The Lord spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting while they were in the Sinai desert. This was on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites had left Egypt. He told him,
2 “Israel ca rhaengpuei boeih hlangmi te amah huiko neh, a napa imkhui ah tongpa boeih kah ming tarhing neh a hlangmi te lo laeh.
“Census all the Israelites according to their tribe and family. Count every man and keep a record of each individual's name.

Those aged twenty or older who can do military service are to be registered by you and Aaron in their Israelite army divisions.

A representative from each tribe, the head of a family, must be there with you.

These are the names of the men who will work with you: From the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, son of Shedeur;

from the tribe of Simeon, Shelumiel, son of Zurishaddai;

from the tribe of Judah, Nahshon, son of Amminadab;

from the tribe of Issachar, Nethanel, son of Zuar;

from the tribe of Zebulun, Eliab, son of Helon;

from the sons of Joseph: from the tribe of Ephraim, Elishama, son of Ammihud, and from the tribe of Manasseh, Gamaliel, son of Pedahzur;
11 Benjamin ah Gideoni capa Abidan,
from the tribe of Benjamin, Abidan, son of Gideoni;
12 Dan ah Ammishaddai capa Ahiezer,
from the tribe of Dan, Ahiezer, son of Ammishaddai;
13 Asher ah Okran capa Pagiel,
from the tribe of Asher, Pagiel, son of Ocran;
14 Gad ah Deuel capa Eliasaph,
from the tribe of Gad, Eliasaph, son of Deuel;
15 Naphtali ah Enan capa Ahira Enan saeh,” a ti nah.

These were the men chosen from the Israelite community. They were the leaders of their fathers' tribes; the heads of the families of Israel.

Moses and Aaron summoned these men who had been selected by name.

These were the totals of the men counted and registered by Moses and Aaron, with the help of the twelve leaders of Israel, who each represented their family.

In this way all the Israelite men aged twenty or older who were able to serve in Israel's army were registered according to their families.
46 Te vaengkah a soep boeih te thawng ya rhuk neh thawng thum neh ya nga neh sawmnga lo uh.
The sum total of those registered was 603,550.
47 Tedae Levi te tah a napa koca lamloh amih lakli ah ana soep uh thil pawh.
However, the Levites were not registered with the others according to their tribe and families.
48 BOEIPA loh Moses te a voek tih,
This was because the Lord had told Moses,
49 “Levi koca bueng tah soep thil boel lamtah amih khuikah a lu te Israel ca khui la khuen boeh.
“Don't register the tribe of Levi; don't count them in the census with the other Israelites.
50 Tedae namah loh Levi te laipainah dungtlungim so neh a hnopai cungkuem so neh a taengkah a cungkuem soah khueh. Amih loh dungtlungim neh a hnopai boeih te kawt uh saeh. Amih te thotat uh saeh lamtah dungtlungim taengah pin rhaeh uh saeh.
Put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle and of the Testimony, as well as all its furniture and everything it contains. They are the ones responsible for carrying the Tabernacle and all its items. They are to care for it, and to make their camp around it.
51 Dungtlungim te khuen ham vaengah te te Levi rhoek loh suntlak puei saeh. Dungtlungim a rhaeh ham vaengah khaw te te Levi rhoek loh thoh uh saeh. Tedae hlangthawt loh a paan atah duek saeh.
When it's time to move the Tabernacle, the Levites shall take it down, and when it's time to make camp, the Levites shall put it up. Any outsider who goes near it must be put to death.
52 Israel ca khuikah hlang he amah kah rhaehhmuen ah rhaeh saeh lamtah hlang he amah caempuei kah a hnitai neh om saeh.
The Israelites are to make camp according to their tribal divisions, each person in their own camp under their own flag.
53 Te vaengah Levi rhoek tah laipainah dungtlungim kaepah rhaeh uh saeh. Te daengah ni thinhulnah loh Israel ca rhaengpuei soah a tlak pawt eh. Te dongah laipainah dungtlungim kah tuemkoi te Levi rhoek loh ngaithuen uh saeh.
But the Levites are to set up their camp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony to stop anyone making me angry with the Israelites. The Levites are responsible for looking after the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”
54 Israel ca rhoek loh a saii uh vaengah BOEIPA loh Moses a uen bangla a cungkuem te a saii uh.
The Israelites did everything that the Lord ordered Moses that they should do.
