol. Te vaengah David loh kut a luem nah.
then came there a sad spirit of Yahweh unto Saul, he being in his house, seated, with his spear in his hand, —while, David, played with his hand,
10 Saul loh David neh pangbueng te caai neh daeng rhenten hamla a moeh coeng dae Saul kah mikhmuh ah a phaelhael tak dongah caai te pangbueng dongah tlaeh. David khaw tekah khoyin ah rhaelrham tih a poeng a hal.
Saul sought to smite David with the spear, even to the wall, but he slipped away from before Saul, who smote the spear into the wall, —whereas, David, fled and escaped, that night.
11 Te dongah anih te dawn tih mincang ah ngawn hamla Saul loh David im la puencawn a hlah. Tedae a yuu Mikhal te David taengla puen tih, “Na hinglu ham khoyin ah na loeih pawt koinih thangvuen ah na duek pawn ni,” a ti nah.
And Saul sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to put him to death, in the morning! And Michal his wife told David, saying, If thou do not deliver thyself to-night, to-morrow, art thou to be put to death.
12 Te dongah Mikhal loh David te bangbuet longah a suntlak sak tih a caeh sak daengah yong pueng tih a poeng a hal pueng.
So Michal let down David, through the window, and he departed and fled, and escaped.
13 Te phoeiah Mikhal loh sithui te a loh tih baiphaih dongah a soei. A lu ah maae mul a khueh pah tih himbai neh a khuk.
And Michal took the household god, and put it in the bed, and, a fly-net of goat’s-hair, put she at its head, —and covered it with the clothes.
14 David te tuuk hamla Saul loh puencawn rhoek a tueih vaengah tah, “David a sa tlo,” a ti nah.
And, when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said—He is, sick.
15 Tedae David te sawt hamla Saul loh puencawn rhoek te a tueih tih, “Anih te ngawn hamla baiphaih neh kamah taengla hang khuen uh,” a ti nah.
So Saul sent messengers to see David, saying, —Bring him up in the bed unto me, that I may put him to death.
16 Tedae baiphaih dongkah sithui vik te a lu dongah maae mul hoeng la puencawn rhoek loh kak a thoeng thiluh.
And, when the messengers entered, lo! the household god in the bed, —with a fly-net of goat’s-hair at its head.
17 Te dongah Saul loh Mikhal te, “Balae tih he tluk la kai nam phok, ka thunkha te na tueih tih a loeih,” a ti nah. Te vaengah Mikhal loh Saul te, “Amah loh kai taengah, 'Kai he n'tueih mai,’ a ti balae tih nan duek sak eh,” a ti nah.
And Saul said unto Michal—Wherefore, in this way, hast thou deceived me, and let go mine enemy, that he hath escaped? Then said Michal unto Saul, He, himself, said unto me—Let me go, wherefore should I put thee to death?
18 David te yong tih a loeih phoeiah Ramah kah Samuel te a paan. Te vaengah Saul loh anih taengah a saii te a taengah boeih a thui pah. Te phoeiah Samuel neh cet rhoi tih Naioth ah om rhoi.
So, David, fled, and escaped, and came in unto Samuel in Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him, —and he and Samuel departed, and dwelt in Naioth.
19 Tedae Saul taengla a puen pa uh tih, “Ramah Naioth ah David om ke,” a ti nah.
And it was told Saul, saying, —Lo! David, is in Naioth, in Ramah.
20 Te dongah David tuuk hamla Saul loh puencawn rhoek te a tueih. Te vaengah tonghma tarhoi te tonghma uh tih amih taengah Samuel cawkdawk la a pai te a hmuh uh. Saul kah puencawn rhoek khaw Pathen Mueihla loh a om thil dongah amih khaw boeih tonghma uh.
So Saul sent messengers to take David, but, when they saw the assembly of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, then came the Spirit of God upon the messengers of Saul, and, they also, were, moved to prophesy.
21 Saul taengla a puen uh dongah puencawn a tloe rhoek a tueih hatah amih khaw nunan tonghma uh. Te dongah Saul loh a pathum duela a rhaep tih puencawn rhoek te a tueih hatah amih khaw tonghma uh sumsoek.
And, when they told Saul, and he sent other messengers, then were, they also, moved to prophesy. And, when Saul again sent messengers a third time, then were, they also, moved to prophesy.
22 Te dongah amah khaw Ramah la cet tih Seku kah tangrhom puei la pawk. Te vaengah a dawt tih, “Samuel neh David ta?,” a ti nah hatah, “Ramah Naioth ah om ke,” a ti nauh.
Then went, he also himself, to Ramah, and came in as far as the well of the threshing-floor which is in Sephi, and asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said—Lo! in Naioth, in Ramah.
23 Te dongah Ramah Naioth la pahoi cet. Tedae anih khaw Pathen Mueihla loh a om thil dongah cet cet tih Ramah Naioth a pha duela voek tonghma bal.
And, when he departed from thence towards Naioth in Ramah, then came upon, him also, the Spirit of God, and he went on and on, and was moved to prophesy, until he entered Naioth in Ramah.
24 Amah khaw a himbai a pit tih Samuel mikhmuh ah amah tonghma bal. Te khothaih puet khoyin puet pumtling la yalh. Te dongah, “Saul khaw tonghma khuikah ni nama?” a ti uh.
And, even he, stripped off his upper garments, and, even he, was moved to prophesy before Samuel, and lay prostrate, disrobed, all that day, and all the night. For this cause, do they say, Is, even Saul, among the prophets?
