1 Elijah kah a saii boeih, tonghma boeih cunghang neh a pum la a ngawn te khaw Ahab loh Jezebel taengah a puen pah.
And Ahab told Jezebel, all that Elijah had done, —and withal, how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Jezebel loh Elijah taengla puencawn a tueih tih, “Pathen rhoek loh saii uh van saeh lamtah koei uh van saeh, thangvuen khohnin ah amih pakhat kah hinglu bangla na hinglu te ka saii vaengah,” a ti nah.
Then sent Jezebel a messenger unto Elijah, saying, —So, let the gods do, and, so, let them add, if, by this time to-morrow, I make not thy life as the life of one of them.
3 A rhih dongah thoo tih a hinglu hamla yong. Judah kah Beersheba a pha vaengah a tueihyoeih te pahoi a om tak.
And, when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, —and left his servant there.
4 Anih te khosoek la cet tih hnin at longcaeh a pha. Te vaengah hlingcet hmui ah ngol tih a hinglu a duek ham a bih. Te dongah, “Temah laeh saeh, BOEIPA aw ka hinglu he lo laeh, kai he a pa rhoek lakah ka then moenih,” a ti nah.
But, he himself, went into the wilderness a day’s journey, and came and sat down under a certain shrub, —and asked for his life, that he might die, and said—Enough, now, O Yahweh! take away my life, for, no better, am, I, than, my fathers.
5 Yalh tih hlingcet hmui ah a ih vaengah puencawn loh anih te tarha a taek tih, “Thoo lamtah Ca laeh,” a ti nah.
And, as he lay, and slept, under a certain shrub, lo! a messenger, touching him, who said to him—Rise, eat.
6 A paelki hatah a lu ah cangrhoh buh neh tui um lawt a om pah. Te dongah a caak a ok tih koep yalh.
So he looked about, and lo! at his head, a cake baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water, —and he did eat and drink, and then went back and lay down.
7 BOEIPA kah puencawn a pabae la mael tih anih te a taek. Te phoeiah, “Nang hamla longpuei puh pueng, thoo lamtah ca dae,” a ti nah.
And the messenger of Yahweh came again a second time, and touched him, and said—Rise, eat, —because, too much for thee, is the journey.
8 Te dongah thoo tih uh a caak, tui a ok. Te phoeiah caak ok kah thadueng neh Pathen kah tlang Horeb hil khoyin sawmli, khothaih sawmli cet.
So he arose, and did eat and drink, —and journeyed, in the strength of that eating, forty days and forty nights, as far as the mountain of God—Horeb.
9 Lungko khuila pahoi kun tih a rhaeh vaengah BOEIPA ol anih taengla pak a pawk pah. Te vaengah anih te, “Elijah heah nang ham balae aka om he,” a ti nah.
And he entered, there, into a cave, and lodged there, —and lo! the word of Yahweh [came] unto him, and said to him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 Te dongah, “Caempuei Pathen BOEIPA ham ka thatlai la ka thatlai coeng. Na paipi te Israel ca loh a toeng tih na hmueihtuk a koengloeng uh, na tonghma rhoek te cunghang neh a ngawn uh, kai kamah bueng ka sueng dae ka hinglu loh ham a mae uh,” a ti nah.
And he said—Very jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets, also have they slain with the sword, —and, I alone, am left, and they have sought my life, to take it.
11 Te vaengah, “Cet lamtah tlang sokah BOEIPA mikhmuh ah pai,” a ti nah. BOEIPA tarha pah tih khohli a tloh vaengah tlang rhoek te phuk a va. BOEIPA mikhmuh ah thaelpang khaw rhek. Tedae BOEIPA he khohli khuiah om pawh. Khohli phoeiah lingluei tho dae lingluei khuiah BOEIPA a om moenih.
And he said—Go forth to-morrow, and stand in the mountain, before Yahweh. And lo! Yahweh, passing by, and a great and strong wind—rending the mountains, and breaking in pieces the crags, before Yahweh, Not, in the wind, was, Yahweh, —And, after the wind, an, earthquake, Not, in the earthquake, was, Yahweh;
12 Lingluei hnukah hmai om dae hmai khuiah BOEIPA a om moenih. Hmai hnuk ah tah bidip ol dingsuek la om.
And, after the earthquake, a, fire, Not, in the fire, was, Yahweh, —And, after the fire, the voice of a gentle whisper.
13 Elijah loh a yaak vaengah a himbai neh a maelhmai a cun. Te phoeiah cet tih lungko thohka ah pai. Te vaengah anih taengla ol hlawt a caeh pah tih, “Elijah heah nang ham balae aka om?” a ti nah.
And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went forth, and stood at the entrance of the cave, —and lo! unto him, a voice; and it said—What doest thou here, Elijah?

And Yahweh said unto him, Go, return to thy way, towards the wilderness of Damascus, —and, when thou enterest, then shalt thou anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;
16 Nimshi capa Jehu te Israel kah manghai la koelh laeh. Abelmeholath lamkah Shaphat capa Elisha te namah yueng tonghma la koelh.
And, Jehu son of Minshi, shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel, —and, Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy stead:
17 Hazael cunghang lamkah aka loeih te Jehu loh a duek sak vetih Jehu cunghang lamkah aka loeih te Elisha loh a duek sak ni.
Then shall it come to pass, that—him that escapeth the sword of Hazael, shall, Jehu, slay, —and, him that escapeth the sword of Jehu, shall, Elisha, slay;
18 Baal taengah khuklu aka cungkueng pawt boeih, anih te a ka neh aka mok pawt boeih he Israel khuikah thawng rhih ka hlun pueng,” a ti nah.
Yet will I leave remaining in Israel, seven thousand, —all knees which have not bowed to Baal, and all mouths which have not kissed to him.
19 Te lamloh a caeh vaengah Shaphat capa Elisha te a hmuh. Te vaengah a mikhmuh ah rhoi hlai nit ana balak. Amah tah a hlai nit nah dongah balak. Elijah loh anih te a paan tih a taengah a himbai a voeih pah.
So he departed from thence, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, as he was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, he being with the twelfth, —so Elijah crossed over unto him, and cast his mantle towards him;
20 Vaito te pak a hlak tih Elijah hnukah yong. Te vaengah Elijah te, “A pa neh a nu tah ka mok mai eh. Te phoeiah nang hnukah ka lo bitni,” a ti nah. Te dongah anih te, “Cet ngawn lamtah nang taengah mebang khaw ka saii dongah koep ha mael,” a ti nah.
and he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said—Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, that I may follow thee. And he said unto him, —Go, turn back, for what have I done to thee?
21 Te dongah Elijah hnuk lamloh mael tih vaito rhoi at te a loh. Te te a ngawn tih maeh te vaito mah kah hnopai neh a thoong. Te phoeiah pilnam te a paek tih a caak uh. Te phoeiah thoo tih Elijah hnukah cet tih thotat.
So he turned back from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and sacrificed them, and, with the implements of the oxen, boiled their flesh, and gave unto the people, and they did eat, —then he arose, and followed Elijah, and ministered unto him.
