< Jonah 3 >

1 BOEIPA ol he Jonah taengah a pabae la cet tih,
Then came the word of Yahweh unto Jonah, the second time, saying:
2 “Thoo, Nineveh khopuei len la cet lamtah nang taengah olthang ka thui te a taengah hoe pah,” a ti nah.
Arise, get thee unto Nineveh, the great city, —and cry against it the cry that I am bidding thee.
3 Te dongah Jonah te thoo tih BOEIPA ol bangla Nineveh la cet. Te vaengah Nineveh tah Pathen taengah khopuei koek la om tih hnin thum caeh lo.
So Jonah arose, and went his way unto Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh, —Nineveh, being a city great before God, of three days’ journey.
4 Jonah te hlah tih khopuei khuiah hnin at caeh a pha neh a hoe coeng. Te vaengah, “Hnin sawmli om pueng dae Nineveh a palet coeng,” a ti.
So Jonah began to enter into the city, one day’s journey, —and he cried out and said—Yet forty days, and, Nineveh, is to be overthrown!
5 Te vaengah Nineveh hlang rhoek loh Pathen te a tangnah uh. Te dongah yaehnah te a hoe uh tih a len lamloh a yit duela tlamhni a bai uh.
And the people of Nineveh believed in God, —and proclaimed a fast, and clothed themselves in sackcloth, from the greatest of them, even unto the least of them.
6 Ol loh Nineveh manghai taengla a pha. Te dongah a ngolkhoel lamloh thoo tih a pum dongkah a himbai te a pit. Te phoeiah tlamhni a bai tih hmaiphu lakli ah ngol.
And the word reached unto the king of Nineveh, so he arose from his throne, and laid aside his robe from off him, —and covered him with sackcloth, and sat on ashes.
7 Te phoeiah pang tih manghai kah omih neh Nineveh ah a thui. A len rhoek taengah, “Hlang neh rhamsa khaw, saelhung neh boiva loh, caak pakhat khaw ten boel saeh lamtah bul boel saeh, tui khaw o boel saeh.
And he caused an outcry to be made—and said—throughout Nineveh, By decree of the king and of his great men, Be it known: —Man and beast, herd and flock, Let them taste, nothing, let them not feed, and, water, let them not drink:
8 Hlang neh rhamsa loh tlamhni bai uh saeh lamtah Pathen te thama la khue uh saeh. Hlang he amah kah boethae longpuei lamloh, a kut dongkah kuthlahnah lamloh mael saeh.
Let both man and beast, cover themselves with sackcloth, and let them cry unto God, mightily, —Yea let them turn, every man from his wicked way, and from the violence which is in their hands:
9 Ulong a ming huek? Pathen he mael tih ko a hlawt khaming. A thintoek thinsa lamloh a mael daengah ni m'milh uh pawt eh?,” a ti nah.
Who knoweth whether God himself—may turn and grieve, —and turn away from the glow of his anger, that we perish not?
10 Amih kah boethae longpuei lamloh a mael uh dongah amih khoboe te Pathen loh a hmuh. Te dongah Pathen loh ko a hlawt tih amih soah boethae saii hamla a thui dae saii pawh.
And God saw their doings, that they turned from their wicked way, —and God was grieved over the calamity which he had spoken of executing upon them, and executed it not.
