Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to draw up a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled among us,
2 oltak kah tueihyoeih la aka om rhoek neh a tongcuek lamloh loh aka hmu rhep rhoek loh mamih taengah m'paek uh vanbangla,
even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word,
3 kai khaw khaeh khaeh boeih ka thuep koep tih hlangcong Theophilu nang taengah daek ham tluep ka poek.
it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus;
4 Te daengah ni hiluepnah ol loh n'thuituen te khaw na ming eh.
that thou mightest know the certainty concerning the things wherein thou wast instructed.
5 Judea manghai Herod tue vaeng ah, Abijah rhoihui khosoih pakhat, a ming ah Zekhariah te om tih Elizabeth aka ming nah Aaron canu te a yuu nah.
There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah: and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
6 Pathen hmaiah a dueng la bok om rhoi. Boeipa kah rhilam neh olpaek cungkuem dongah cuemthuek la pongpa rhoi.
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7 Tedae Elizabeth tah cakol la om tih camoe a om kolla a kum khaw patong la bok om rhoi coeng.
And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were [now] well stricken in years.
8 Pathen hmaiah a khosoih vaengkah bangla anih rhoihui te aitlaeng loh a pha.
Now it came to pass, while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,
9 Khosoih kah khosing bangla, Boeipa kah bawkim khuiah kun tih hmueihphum ham a yo.
according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
10 Bo-ul tue vaengah pilnam khuikah aka om rhaengpuei boeih khaw poeng ah thangthui uh.
And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the hour of incense.
11 Te vaengah Boeipa kah puencawn tah a taengah a phoe pah tih bo-ul hmueihtuk kah bantang ah pai.
And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 Zekhariah loh a thuen doela a sawt dongah rhihnah loh anih a tlak thil.
And Zacharias was troubled when he saw [him], and fear fell upon him.
13 Tedae anih te puencawn pakhat loh, “Zekhariah rhih boeh, nang kah rhenbihnah te a hnatun coeng dongah na yuu Elizabeth loh nang ham capa pakhat han cun vetih, a ming te Johan la na khue ni.
But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: because thy supplication is heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 Nang ham omngaihnah neh kohoenah la om vetih anih kah rhuirhong dongah boeih omngaih uh ni.
And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 Boeipa hmaiah a len la om vetih, misurtui neh yu te o loengloeng mahpawh. A manu bung khuiah a om vaengah Mueihla Cim neh baetawt ni.
For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
16 Israel ca rhoek te a Boeipa Pathen taengla muep a mael puei ni.
And many of the children of Israel shall he turn unto the Lord their God.
17 Anih tah a hmaiah Elijah kah mueihla neh thaomnah dongah lamhma ni. Pa rhoek kah thinko te ca rhoek taengla, lokhak rhoek te aka dueng lungcueinah dongla mael ni. Rhoekbah tangtae pilnam tah Boeipa ham a hmoel ni,” a ti nah.
And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient [to walk] in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared [for him].
18 Te phoeiah Zekhariah loh puencawn taengah, “Hekah he Ba nen lae ka ming eh? Kai tah patong la ka om coeng tih ka yuu khaw a kum te ham coeng,” a ti nah.
And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
19 Te dongah puencawn loh anih te a doo tih, “Kai tah Pathen hmaiah aka pai Gabriel ni, nang taengah he rhoek he phong ham neh thui ham n'tueih.
And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to bring thee these good tidings.
20 Tedae kai ol te na tangnah pawt dongah he he a soep nah khohnin duela olmueh la na om vetih na cal thai mahpawh ne. Amah tue ah ka ol te soep bit ni,” a ti nah.
And behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall come to pass, because thou believedst not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
21 Te vaengah Zekhariah te aka lamso pilnam a om dongah bawkim khuiah a di te a ngaihmang uh.
And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marveled while he tarried in the temple.
22 Ha thoeng vaengah tah amih te voek thai voel pawh. Te dongah bawkim khuiah a mangthui a hmuh coeng tila a ming uh. Te dongah Zekhriah loh amih taengah a lu a thuk tih olmueh la phat om.
And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: and he continued making signs unto them, and remained dumb.
23 Amah kah thothueng khohnin te a cup la a om phoeiah tah amah im la cet.
And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were fulfilled, he departed unto his house.
24 Te khohnin phoeiah a yuu Elizabeth te vawn tih amah khaw hla nga thuh uh.
And after these days Elisabeth his wife conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying,
25 “Boeipa loh kai ham hnin at neh a saii tangloeng coeng, te nen ni hlang lakliah kai dogkah hnaelnah te khoe hamla n'hip,” a ti.
Thus hath the Lord done unto me in the days wherein he looked upon [me], to take away my reproach among men.
26 Hla rhuk dongah Pathen taeng lamkah puencawn Gabriel te Galilee khopuei, a ming ah Nazareth la a tueih.
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 David imkhui kah hlang pakhat, a ming ah Joseph ham te oila a bae pah. Oila ming tah Mary ni.
to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 Te phoeiah huta taengla kun tih, “A lungvat tangtae aw, omngaih lah, Boeipa tah nang taengah om pai,” a ti nah.
And he came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee.
29 Tedae Mary te tekah olka dongah konglong ngaihit la om tih te toidalnah loh metla a om eh tila a poek.
But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this might be.
30 Puencawn loh anih te, “Mary rhih boeh, Pathen taengkah lungvatnah na dang coeng te.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 Te dongah bungvawn neh na yom tih capa na cun vaengah a ming te Jesuh sui ne.
And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 Anih tah tanglue la om vetih Khohni capa tila a khue ni. Boeipa Pathen loh anih te a napa David kah ngolkhoel te a paek ni.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 Jakob im ah kumhal due manghai pawn ni. A ram te khaw bawt ti om mahpawh,” a ti nah. (aiōn )
and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn )
34 Te vaengah Mary loh puencawn taengah, “Hekah he metlam a om eh? tongpa khaw ka ming moenih,” a ti nah.
And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 Te dongah anih te puencawn loh a doo tih, “Mueihla Cim loh nang n'thoeng thil vetih, Khohni kah thaomnah te nang m'muek sak ni. Te dongah na cun te aka cim Pathen Capa tila a khue bal ni.
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also that which is to be born shall be called holy, the Son of God.
36 Te phoeiah namah huiko Elizabeth te a patong soiah, camoe a yom van coeng ke. Te dongah cakol la a khue te tahae ah hla rhuk lo coeng.
And behold, Elisabeth thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her that was called barren.
37 Pathen kah olka boeih long tah a tloel nah moenih,” a ti nah.
For no word from God shall be void of power.
38 Te dongah Mary loh, “Boeipa kah salnu he, na olka bangla kai taengah om saeh,” a ti nah. Te phoeiah puencawn tah anih taeng lamloh nong.
And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39 Mary tah tekah khohnin ah thoo tih tlang kah Judah kho ah thahluenah neh cet.
And Mary arose in these days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah;
40 Zekhariah im khuiah kun tih Elizabeth te a voek.
and entered into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth.
41 Mary kah toidalnah te Elizabeth loh a yaak vaengah a bung khuikah cahni te soipet tih Elizabeth khaw Mueihla Cim neh baetawt.
And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost;
42 Te vaengah tamlung neh pang khungdaeng tih, “Nang tah huta rhoek lakliah na yoethen coeng tih, nang bung kah a thaih te a yoethen coeng.
and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.
43 Kai aih he metlam nim, ka boeipa kah a manu kai taengla ha pawk tarha he?
And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come unto me?
44 Nang kah toidalnah ol te ka hna khuiah a kun vaengah tah, ka bung khuikah cahni loh kohoenah neh soipet he.
For behold, when the voice of thy salutation came into mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45 Te dongah Boeipa loh a thui te hmakhahnah om ni tila aka tangnah tah a yoethen,” a ti nah.
And blessed [is] she that believed; for there shall be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord.
46 Mary long khaw, “Boeipa te ka hinglu loh a oep.
And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 Ka mueihla tah ka khangkung Pathen dongah hlampan coeng.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 A salnu mathoe he a paelki thil coeng dongah tahae lamkah tah cadil boeih loh kai ng'uem uh pawn ni.
For he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaiden: For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 Kai taengah thaom tloe la a saii dongah, a ming tah cim pai saeh.
For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; And holy is his name.
50 A rhennah tah amah aka rhih rhoek kah cadil cahma ham ni.
And his mercy is unto generations and generations On them that fear him.
51 A ban neh a thaomnah a saii, a thinko kopoek ah buhueng aka pom te a taekyak.
He hath shewed strength with his arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their heart.
52 Mangpa rhoek a ngolkhoel lamloh a hlak tih, tlayae rhoek te a pomsang.
He hath put down princes from [their] thrones, And hath exalted them of low degree.
53 Bungpong rhoek te hno then neh a hah sak tih, khuehtawn rhoek a tlongtlai la a tueih.
The hungry he hath filled with good things; And the rich he hath sent empty away.
54 Boeipa loh a rhennah te anih taengah a khueh tih, a oep te a huiko neh imben loh a yaak vaengah anih te a omngaih puei uh.
He hath holpen Israel his servant, That he might remember mercy
55 A pa rhoek taengah a thui bangla, Abraham neh a tiingan taengah kumhal duela a khueh,” a ti. (aiōn )
(As he spake unto our fathers) Toward Abraham and his seed for ever. (aiōn )
56 Mary te Elizabeth neh hla thum tluk hmaih a naeh phoeiah amah im la bal.
And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned unto her house.
57 Elizabeth te a om tue a pha coeng tih capa a cun.
Now Elisabeth’s time was fulfilled that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
58 Boeipa loh a rhennah te anih taengah a khueh tih, a oep te a huiko neh imben loh a yaak vaengah anih te a omngaih puei uh.
And her neighbours and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her; and they rejoiced with her.
59 Khohnin hnin rhet a lo vaengah camoe te yahvinrhet ham cet uh. Te vaengah anih te a napa ming Zekhariah la a khue uh.
And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60 Tedae a manu loh a doo tih, “Moenih, Johan la a khue ni,” a ti nah.
And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
61 Te vaengah anih taengah, “Hekah ming la a khue te na cako khuiah a om pawt ah,” a ti na uh.
And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
62 Camoe metla khue a ngaih poek tila a napa te a yavaih uh.
And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called.
63 Te vaengah cabael a hoe tih a daek hatah, “A ming tah Johan ni,” a ti tih boeih a ngaihmang uh.
And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marveled all.
64 Te vaengah a hmui, a lai te khaw pahoi a khui pah dongah cal tih Pathen te a uem.
And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue [loosed], and he spake, blessing God.
65 Te vaengah amih tolvael rhoek boeih te rhihnah loh a pai thil. Te dongah hekah olka loh Judah tlang tom te boeih a ngae uh.
And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
66 Aka ya boeih loh a thinko khuiah a dueh uh tih, “Hekah camoe he metlam nim a om ve?” a ti uh. Tedae Boeipa kah kut loh anih te a om puei.
And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 A napa Zekhariah tah Mueihla Cim neh a baetawt.
And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68 Te dongah a olphong neh, “A pilnam te a hip tih tlannah a saii dongah, Israel Pathen Boeipa tah uemom pai saeh.
Blessed [be] the Lord, the God of Israel; For he hath visited and wrought redemption for his people,
69 A taengom David im khuiah mamih ham khangnah ki a thoh sak.
And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of his servant David
70 Khosuen lamloh a tonghma ciim rhoek kah ka dongah a thui vanbangla, (aiōn )
(As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets which have been since the world began), (aiōn )
71 Mamih kah rhal rhoek neh mamih aka hmuhuet rhoek boeih kut lamkah khangnah,
Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72 a pa rhoek taengah rhennah tueng sak ham neh a paipi ciim te poek sak ham,
To shew mercy towards our fathers, And to remember his holy covenant;
73 a pa Abraham taengah olhlo neh a toemngam te mamih paek ham,
The oath which he sware unto Abraham our father,
74 amah taengah thothueng hamla rhal kut lamloh hoel n'hlawt coeng.
To grant unto us that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies Should serve him without fear,
75 mamih kah khohnin rhoek boeih te amah hmaiah duengnah neh cimcaihnah ham ni.
In holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
76 Te phoeiah, camoe, nang tah Khohni tonghma la n'khue vetih a longpuei rhoekbah ham Boeipa hmaiah na lamhma ni.
Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;
77 Amih kah tholh khodawkngainah rhangneh a pilnam taengah khangnah mingnah a paek ni.
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people In the remission of their sins,
78 Mamih Pathen kah rhehnah om. Te nen te a sang lamkah khothoeng loh mamih n'hip.
Because of the tender mercy of our God, Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us,
79 Dueknah mueihlip neh yinnah khuiah aka ngol rhoek ham te a tue vetih, mamih kah kho te ngaimongnah longpuei la hoihaeng ham ni,” a ti.
To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death; To guide our feet into the way of peace.
80 Camoe tah rhoeng tih mueihla ah khaw rhaang. Te dongah Israel taengah a phoenah khohnin duela khosoek ah om.
And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
