< Matthai 5 >

1 A hmuh neh hlangping taengah tlang la luei tih a ngol vaengah anih te a hnukbang rhoek loh a paan uh.
On seeing the crowds of People, Jesus went up the hill; and, when he had taken his seat, his disciples came up to him;
2 Te vaengah a ka a ong tih amih a thuituen.
and he began to teach them as follows:
3 Mueihla khodaeng rhoek tah a yoethen uh, vaan ram te amih kah la om.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
4 Aka nguek rhoek tah a yoethen uh, amih te a hloep uh ni.
Blessed are the mourners, for they shall be comforted.
5 Muelhtuet rhoek tah a yoethen uh, amih long ni diklai a pang eh.
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Duengnah te aka hal tih aka pong rhoek tah a yoethen uh, amih tah hah uh ni.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 Hlang aka rhen rhoek tah a yoethen uh, amih te a rhen uh ni.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall find mercy.
8 thinko aka caih rhoek tah a yoethen uh, amih long ni Pathen te a hmuh eh.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called Sons of God.
10 Duengnah kongah a hnaemtaek rhoek tah a yoethen uh, vaan ram te amih kah ni.
Blessed are those who have been persecuted in the cause of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
11 Kai kongah nangmih te thuithet tih, hnaemtaek tih laithaethui rhoek loh nangmih soah a thae la boeih n' thui uh vaengah na yoethenuh.
Blessed are you when people taunt you, and persecute you, and say everything evil about you — untruly, and on my account.
12 “Omngaih uh lamtah hlampan uh. Vaan ah nangmih kah thapang muep om. Nangmih hlankah tonghma rhoek khaw a hnaemtaek uh rhoe.
Be glad and rejoice, because your reward in Heaven will be great; for so men persecuted the Prophets who lived before you.
Tedae lungkaeh he a dap atah, ba nen lae a al sak eh? Phawn a voeih tih hlang loh a taelh pawt atah coeng voel pawh.
It is you who are the salt of the earth; but, if the salt should lose its strength, what will you use to restore its saltiness? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown away, and trampled underfoot.
Tlang soah a thoong khopuei tah khuup thai tlaih pawh.
It is you who are the Light of the world. A town that stands on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Hmaiim te a tok uh tih voh hmuiah a khueh uh moenih. Hmaitung soah ni a khueh tih im khuikah rhoek te boeih a tue.
Men do not light a lamp and put it under the corn-measure, but on the lamp-stand, where it gives light to every one in the house.
16 Nangmih kah vangnah khaw hlang hmaiah sae tangloeng saeh.
Let your light so shine before the eyes of your fellow men, that, seeing your good actions, they may praise your Father who is in Heaven.
17 Olkhueng neh tonghma rhoek ol he phae hamla ka lo tila poek uh boeh, phae ham pawt tih soep sak ham ni ka lo.
Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to do away with them, but to complete them.
18 Nangmih taengah rhep kan thui, diklai neh vaan a khum hlan khuiah, olkhueng te boeih a soep hlan khuiah, catham khat neh a dek khat pataeng hmata mahpawh.
For I tell you, until the heavens and the earth disappear, not even the smallest letter, nor one stroke of a letter, shall disappear from the Law until all is done.
19 Te dongah he rhoek kah olpaek rhoek a diknoi khat ca khaw a phae tangkhuet tih hlang aka thuituen te tah vaan ram ah a dikhnawn la a khue ni. Tedae olpaek bangla a saii tih aka thuituen te tah vaan ram ah tanglue la a khue ni.
Whoever, therefore, breaks one of these commandments, even the least of them, and teaches others to do so, will be the least-esteemed in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever keeps them, and teaches others to do so, will be esteemed great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Indeed I tell you that, unless your religion is above that of the Teachers of the Law, and Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
You have heard that to our ancestors it was said — ‘Thou shalt not commit murder,’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to answer for it to the Court.’
22 Tedae nangmih taengah kan thui, a manuca taengah kosi aka hong boeih tah laitloeknah om kuekluek saeh, a manuca te hlangyoe aka ti nah te khaw khoboei taengla pha kuekluek saeh. Hlang ang la aka thui te khaw hell hmai la pha kuekluek saeh. (Geenna g1067)
I, however, say to you that any one who cherishes anger against his brother shall be liable to answer for it to the Court; and whoever pours contempt upon his brother shall be liable to answer for it to the High Council, while whoever calls down curses upon him shall be liable to answer for it in the fiery Pit. (Geenna g1067)
Therefore, when presenting your gift at the altar, if even there you remember that your brother has some grievance against you,
leave your gift there, before the altar, go and be reconciled to your brother, first, then come and present your gift.
25 Longpueng ah amah neh na om li vaengah a loe la na kocaelh te ko a hlawt ham saii laeh. Namah te kocaelh loh laitloekkung taengla n'thak ve. Te vaengah laitloekkung loh tueihyoeih taengla n'thak vetih thongim la n'hla ve.
Be ready to make friends with your opponent, even when you meet him on your way to the court; for fear that he should hand you over to the judge, and the judge to his officer, and you should be thrown into prison.
I tell you, you will not come out until you have paid the last penny.
27 Samphaih boeh a ti te na yaak uh coeng.
You have heard that it was said — ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery.’
28 Tedae nangmih taengah ka thui. Huta te a hue neh aka dan boeih tah, a thinko ah a samphaih puei oepsoeh coeng.
I, however, say to you that any one who looks at a woman with an impure intention has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
(Geenna g1067)
If your right eye is a snare to you, take it out and throw it away. It would be best for you to lose one part of your body, and not to have the whole of it thrown into the Pit. (Geenna g1067)
Na pumrho dongkah pakhat a poci te nang hamla then ngai. (Geenna g1067)
And, if your right hand is a snare to you, cut it off and throw it away. It would be best for you to lose one part of your body, and not to have the whole of it go down to the Pit. (Geenna g1067)
31 “A yuu aka hla loh yuhlaknah te a yuu taengah pae saeh,” a ti.
It was also said — ‘Let any one who divorces his wife serve her with a notice of separation.’
32 Tedae nangmih taengah kan thui coeng. Cukhalnah olka voel ah a yuu aka hla boeih loh a yuu te samphaih sak ham a saii.
I, however, say to you that any one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of her unchastity, leads to her committing adultery; while any one who marries her after her divorce is guilty of adultery.
Again, you have heard that to our ancestors it was said — ‘Thou shalt not break an oath, but thou shall keep thine oaths as a debt due to the Lord.’
34 Tedae nangmih taengah toemngam loengloeng boeh ka ti. Vaan nen khaw toemngam boeh. Te tah Pathen kah ngolkhoel ni.
I, however, say to you that you must not swear at all, either by Heaven, since that is God’s throne,
35 Diklai nen khaw toemngam boeh. Te tah amah kah kho kah khotloeng ni. Jerusalem nen khaw toemngam boeh, te tah manghai boei kah khopuei ni.
or by the earth, since that is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the Great King.
36 Na lu nen khaw toemngam boeh. Sam pakhat pataeng a bok neh a muem la na saii thai moenih.
Nor should you swear by your head, since you cannot make a single hair either white or black.
Tedae he rhoek kah a pueh tah a thae hno lamkah aka thoeng hno ni.
Let your words be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from what is wrong.
38 “Mik ham te mik, no ham te no,” a ti te na yaak uh coeng.
You have heard that it was said — ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’
39 Nangmih taengah kan thui, a thae te kamkaih boeh, tedae bantang kah na kamrhuh aka bael te pakhat ben khaw a taengla hooi pah.
I, however, say to you that you must not resist wrong; but, if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him also;
40 Nang toe ham neh na angki loh aka ngaih te himbai khaw hlah pah thil.
and, when any one wants to go to law with you, to take your coat, let him have your cloak as well;
41 Nang meng khat aka tanolh te, amah te meng nit khaw caeh puei.
and, if any one compels you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 Nang taengah aka bih te pae. Nang taengah puu hamla aka ngaih te khaw bal sak boeh.
Give to him who asks of you; and, from him who wants to borrow from you, do not turn away.
You have heard that it was said — ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thy enemy.’
I, however, say to you — Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,
45 Te daengah ni vaan ah na Pa kah a ca rhoek la na om uh eh. Amah kah khomik te a thae neh a then boeih soah a thoeng sak tih, aka dueng khaw, halang khaw rhotui neh a sul thil.
that you may become Sons of your Father who is in Heaven; for he causes his sun to rise upon bad and good alike, and sends rain upon the righteous and upon the unrighteous.
Mangmucoi rhoek long pataeng te te a saii uh van moenih a?
For, if you love only those who love you, what reward will you have? Even the tax-gatherers do this!
47 Na manuca bueng na toidal uh koinih balae a pueh na saii uh tloe, namtom rhoek long khaw te te a saii uh moenih a?
And, if you show courtesy to your brothers only, what are you doing more than others? Even the Gentiles do this!
You, then, must become perfect — as your heavenly Father is perfect.
