< Johan 3 >

1 Te vaengah Pharisee khuikah hlang pakhat, a ming ah Nikodemu, Judah rhoek kah boei te om.
Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, who was a ruler of the Jews.
2 Anih loh khoyin ah a taengla a paan tih, “Rhabbi, Pathen taeng lamkah aka pawk saya pakhat la kam ming uh, Pathen te a taengah om pawt atah miknoek na saii he saii ham coeng mahpawh,” a ti nah.
He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that yoʋ are a teacher who has come from God, for no one can do these signs yoʋ are doing unless God is with him.”
3 Jesuh loh anih te a doo tih, “Nang taengah rhep rhep kan thui, koep a cun hlang pawt loh Pathen kah ram te a hmuh ham coeng pawh,” a ti nah.
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to yoʋ, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nikodemu loh amah te, “Metlam patong la aka om hlang he a thang ham a coeng eh? Pabae la a manu bung khuila kun ham neh a thaang ham a coeng moenih?” a ti nah.
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a person be born when he is old? Can he enter the womb of his mother a second time and be born?”
5 Jesuh loh, “Nang taengah rhep rhep kan thui, tui neh Mueihla kah a cun pawt te tah, Pathen kah ram khuiah a kun ham coeng pawh.
Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to yoʋ, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6 Pumsa kah a cun tah pumsa la om tih Mueihla kah a cun tah mueihla la om van.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Nang taengah kan thui te ngaihmang sak boeh, nangmih he koep cun ham a kuek.
Do not be amazed that I said to yoʋ, ‘You must be born again.’
8 Khohli loh a ngaih la hli tih a ol te na yaak. Tedae me lamkah ha pawk tih mela a caeh khaw na ming moenih. Mueihla kah a cun khaw te tlam ni boeih a om,” a ti nah.
The wind blows where it wishes. Yoʋ hear the sound of it, but yoʋ do not know where it is coming from or where it is going; so it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
9 Nikodemu loh a doo tih, “He tla om thai aya?” a ti nah.
In response Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?”
10 Jesuh loh anih te a doo tih, “Nang tah Israel kah saya la na om coeng dae he khaw na ming mahnim?
Jesus answered him, “Yoʋ are the teacher of Israel, and yoʋ do not understand these things?
11 Nang taengah rhep rhep kan thui, m'ming te n'thui tih m'hmuh te ni m'phong. Tedae kaimih kah olphong te na ming uh moenih.
Truly, truly, I say to yoʋ, we speak of what we know, and we testify about what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.
12 Nangmih taengah diklai koe ka thui vaengah na tangnah uh pawt atah nangmih taengah vaan koe te ka thui koinih metlam na tangnah uh eh?
If I have spoken to you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I speak to you about heavenly things?
13 Te dongah vaan lamkah aka rhum hlang capa pawt koinih vaan la luei uh mahpawh.
No one has ascended into heaven, except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
14 Moses loh khosoek ah rhul a tai bangla hlang capa khaw tai ham a kuek van.
Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15 Te dongah amah aka tangnah boeih tah dungyan hingnah a dang ni. (aiōnios g166)
so that everyone who believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
16 Pathen loh diklai a lungnah tangloeng tih khueh duen capa te a paek. Amah aka tangnah boeih tah poci pawt vetih dungyan hingnah a dang ni. (aiōnios g166)
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
17 Pathen loh diklai te laitloek thil hamla diklai ah capa a tueih moenih. Tedae anih lamloh diklai te khang ham ni a tueih.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.
18 Amah aka tangnah tah laitloek thil mahpawh, tedae aka tangnah pawt tah Pathen capa khueh duen ming te a tangnah pawt dongah a tangtae la lai a tloek thil coeng.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
19 Laitloeknah he om ngawn coeng. Vangnah tah diklai la ha pawk coeng dae hlang rhoek loh a khoboe thae a khueh dongah vangnah lakah yinnah te lat a lungnah uh.
This is the judgment: The light has come into the world, but people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.
20 A thae la aka khoboe boeih loh vangnah te a hmuhuet tih a khoboe te a toeltham pawt ham ni vangnah khuila ha pawk pawh.
For whoever does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, so that his works may not be exposed.
21 Oltak aka saii tah vangnah khuila ha pawk. Te daengah ni Pathen ming neh a saii a bitat te a phoe sak eh,” a ti nah.
But whoever lives by the truth comes to the light, so that it may be evident that his works have been done in obedience to God.”
22 He phoeiah Jesuh tah a hnukbang rhoek neh Judah kho la pawk. Te vaengah amih taengah tapkhoeh om tih a nuem.
After this Jesus went into the Judean countryside along with his disciples, and he spent some time there with them, baptizing people.
23 Salim Johan long khaw Salim kaep kah Aenon ah om tih a nuem. Tui khaw muep a om tapkhoeh dongah ha pawk uh vaengah a nuem uh.
Now John was also baptizing people in Aenon near Salem, because there was plenty of water there, and people were coming to him and being baptized.
24 Johan te thongim ah hlak la a om hlan dongah ni.
(For John had not yet been thrown into prison.)
25 Te phoeiah Johan kah hnukbang rhoek te Judah hoel neh cimcaihnah kawng olpungnah om.
Now a discussion arose between the disciples of John and a Jew about purification.
26 Te dongah Johan te a paan uh tih, “Rhabbi, anih ke Jordan rhalvangan la nang taengah om tih, a kawng na phong dae ta. Anih loh a nuem dongah a taengla boeih ha pawk uh coeng ke,” a ti na uh.
So John's disciples came and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with yoʋ beyond the Jordan, about whom yoʋ have testified, behold, he is baptizing people, and everyone is going to him.”
27 Johan loh a doo tih, “Anih te vaan lamloh paek la om pawt koinih hlang loh pakhat khaw a dang thai moenih,” a ti nah.
John replied, “A person cannot receive anything unless it is given to him from heaven.
28 Nangmih loh kai taengah na phong uh te, ‘Kai tah Khrih moenih, tedae a hmaikah a tueih te ni,’ ka ti.
You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but rather, ‘I have been sent ahead of him.’
29 Yulokung loh vasakung te a khueh la om dae yulokung kah paya long tah khueh pawh. Aka pai tih aka hnatun loh yulokung kah ol dongah omngaihnah neh omngaih. Te dongah ka omngaihnah tah soep coeng.
He who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.
30 Anih te a rhoeng mak atah, ka tlak khaw a kuek mai coeng.
He must increase, but I must decrease.”
31 A so lamkah aka pawk tah hlang boeih soah om. Diklai ah aka om tah diklai kah la om tih diklai lamkah te a thui. Vaan lamkah aka pawk tah a soah boeih om.
He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks about earthly things. But he who comes from heaven is above all.
32 A hmuh neh a yaak te a phong. Tedae anih kah olphong te doe uh pawh.
He testifies to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony.
33 Anih kah olphong aka doe loh Pathen tah oltak ni tila kutnoek a daeng coeng.
Whoever does receive his testimony has certified that God is true.
34 Anih te Pathen loh a tueih dongah Pathen kah olthang ni a thui. Mueihla a paek te khaw a tarhing a khueh pah moenih.
For he whom God sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without measure.
35 Pa loh capa te a lungnah dongah a cungkuem he a kut ah a paek.
The Father loves the Son and has put all things in his hand.
36 Capa aka tangnah loh dungyan hingnah a khueh. Tedae capa ol aka aek tah hingnah hmu pawt tih anih loh Pathen kah kosi a rhaeh thil. (aiōnios g166)
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life; rather, the wrath of God remains upon him. (aiōnios g166)
