< Nehemiah 13 >

1 Te khohnin ah Moses cabu khuikah te pilnam kah a hna ah a tae pah. Te vaengah cabu khuiah te Ammoni neh Moab tah kumhal due Pathen kah hlangping khuila kun sak pawt ham a daek te a hmuh.
In that day they read in the book of Moses in the ears of the people; and it was found written in it, that the Ammonites and Moabites should not enter into the congregation of God for ever;
2 Israel ca rhoek te buh neh, tui neh a doe uh pawt bueng kolla Israel te thaephoei thil ham Balaam te a paang uh. Tedae kaimih kah Pathen loh rhunkhuennah te yoethennah la a poeh sak.
because they met not the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them: but our God turned the curse into a blessing.
3 Olkhueng te a yaak van neh namcom boeih tah Israel taeng lamloh a hoep uh.
And it came to pass, when they heard the law, that they were separated, [even] every alien in Israel.
4 Te hlan vaengah khosoih Eliashib te Tobiah neh a yoei la kaimih kah Pathen im kah imkhan ah a khueh.
And before this time Eliasib the priest lived in the treasury of the house of our God, connected with Tobias;
5 Anih ham te imkhan a len a saii pah. Te dongah a hmai ah khocang, hmueihtui, hnopai, parha pakhat, cangpai, misur thai neh situi khaw, Levi rhoek kah olpaek khaw, laa sa rhoek khaw, thoh tawt rhoek neh khosoih rhoek kah khosaa aka pae khaw pahoi om uh.
and he made himself a great treasury, and there they were formerly in the habit of bestowing the offerings, and the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithe of the corn, and the wine, and the oil, the ordered portion of the Levites, and singers, and porters; and the first fruits of the priests.
6 Te vaeng rhuet te Jerusalem ah ka om moenih. Babylon manghai Artaxerxes kah sawmthum kum nit daengah ni manghai taengla ka mael tih khohnin a thoknah te manghai taengah ka bih.
But in all this [time] I was not in Jerusalem; for in the thirty-second year of Arthasastha king of Babylon I came to the king, and after a certain time I made my request of the king;
7 Tedae Jerusalem la ka mael vaengah tah Eliashib loh Tobiah ham boethae a saii te ka yakming. Anih ham te Pathen im kah vongup khuiah khai a saii pah.
and I came to Jerusalem, and I understood the mischief which Eliasib had done in the case of Tobias, in making for him a treasury in the court of the house of God.
8 Te lalah kai he muep n'noih dongah Tobiah im kah hnopai boeih te imkhan lamloh poeng la ka voeih pah.
And it appeared very evil to me: so I cast forth all the furniture of the house of Tobias from the treasury.
9 Ka thui bangla imkhan te a caihcil uh phoeiah ni Pathen im kah hnopai te khaw khocang hmueihtui neh ka mael pueng.
And I gave orders, and they purified the treasuries: and I restored there the vessels of the house of God, [and] the offerings, and the frankincense.
10 Levi rhoek buham a moe pawt te khaw ka ming. Te vaengah Levi khaw, laa sa rhoek khaw, bitat aka saii rhoek khaw amah khohmuen la rhip yong uh.
And I understood that the portion of the Levites had not been given: and they had fled every one to his field, the Levites and the singers doing the work.
11 Te dongah ukkung rhoek te ka ho tih, “Pathen im ke balae tih a hnoo?” ka ti nah. Te phoeiah amih te ka coi tih amah paihmuen ah ka pai sak.
And I strove with the commanders, and said, Therefore has the house of God been abandoned? and I assembled them, and set them in their place.
12 Te daengah Judah pum loh parha pakhat, cangpai, misur thai neh situi khaw thakvoh khuila a pawk puei uh.
And all Juda brought a tithe of the wheat and the wine and the oil into the treasuries,
13 Thakvoh rhoek te khosoih Shelemiah, cadaek Zadok neh Levi lamkah Pedaiah taengah ka kael sak. Amih kut hmuikah Mattaniah koca Zakkuur capa Hanan tah uepom la a moeh uh dongah amih taengah a manuca rhoek ham boe aka soep la ka khueh.
to the charge of Selemia the priest, and Sadoc the scribe, and Phadaea of the Levites: and next to them [was] Anan the son of Zacchur, son of Matthanias; for they were accounted faithful: [it was] their office to distribute to their brethren.
14 Ka Pathen aw he ham he kai m'poek lah. Ka Pathen im ham neh a rhaltawt rhoek ham ka saii vanbangla ka sitlohnah te na khoe moenih.
Remember me, O God, in this, and let not my kindness be forgotten which I have wrought in [regard to] the house of the Lord God.
15 Amih tue vaengah Judah khui lamloh Sabbath ah misur rhom aka pok, canghlom aka puen, laak dongah aka tloeng khaw ka hmuh. Te vaengah misurtui, misurthaih, thaibu, hnorhih cungkuem khaw Sabbath hnin ah Jerusalem la a khuen uh. Te dongah amih kah sakah a yoih uh hnin ah tah ka rhalrhing sak.
In those days I saw in Juda [men] treading wine presses on the sabbath, and carrying sheaves, and loading asses with both wine, and grapes, and figs, and every [kind of] burden, and bringing them into Jerusalem on the sabbath-day:
16 A khuiah nga neh aka phu boeih aka khuen tih Sabbath vaengah Judah koca rhoek taeng neh Jerusalem ah aka yoi Tyre rhoek loh kho a sak uh.
and I testified in the day of their sale. Also their lived in it [men] bringing fish, and selling every [kind of] merchandise to the children of Juda and in Jerusalem on the sabbath.
17 Te dongah Judah hlangcoelh rhoek te ka ho tih amih te, “Balae tih boethae hno na saii neh Sabbath hnin na poeih uh.
And I strove with the free children of Juda, and said to them, What [is] this evil thing which you do, and profane the sabbath-day?
18 Na pa rhoek loh he he a saii uh moenih a? Te dongah ni mamih kah Pathen loh mamih soah neh khopuei soah he yoethae cungkuem a pai sak. Nangmih loh Sabbath na poeih tih Israel te thinsa na koei uh coeng,” ka ti nah.
Did not your fathers thus, and our God brought upon them and upon us and upon this city all these evils? and do you bring additional wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath?
19 Te dongah Sabbath hlan kah Jerusalem vongka a khup nen tah ka ti nah bangla thohkhaih rhoek a khaih uh. Te vaengah Sabbath a poeng hil a ong uh pawt ham ka thui pah. Ka tueihyoeih rhoek te vongka ah ka pai sak tih Sabbath hnin ah hnorhih puen uh voel pawh.
And it came to pass, when the gates were set up in Jerusalem, before the sabbath, that I spoke, and they shut the gates; and I gave orders that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and I set [some] of my servants at the gates, that none should bring [in] burdens on the sabbath-day.
20 Te dongah thenpom rhoek neh hnoyoih cungkuem aka yoi rhoek tah Jerusalem kah vongvoel ah vai khaw hnavoei khaw rhaeh uh.
So all [the merchants] lodged, and carried on traffic without Jerusalem once or twice.
21 Tedae amih te ka rhalrhing sak tih amamih taengah khaw, “Balae tih vongtung kaep ah na rhaeh uh? Nangmih soah kut kan hlah vetih na talh uh ve saw,” ka ti nah. Te khohnin lamlong tah Sabbath ah mop uh pawh.
Then I testified against them, and said to them, Why do you lodge in front of the wall? if you do so again, I will stretch out my hand upon you. From that time they came not on the sabbath.
22 Te phoeiah Levi rhoek te khaw a caihcil la om ham, vongka ngaithuen ham aka pawk khaw Sabbath hnin te ciim ham khaw ka uen. Te dongah ka Pathen aw kai he m'poek lamtah na sitlohnah loh a cungkuem vanbangla kai he n'rhen lah.
and I told the Levites who were purifying themselves, and came and kept the gates, that they should sanctify the sabbath-day. Remember me, O God, for these things, and spare me according to the abundance of your mercy.
23 Te vaeng hnin ah pataeng Judah rhoek loh Ashodi, Ammoni, Moab nu rhoek neh kho a sak uh te ka hmuh.
And in those days I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, [and] of Moab:
24 A ca rhoek khaw rhakthuem Ashodi ol la cal uh tih amih te pilnam neh pilnam pataeng Judah ol la a voek ham hmat uh pawh.
and their children spoke half in the language of Ashdod, and did not know how to speak in the Jewish language.
And I strove with them and cursed them; and I struck some of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, [saying, ]You shall not give your daughters to their sons, and you shall not take of their daughters to your sons.
26 Israel manghai Solomon khaw he nen he a tholh moenih a? Namtom te yet lakli ah anih bang manghai a om moenih. A Pathen loh a lungnah la a om dongah anih te Pathen loh Israel boeih soah manghai la a khueh lalah anih te kholong nu rhoek loh a tholh sak.
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin thus? though there was no king like him among many nations, and he was beloved of God, and God made him king over all Israel; yet strange women turned him aside.
27 He boethae duet boeih saii ham, mamih Pathen taengah boekoek ham, kholong nu neh khosak ham a nangmih kawng khaw ka yaak eh?
So we will not listen to you to do all this evil, to break covenant with our God, —to marry strange wives.
28 Te dongah khosoih len Eliashib capa Joiada koca lamkah Khoroni Sanballat kah a cava khaw ka taeng lamloh ka yong sak.
and Elisub the high priest, [one] of the sons of Joada, [being] son-in-law of Sanaballat the Uranite, I chased him away from me.
29 Ka Pathen aw amih te poek lah. A khosoihbi khaw, a khosoihbi neh Levi paipi khaw a noknah.
Remember them, O God, for their [false] connection with the priesthood, and [the breaking] the covenant of the priesthood, and [for defiling] the Levites.
30 Amih te kholong boeih taeng lamloh ka caihcil tih hamsum te khosoih la, Levi la a bitat dongah rhip ka pai sak.
So I purged them from all foreign connection, and established courses for the priests and the Levites, [every] man according to his work.
31 A tue a caeng vaengkah nawnnah thing ham neh thaihcuek ham khaw, Pathen aw ka taengkah he ka hnothen la poek mai.
And the offering of the wood-bearers [was] at certain set times, and in the [times of the] first fruits. Remember me, O our God, for good.
