< Joba 1 >

1 Hlang pakhat, a ming ah Job tah Uz khohmuen ah om. Tekah hlang tah cuemthuek neh a thuem la, Pathen aka rhih tih boethae lamloh aka nong la om.
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.
2 Anih te capa parhih neh canu pathum a sak.
There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.
3 Anih kah boiva he boiva thawng rhih, kalauk thawng thum, vaito rhoi ya nga, laak ya nga om. Imkhut khaw muep ping tih khothoeng koca boeih lakah hlang len la om.
His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.
4 A ca rhoek khaw cet uh tih amah khohnin vaengah amah im kah buhkoknah rhip a saii uh. Te vaengah a ngannu pathum te a tah uh tih a khue uh. A ngannu rhoek khaw amih neh a caak a ok uh.
His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5 Buhkoknah khohnin a poeng van neh Job loh amih te a tah tih a ciim. Te tlam te Job loh hnin takuem a saii.
It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.
6 Hnin at ah Pathen ca rhoek te cet uh tih BOEIPA taengah pai. Te vaengah Satan khaw amih lakli ah cet.
Now on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan also came among them.
7 BOEIPA loh Satan te, “Me lamkah lae na pawk,” a ti nah. Te vaengah Satan loh BOEIPA te doo tih, “Diklai ah ka van thikthuek tih a khuiah ka pongpa coeng,” a ti nah.
The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
Anih bangla a cuemthuek neh aka thuem, Pathen aka rhih tih boethae lamloh aka nong hlang he diklai ah om pawh,” a ti nah.
The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil.”
9 Satan loh BOEIPA te a doo tih, “Lunglilungla mai la Job loh Pathen a rhih tang nim?
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
10 Namah loh anih ham neh a imkhui ham khaw, a taengkah boeih ham khaw vong na buk pah moenih a? A kut dongkah bibi te yoe na then sak tih a boiva loh diklai ah pungtai.
Haven’t you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will renounce you to your face.”
Tedae amah soah tah na kut hlah boeh,” a ti nah. Te phoeiah Satan te BOEIPA mikhmuh lamloh khoe uh.
The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don’t stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
13 Hnin at vaengah a capa rhoek neh a canu rhoek loh a maya caming im ah buh a caak uh tih misurtui a ok uh.
It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
that a messenger came to Job, and said, “The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,
15 Tedae Sheba tah capit uh tih te rhoek te a mawt coeng. Camoe rhoek te khaw cunghang ha neh a ngawn uh. Kai kamah bueng he nang taengah aka puen la dawk ka loeih,” a ti nah.
and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
16 Te te a thui li vaengah pakhat ha pawk tih, “Pathen hmai tah vaan lamloh tla tih boiva te a toih coeng. Camoe rhoek te khaw a hlawp coeng. Kai kamah bueng he nang taengah aka puen la dawk ka loeih,” a ti nah.
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
17 Te te thui li vaengah pakhat ha pawk tih, “Khalden rhoek hlop thum la yolh uh tih kalauk dongla capit uh. Te rhoek te a khuen phoeiah camoe rhoek te cunghang ha neh a ngawn. Kai kamah bueng he nang taengah aka puen la dawk ka loeih,” a ti nah.
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
18 Te te a thui vaengah pakhat a pawk pah tih, “Na capa rhoek neh na canu rhoek loh buh a caak uh tih a maya caming im ah misurtui a ok uh.
While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
19 Te vaengah rhalvang khosoek lamloh khohli puei tarha cu tih im kil pali te a nen. Te dongah camoe rhoek a cungku thil tih duek uh. Kai kamah bueng he nang taengah aka puen la dawk ka loeih,” a ti nah.
and behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
20 Te vaengah Job thoo tih a hnikul te a phen. A lu te a vok. Diklai la khup tih bakop.
Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped.
BOEIPA a paek tih BOEIPA loh a loh dongah, BOEIPA ming tah yoethen la om pai saeh,” a ti.
He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the LORD’s name.”
22 A cungkuem dongah he Job tholh pawt tih Pathen taengah khaw a hohap a paek moenih.
In all this, Job didn’t sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.
