1 Manghai Herod tue vaengah Jesuh tah Judah ram Bethlehem ah thang, te vaengah khothoeng ben lamkah kholo hlangcueih rhoek Jerusalem la ha pawk uh.
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
2 “Judah manghai aka thaang te melam a om? Anih kah aisi te khothoeng ben ah ka hmuh uh tih, anih bawk hamla ka pawk uh coeng,” a ti uh.
“Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”
3 Manghai Herod loh a yaak vaengah amah khaw, Jerusalem khaw boeih a hinghuen.
When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 Khosoihham rhoek neh pilnam khuikah cadaek rhoek te boeih a coi tih me kah Khrih nim aka thaang,” a ti nah.
Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.
5 “Judea Bethlehem ah,” tila tonghma rhoek loh a daek te a a thui pa uh.
They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,
6 “Judah ram kah Bethlehem nang ngawn tah Judah khoboei rhoek khuiah a yit la na om moenih. Nang lamloh hlang aka mawt ha thoeng ni. Anih loh ka pilnam Israel te a dawndah ni.
‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least amongst the princes of Judah; for out of you shall come a governor who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’”
7 Herod loh kholo hlangcueih rhoek te a huep la a khue tih aisi a phoe tue te amih taengah a cae.
Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learnt from them exactly what time the star appeared.
8 Te phoeiah Bethlehem la a tueih tih, “Cet uh lamtah camoe kawng te khaeh khaeh dawt uh, na hmuh uh vaengah kai taengla, ha puen uh, te daengah ni ka lo vetih anih te ka bawk eh,” a ti nah.
He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”
9 Manghai ol te a yaak uh nen tah vik cet uh. Te daengah khothoeng ah aisi te lawt a hmuh uh. Te dongah amih te camoe om nah a pha hil a lamhma pah tih a soah a pai pah.
They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them until it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 Aisi te a hmuh uh vaengah omngaihnah neha nah la bahoeng omngaih uh.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11 Im la a pha uh vaengah camoe neh a manu Mary te a hmuh uh dongah bakop doe ah a bawk uh. Te phoeiah a khohrhang te a ong uh tih a kutdoe la sui, hmueihtui neh myrrh te a paek uh.
They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 Tedae Herod taengah bal pawt ham a mang ah a mangthui pa tih a kho la a tloe longpuei longah bal uh.
Being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.
13 Amih a caeh uh phoeiah Boeipa kah puencawn loh Joseph mang ah pakcak phoe tih, “Thoo, camoe neh a manu te lo, Egypt la rhaelrham laeh, nang taengah kan thui hlan duela pahoi om laeh. Herod loh camoe te poci sak hamla cai tih a toem coeng,” a ti nah.
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”
14 Te dongah thoo tih camoe neh a manu te khoyin ah a loh tih, Egypt la cet.
He arose and took the young child and his mother by night and departed into Egypt,
15 Te dongah Herod kah a dueknah rhi hil pahoi om. Te nen ni BOEIPA kah tonghma lamloh a thui tih, “Ka capa te Egypt lamkah ka khue,” a ti te a soep.
and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
16 Te vaengah Herod loh kholo hlangcueih kah a tamdaeng te a ming tih bahoeng a thinhul. A tue te kholo hlangcueih taeng lamloh a cae vanbangla Bethlehem khui neh a vaang pum khuikah hlang a tueih tih camoe kum nit hmui te boeih a ngawn.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learnt from the wise men.
17 Te vaengah tonghma Jeremiah lamloh a thui tih,
Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
18 Rhama ah ol a yaak. Rhahnah neh nguekcoinah loh yet. Rakhel loh a ca rhoek te a rhah. Tedae a om uh voel pawt dongah a hloep te ngaih pawh,” a ti te soep.
“A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn’t be comforted, because they are no more.”
19 Herod a duek phoeiah, Boeipa kah puencawn tah Egypt kah Joseph mang ah pakcak phoe tih,
But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
20 “Thoo, camoe neh a manu te lo lamtah Israel kho la cet laeh, camoe kah hinglu aka mae rhoek tah duek uh coeng,” a ti nah.
“Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.”
21 Te dongah thoo tih camoe neh a manu te a khuen tih, Israel kho la a kun puei.
He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 Tedae Arkhelas loh a napa Herod yueng la Judea te a uk tila a yaak tih tela caeh ham a rhih. Te cakhaw mang ah a mangthui pah bangla Galilee pingpang la cet.
But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,
23 Te phoeiah Nazareth la a khue khopuei la cet tih kho a sak. Te tlam ni tonghma rhoek lamloh, “Nazaren la a khue ni,” a ti te a soep eh.
and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets that he will be called a Nazarene.
