< 1 Khawrin 14 >
Pursue charity. Be zealous for spiritual things, but only so that you may prophesy.
For whoever speaks in tongues, speaks not to men, but to God. For no one understands. Yet by the Spirit, he speaks mysteries.
3 Te dongah aka phong loh hlang ham hlinsainah, thaphohnah neh suemnah khaw a thui.
But whoever prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.
4 Ol aka thui tah amah hlinsai uh dae aka phong long tah hlangboel te a hlinsai.
Whoever speaks in tongues edifies himself. But whoever prophesies edifies the Church.
Aka phong tah ol aka thui lakah tanglue. A thuicaih pawt atah hlangboel loh hlinsainah dang hae mahpawh.
Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but more so to prophesy. For he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless perhaps he interprets, so that the Church may receive edification.
6 Tedae manuca rhoek, tahae ah nangmih taengla ol tloe la ka cal tih nangmih ham pumphoenah nen khaw, mingnah nen khaw, tonghma ol nen khaw, thuituennah nen khaw ka thui mueh la, ka lo koinih nangmih ham balae ka hoeikhang?
But now, brothers, if I were to come to you speaking in tongues, how would it benefit you, unless instead I speak to you in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in doctrine?
7 Thingkoh phavit neh rhotoeng pataeng khaw ol cai dae oldi te a lang la cai pawt koinih phavi tum te khaw rhotoeng tum te metlam m'ming eh.
Even those things that are without a soul can make sounds, whether it is a wind or a stringed instrument. But unless they present a distinction within the sounds, how will it be known which is from the pipe and which is from the string?
8 Te dongah olueng khaw a ol lumrhilumrha la cai koinih ulae caemthoh ham a tawn uh eh?
For example, if the trumpet made an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for battle?
So it is with you also, for unless you utter with the tongue in plain speech, how will it be known what is said? For then you would be speaking into the air.
10 Diklai ah namtom ol te om tih heyet a dang mai ni. Tedae olmueh la a om moenih.
Consider that there are so many different kinds of languages in this world, and yet none is without a voice.
Therefore, if I do not understand the nature of the voice, then I shall be like a foreigner to the one with whom I am speaking; and he who is speaking will be like a foreigner to me.
So it is with you also. And since you are zealous for what is spiritual, seek the edification of the Church, so that you may abound.
13 Te dongah ol aka cal tah a thangthui daengah ni a thuicaih thai eh.
For this reason, too, whoever speaks in tongues, let him pray for the interpretation.
14 Ol tloe neh ka thangthui coeng atah ka mueihla khaw thangthui dae ka lungbuei tah a tlongtlai la om.
So, if I pray in tongues, my spirit prays, but my mind is without fruit.
What is next? I should pray with the spirit, and also pray with the mind. I should sing psalms with the spirit, and also recite psalms with the mind.
16 Te vaengah mueihla neh na uem koinih hlangthawt hmuen kah aka tomthap loh nang kah uemonah te metlam amen a ti eh. Na thui te a ming hae moenih ta.
Otherwise, if you have blessed only with the spirit, how can someone, in a state of ignorance, add an “Amen” to your blessing? For he does not know what you are saying.
17 Nang loh na uem te then ngawn dae hlang tloe te a hlinsai moenih.
In this case, certainly, you give thanks well, but the other person is not edified.
18 Nangmih boeih lakah ol ka thui tih Pathen te ka uem.
I thank my God that I speak in tongues for all of you.
But in the Church, I prefer to speak five words from my mind, so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in tongues.
20 Manuca rhoek, kopoeknah dongah camoe la om uh boeh. Phayoenah ham khaw camoe na diik uh dae kopoeknah dongah lungcuei la om uh.
Brothers, do not choose to have the minds of children. Instead, be free of malice like infants, but be mature in your minds.
21 Olkhueng dongah Boeipa loh, “Pilnam he kholong ol nen khaw, hlang tloe kah hmui ka nen khaw ka voek sui dae kai ol he hnatun uh hae mahpawh,” tila a daek.
It is written in the law: “I will speak to this people with other tongues and other lips, and even so, they will not heed me, says the Lord.”
22 Te dongah ol tloe he aka tangnah rhoek ham miknoek la om pawt dae aka tangnahmueh rhoek ham ni a om. Tedae tonghma ol tah aka tangnahmueh rhoek ham pawt tih aka tangnah rhoek ham ni.
And so, tongues are a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers; and prophecies are not for unbelievers, but for believers.
23 Te dongah hlangboel tah a pum la khoong tih ol a thui paluep uh. Tedae hlangthawt neh aka tangnahmueh rhoek ha kun uh koinih na ang uh coeng tila thui uh mahpawt nim?
If then, the entire Church were to gather together as one, and if all were to speak in tongues, and then ignorant or unbelieving persons were to enter, would they not say that you were insane?
24 Te phoeiah hlang boeih loh olphong koinih aka tangnahmueh hlangvang neh hlangthawt a kun vaengah, hlang boeih lamloh a toeltham ni. Hlang boeih lamloh a boelh ni.
But if everyone prophesies, and one who is ignorant or unbelieving enters, he may be convinced by it all, because he understands it all.
25 A thinko kah a huephael te mingpha la a om vaengah a maelhmai buenglueng vetih Pathen a bawk ni. Pathen tah nangmih taengah om taktak tila puen ni.
The secrets of his heart are then made manifest. And so, falling to his face, he would adore God, proclaiming that God is truly among you.
26 Te phoeiah balae aka om pueng? Manuca rhoek, na khoong uh vaengah tingtoeng rhip a khueh, thuituennah a khueh, pumphoenah a khueh, ol a khueh, a kongnah a khueh te hlinsainah ham boeih om saeh.
What is next, brothers? When you gather together, each one of you may have a psalm, or a doctrine, or a revelation, or a language, or an interpretation, but let everything be done for edification.
27 Khat khat loh ol a thui atah panit neh a yet koek pathum loh tloeptloep ah thui saeh lamtah pakhat loh thuicaih saeh.
If anyone is speaking in tongues, let there be only two, or at most three, and then in turn, and let someone interpret.
28 Tedae thuicaihkung a om pawt atah hlangboel khuiah kamkhuem saeh lamtah amah neh Pathen taengah thui saeh.
But if there is no one to interpret, he should remain silent in the church, then he may speak when he is alone with God.
29 Tonghma tah panit, pathum khaw thui sak uh lamtah a tloe rhoek loh boelhkhoeh saeh.
And let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern.
30 Tedae aka ngol loh hlang tloe taengah a pumphoe atah lamhma loh kamkhuem saeh.
But then, if something is revealed to another who is sitting, let the first one become silent.
31 Pakhat phoeiah pakhat boeih na phong uh thai daengah ni boeih a cang uh vetih boeih a thaphoh uh eh.
For you are all able to prophesy one at a time, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 Tonghma rhoek kah mueihla te khaw tonghma rhoek taengah boengai uh saeh.
For the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 Pathen tah soekloeknah pawt tih hlangboel rhoek boeih khuikah hlangcim rhoek vanbangla rhoepnah la om.
And God is not of dissension, but of peace, just as I also teach in all the churches of the saints.
34 Huta loh hlangboel khuiah a kamkhuem
Women should be silent in the churches. For it is not permitted for them to speak; but instead, they should be subordinate, as the law also says.
35 uh saeh. Amih a thui sak pawt akhaw olkhueng loh a thui van bangla boengai uh saeh.
And if they want to learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church.
36 Te dongah khat khat ni cang ham a ngaih uh atah im ah a va te dawt uh saeh. Hlangboel khuiah ol a thui he huta ham rhaidaeng la om.
So now, did the Word of God proceed from you? Or was it sent to you alone?
37 Nangmih lamkah Pathen kah olka thoeng a? Te pawt atah nangmih taeng bueng nim ham pha?
If anyone seems to be a prophet or a spiritual person, he should understand these things which I am writing to you, that these things are the commandments of the Lord.
38 Khat khat loh tonghma neh mueihla hlang la om ham a poek atah nangmih ham kan daek te Boeipa kah olpaek ni tila ming saeh.
If anyone does not recognize these things, he should not be recognized.
39 Tedae khat khat long ni a mangvawt atah amah ni a mangvawt coeng.
And so, brothers, be zealous to prophesy, and do not prohibit speaking in tongues.
40 Te dongah ka manuca rhoek olphong ham te thahlue sak uh lamtah ol tloe neh thui ham te khaw paa sak boeh. Tedae a cungkuem he aitlaeng bangla tluektluek om saeh.
But let everything be done respectfully and according to proper order.
