1 Khosoihham rhoek, patong rhoek, cadaekrhoek neh khoboei pum loh dawtletnah yueya tleka saii uh. Jesuh tea khih uh phoeiah a khuen uh tih Pilat taengah a thak uh.
As soon as it was daylight, the Chief Priests, after holding a consultation with the Councillors and Teachers of the Law — that is to say, the whole High Council — put Jesus in chains, and took him away, and gave him up to Pilate.
2 Te vaengah Pilat loh Jesuh te, “Judahrhoek kah manghai la na om a? tila a dawt. Tedae Jesuh loh anih te a doo tih, “Namah long ni na ti,” a ti nah.
“Are you the King of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “It is true,” replied Jesus.
3 Khosoihhamrhoek long khaw Jesuh te tholh muepa paelnaeh uh.
Then the Chief Priests brought a number of charges against him;
4 Te dongah Pilat loh Jesuhte koepa dawt tih, “Nang muep m'paelnaeh uh ke khat khaw na doo mahpawt nim? a ti nah.
upon which Pilate questioned Jesus again. “Have you no reply to make?” he asked. “Listen, how many charges they are bringing against you.”
5 Tedae Jesuh loha doo voel pawt dongah Pilat tea ngaihmang.
But Jesus still made no reply whatever; at which Pilate was astonished.
6 Te vaengkah khotue takuem ah thongtla pakhat te a hoep tih ana hlah pah.
Now, at the Feast, Pilate used to grant the people the release of any one prisoner whom they might ask for.
7 Te dongah rhalthoh rhoek neh a khoh Barabbas a ti te om. Anih loh olpungnah dongah ngawnnah a saii.
A man called Barabbas was in prison, with the rioters who had committed murder during a riot.
8 Hlangping te khaw cet uh tih a saii noek la amamih ham koea bih uh.
So, when the crowd went up and began to ask Pilate to follow his usual custom,
9 Tedae Pilat loh amih te a doo tih, “Na ngaih uh nim, Judah manghai he nangmih ham kan hlah mako?” a ti nah.
he answered: “Do you want me to release the ‘King of the Jews’ for you?”
10 Uethnetnah dongah khosoihhamrhoek loh anih taengla a voeih uh tea ming.
For he was aware that it was out of jealousy that the Chief Priests had given Jesus up to him.
11 Tedae khosoihhamrhoek loh hlangping tea huehtih Barabbas te amih ham lata hlah sak.
But the Chief Priests incited the crowd to get Barabbas released instead.
12 Te dongah Pilat loh amih te a doo tih, “Te koinih Judah manghai la na khue uh te metla ka saii ham lae na ngaih uh?” koepa ti nah.
Pilate, however, spoke to them again: “What shall I do then with the man whom you call the ‘King of the Jews’?”
13 Te rhoek loh, “Anihte tai laeh,” tila koep pang uh.
Again they shouted: “Crucify him!”
14 Tedae Pilat loh amih taengah, “Mebang boethae nim a saii?” a ti nah. Amih long khaw, “Anihte tai laeh,” tila bung pang uh.
“Why, what harm has he done?” Pilate kept saying to them. But they shouted furiously: “Crucify him!”
15 Pilat loh hlangping kolo la saiia ngaih dongah amih ham Barabbas tea hlah pah. Tedae Jesuh tea tamtih tai hama paek.
And Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them, and, after scourging Jesus, gave him up to be crucified.
16 Te phoeiah rhalkap rhoek loh Jesuhte khoboeiyunga om nah vongup khuilaa khuen uh tih caem tea pumlaa hueh uh.
The soldiers then took Jesus away into the court-yard — that is the Government House — and they called the whole garrison together.
17 Te phoeiah Jesuhte daidi neh a khuk uh tih hling rhuisama vaeh uh te a khuem sakuh.
They dressed him in a purple robe, and, having twisted a crown of thorns, put it on him,
18 Te phoeiah, “Judahrhoek kah manghaina sading saeh,” tila Jesuhte kut koe a tuukuh.
and then began to salute him. “Long life to you, King of the Jews!” they said.
19 Te phoeiah a lu te capu neh a boh uh tiha timthoeih uh. Khuklu te khaw cungkueng uh tih Jesuh te a bawk uh.
And they kept striking him on the head with a rod, spitting at him, and bowing to the ground before him — going down on their knees;
20 Jesuh te a tamdaeng uh phoeiah daidi te a pit pauh. Te phoeiah a himbai te a bai sak uh tih tai hamla a khuen uh.
and, when they had left off mocking him, they took off the purple robe, and put his own clothes on him.
21 Te vaengah Kurena hlang Alexander neh Rufus kah a napa Simon lohma lamkah ha pawk tih pal khum rhoi dae Jesuh kah thinglam te koh sak ham khak a tanolh uh.
And they led Jesus out to crucify him; and they compelled a passer-by, Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them to carry his cross.
22 Te phoeiah Jesuhte Golgotha hmuen laa khuen uh. Tekahte lurhuh hmuen nia thuingaih.
They brought Jesus to the place which was known as Golgotha — a name which means ‘Place of a Skull.’
23 Te vaengah myrrh misurtuite Jesuha paek uh dae doe pawh.
There they offered him drugged wine; but Jesus refused it.
24 Jesuh te a tai uh phoeiah a himbai te a phen pa uh tih amamih khat khat loh a khuen ham te hmulung a naan uh.
Then they crucified him, and divided his clothes among them, casting lots for them, to settle what each should take.
25 Khonoek pathum a lo vaengah Jesuh te a tai uh.
It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.
26 Te phoeiah a paelnaehnah ming tea daek tih,” Judah Manghai,” laa khueh pah.
The words of the charge against him, written up over his head, ran thus — ‘THE KING OF THE JEWS.’
27 Anih neh dingca panitte khaw bantang ah pakhat banvoei ah pakhata tai uh.
And with him they crucified two robbers, one on the right, and the other on the left.
28 Aka van paitai loh anih te a soehsal uh tih a lu a hinghuen uh.
29 Te vaengah, “Aw bawkim te aka phae tih hnin thum ah aka sa,
The passers-by railed at him, shaking their heads, as they said: “Ah! you who would destroy the Temple and build one in three days,
30 Namahte khang uh lamtah thinglam lamkah rhum lah,” a ti na uh.
come down from the cross and save yourself!”
31 Khosoihham rhoek neh cadaek rhoek van long khaw a tamdaeng uh tih khat khat taengah, “A tloerhoek te a khang dae amah aka khang uh thai pawh.
In the same way the Chief Priests, with the Teachers of the Law, said to one another in mockery:
32 Israel manghai Khrih thinglam lamkah rhum laeh, te daengah ni kan hmuh uh vetih kan tangnah u eh,” a ti nauh. A taengkah a tai uh long khaw Jesuh te a thuithet.
“He saved others, but he cannot save himself! Let the Christ, the ‘King of Israel,’ come down from the cross now, that we may see it and believe.” Even the men who had been crucified with Jesus reviled him.
33 Khonoek parhuk a pha neh diklai pum ah yinnah loh khonoek pako duela a thing.
At midday, a darkness came over the whole country, lasting till three in the afternoon.
34 Khovang khonoek pako vaengah Jesuh tah, “Eloi, Eloi lama sabakhthani?” tila a ola len la pang. Te tah, “Ka Pathen, Ka Pathen, balae tih kai nan phap,” te nia thuingaih.
And, at three, Jesus called out loudly: ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabacthani?’” which means ‘My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?’
35 Te vaengah a taengkah aka pai khuikah a ngen loh a yaak uh tih, “Elijah a khue ke,” a ti uh.
Some of those standing round heard this, and said: “Listen! He is calling for Elijah!”
36 Hlang pakhat aka yong loh caethum te yuthui neh a sul tih cungkui dongah a kaek. Te phoeiah Jesuh te a tul tih, “Hlah uh lamtah so uh lah sih, anih aka hla la Elijah ha pawk venim,” a ti.
And a man ran, and, soaking a sponge in common wine, put it on the end of a rod, and offered it to him to drink, saying as he did so: “Wait and let us see if Elijah is coming to take him down.”
37 Te phoeiah Jesuh loh ol a lenla a huel tih pat.
But Jesus, giving a loud cry, expired.
38 Te vaengah bawkim kah hniyan tea soi lamloha hmui due panit la pawn.
The Temple curtain was torn in two from top to bottom.
39 Anih hmai ah aka pai rhalboei long khaw a pat te a hmuh vaengah, “Hekah hlang tah Pathen Capa rhep ni,” a ti.
The Roman Officer, who was standing facing Jesus, on seeing the way in which he expired, exclaimed: “This man must indeed have been ‘God’s Son’!”
40 Te vaengah a hla lamkah aka dan huta rhoek khaw om uh. Amih khuiah Magadala Mary, a noe James neh Joses manu Mary neh Salome khaw om.
There were some women also watching from a distance, among them being Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James the Little and of Joseph, and Salome —
41 Amih tah Galilee ah a om vaeng lamkah loh Jesuh te a vai uh tih a khut uh. Te phoeiah a tloe, amah neh Jerusalem la aka luei rhoek khaw muep omuh.
all of whom used to accompany Jesus when he was in Galilee, and attend on him — besides many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.
42 Te phoeiah hlaema pha coengtih rhuengphongnah om. Te dongah te tah huetnah la om.
The evening had already fallen, when, as it was the Preparation Day — the day before the Sabbath —
43 Te vaengah Arimathea lamkah khoboei hlangcong Joseph te ha pawk. Anih tah amah long khaw Pathen kah ram te aka lamtawn la om. Pilat taengah ngaingaih la cet tih Jesuh kah rhok te a bih.
Joseph from Ramah, a Councillor of good position, who was himself living in expectation of the Kingdom of God, came and ventured to go in to see Pilate, and to ask for the body of Jesus.
44 Jesuh a duek tarha te Pilat khawa ngaihmang. Te dongah rhalboei tea khue tih, “Duek dingrhae pawn nim ca,” tila a dawt.
But Pilate was surprised to hear that he had already died. So he sent for the Officer, and asked if he were already dead;
45 Rhalboei lamkah tea mingpha daengah rhok te Josepha paek.
and, on learning from the Officer that it was so, he gave the corpse to Joseph.
46 Te vaengah a himbai lai neh a hlak. Himbai tea yen phoeiah anih te hlan aha khueh. Te tah lungpang dongaha thuk tangtae la om. Te phoeiah tah hlan rhai te lungtoa paluet thil.
Joseph, having bought a linen sheet, took Jesus down, and wound the sheet round him, and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of the rock; and then rolled a stone up against the entrance of the tomb.
47 Magadala Mary neh Joses manu Mary long khaw a khueh nah te a hmuh.
Mary of Magdala and Mary, the mother of Joseph, were watching to see where he was laid.
