< Jeremiah 38 >

1 Jeremiah loh pilnam pum taengah a thui ol te Mattan capa Shephatiah, Pashur capa Gedaliah, Shelemiah capa Jukal, Malkhiah capa Pashur loh a yaak.
And, when Shephatiah son of Mattan and Gedaliah son of Pashhur and Jucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchiah, heard the words which Jeremiah was speaking unto all the people saying:
2 “BOEIPA loh he ni a. thui. He khopuei kah khosa rhoek te cunghang neh, khokha neh, duektahaw neh duek uh ni. Tedae Khalden taengah aka mop tah hing rhoe hing ni. A hinglu te a taengah kutbuem bangla om vetih hing ni.
Thus saith Yahweh, He that remaineth in this city shall die, by sword by famine, or by pestilence, —whereas, he that goeth forth unto the Chaldeans, shall live, so shall he have his life for a spoil, and shall live.
3 BOEIPA loh he ni a. thui. He khopuei he Babylon manghai caem kut dongah a paek rhoe a paek vetih a loh ni,” a ti.
Thus, saith Yahweh, —This city shall surely be given, into the hand of the force of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it.
4 Tedae mangpa rhoek loh manghai taengah, “Hekah hlang he duek laeh saeh. He ol lamloh amih taengah a thui ham akhaw he khopuei kah aka sueng caemtloek hlang rhoek kut neh pilnam pum kah kut ni a khah pah. Hekah hlang ngawn tah he pilnam kah ngaimongnah ham lakah yoethaenah ham bueng toem pawt nim?” a ti uh.
Then said the princes unto the king, —Let this man we pray thee, be put to death, for in this way, is he weakening the hands of the men of war who are left in this, city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking unto them such words as these; for, this man, is not seeking prosperity for this people but misfortune.
5 Te dongah manghai Zedekiah loh, “Anih he nangmih kut ah ni a om ne. Nangmih ol te manghai loh a aal thai ngawn moenih,” a ti nah.
Then said King Zedekiah, —Lo! he is in your hand; for the king is not one who is able to do anything against you.
6 Te dongah Jeremiah te a khuen uh tih thongim vongup kah manghai capa Malkhiah kah tuito khuila a voeih uh. Jeremiah te rhui neh a colh uh vaengah tangrhom khuiah tui om pawh. Tedae tangnong kak la om tih Jeremiah khaw tangnong dongah buek.
Then took they Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah son of the king, which was in the guard-court, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes, —now, in the dungeon, was no water only mire, so Jeremiah sank in the mire.
7 Jeremiah tuito ah a khueh uh te manghai im kah imkhoem Kushi hlang Ebedmelek loh a yaak. Te vaengah manghai te Benjamin vongka ah ngol.
When Ebed-melech the Ethiopian one of the eunuchs, he being in the house of the king, heard that they had delivered Jeremiah into the dungeon, —the king being seated in the gate of Benjamin,
8 Te dongah Ebedmelek te manghai im lamloh cet tih manghai te a thui pah.
then went forth Ebed-melech out of the house of the king, and spake unto the king, saying:
9 “Ka boei manghai aw, he kah hlang rhoek loh thaehuet nen ni tonghma Jeremiah te boeih a saii uh. Anih he tangrhom khuila a voeih uh dae khopuei khuiah buh a om voel pawt dongah khokha ah amah khaw duek ni,” a ti nah.
My lord, O King! wickedly, have these men done all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom indeed they have cast into the dungeon, —since he would have died where he was because of the famine, for there is no bread any longer, in the city.
10 Te dongah manghai loh Kushi Ebedmelek te a uen tih, “Na kut hmukah hlang sawmthum he khuen lamtah tonghma Jeremiah te a duek hlan ah tangrhom lamloh doek laeh,” a ti nah.
Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian saying, —Take with thee from hence thirty men, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he die.
11 Te dongah Ebedmelek loh a kut dongkah hlang rhoek te a kuen tih manghai im thakvoh taengla cet. Te phoeiah himbai rhuem lamkah aka pawn, aka pawn te a loh tih nakkhoe rhuem te tangrhom khuikah Jeremiah taengah rhui neh a hlak pah.
So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence pieces of cast-off clothes, and old rags, —and let them down unto Jeremiah in the dungeon with the ropes.
12 Kushi Ebedmelek loh Jeremiah te, “Himbai rhuem nakpawn neh nakkhoe te na ban sukvai hmuikah rhui dang ah dok ne,” a ti nah tih Jeremiah long khaw a saii van.
Then said Ebed-melech the Ethiopian unto Jeremiah, —Put, I pray thee the pieces of cast-off clothes and the old rags under thine arm-joints, under the ropes, And Jeremiah did so,
13 Jeremiah te rhui neh a doek uh tih tangrhom lamloh a poh uh. Tedae Jeremiah he thongim vongup ah ni a. om.
Then drew they Jeremiah with the ropes, and lifted him up out of the dungeon, —and Jeremiah remained in the guard-court.
14 Te phoeiah manghai Zedekiah loh a tah tih tonghma Jeremiah te BOEIPA im kah a pathum vongka la a khuen. Manghai loh Jeremiah te, “Kai loh nang te ol kan dawt vaengah he kai taengah ol phah boeh ne,” a ti nah.
Then King Zedekiah sent and fetched Jeremiah the prophet unto him, in the third entrance, which is in the house of Yahweh, —and the king said unto Jeremiah—I am going to ask thee a thing, do not hide anything from me.
15 Jeremiah loh Zedekiah te, “Nang taengah ka puen atah kai he a duek khaw nan duek sak pawt nim? Nang te khoem kang uen ah pataeng kai taengkah he na hnatun moenih,” a ti nah.
Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, When I tell thee, wilt thou not, surely put me to death? And when I counsel thee, thou wilt not hearken unto me.
16 Tedae manghai Zedekiah loh Jeremiah taengah a huep la a toemngam tih, “Hingnah BOEIPA amah loh mamih ham hinglu a saii. Nang te kan duek sak pawt vetih na hinglu aka mae hlang rhoek kut ah khaw nang kan tloeng mahpawh,” a ti nah.
So King Zedekiah aware unto Jeremiah secretly saying, —By the life of Yahweh who made for us, this soul, I will in no wise put thee to death, Neither will I deliver thee into the hand of these men who are seeking thy life.
17 Te dongah Jeremiah loh Zedekiah te, “Israel Pathen caempuei Pathen BOEIPA loh he ni a thui. Babylon manghai mangpa rhoek taengah a kun rhoe na kun daengah ni na hinglu te hing vetih khopuei he hmai neh a hoeh pawt eh. Te phoeiah namah khaw na imkhui neh na hing ni.
Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah—Thus, saith Yahweh God of hosts, God of Israel—If thou wilt, indeed go forth, unto the princes of the king of Babylon, then shall thine own soul live, and, this city, shall not be burned with fire, —but thou shalt live, thou and thy house.
18 Tedae Babylon manghai kah mangpa rhoek taengla na kun pawt koinih khopuei he Khalden kut ah a paek vetih hmai neh a hoeh uh ni. Namah khaw amih kut lamloh na loeih mahpawh,” a ti nah.
But, if thou wilt not go forth unto the princes of the king of Babylon, then shall this city be delivered into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and, thou, shalt not escape out of their hand.
19 Manghai Zedekiah loh Jeremiah taengah, “Khalden taengah aka kuep Judah rhoek te ka mawn coeng, amih kut ah kai n'tloeng vetih kai he m'poelyoe lah ve,” a ti nah.
Then said King Zedekiah unto Jeremiah: I am afraid of the Jews who have fallen away unto the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me, into their hand, and they maltreat me.
20 Jeremiah loh, “N'tloeng mahpawh. Namah taengah ka thui BOEIPA ol te hnatun laeh. Te daengah ni na taengah voelphoeng vetih na hinglu khaw a hing eh.
But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver!—Hearken I pray thee unto the voice of Yahweh in what I am speaking unto thee, that it may be well with thee and thy soul live.
21 Tedae BOEIPA loh kai n'tueng ol dongah he kun ham na aal atah,
But if thou art refusing to go forth, this, is the thing which Yahweh hath shewed me: —
22 Judah manghai im ah aka sueng huta rhoek te khaw Babylon manghai kah mangpa taengla boeih a khuen uh ni ne. Te vaengah amih loh, “Namah te m'vueh uh tih na ngaimongnah hlang loh namah m'vueinan coeng. Na kho te tuinok dongah buek tih a hnuk la balkhong coeng,’ a ti uh ni.
behold, then, all the women that are left in the house of the king of Judah, brought forth unto the princes of the king of Babylon, —and, those very women, saying, The men thou wast wont to salute, have goaded thee on and prevailed upon thee, —Thy foot having sunk in the mire, they have turned away back.
23 Na yuu neh na ca rhoek te Khalden taengla boeih a khuen uh ni. Namah khaw amih kut lamloh na poenghal pawt vetih Babylon manghai kut loh n'tuuk ni. Te vaengah khopuei he hmai neh a hoeh uh ni,” a ti nah.
Yea thou shalt behold all thy wives and thy children brought forth unto the Chaldeans, and thou, shalt not escape out of their hand, —but by the hand of the king of Babylon, shalt thou be taken, and, this city, shall be burned with fire.
24 Zedekiah loh Jeremiah te, “He ol he hlang loh a ming pawt daengah ni na duek pawt eh.
Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah—Do not let, any man, know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
25 Nang taengah ka thui te mangpa rhoek loh a yaak tih nang taengla ha pawk uh khaming. Te vaengah nang te, 'Kaimih taengah thui laeh, manghai taengah balae na thui? Kaimih taengah phah boeh, nang te kan duek sak uh mahpawh, manghai loh nang taengah balae a thui?' a ti uh atah,
But, when the princes hear that I have spoken with thee and they come in unto thee and say unto thee—Do tell us we pray thee what thou didst speak unto the king, do not hide it from us so will we not put thee to death, —and what spake the king unto, thee?
26 amih te, 'Ka lungmacil he manghai mikhmuh ah ka buk coeng, duek sak pahoi ham atah Jonathan im la kai mael sak boeh,’ ti nah,” a ti nah.
Then shalt thou say unto them, —I was causing my supplication to fall prostrate before the king, —that he would not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan, to die there.
27 Mangpa rhoek te Jeremiah taengla boeih ha pawk uh tih anih te a dawt uh. Te vaengah manghai loh a uen ol rhoek te amih taengah boeih a thui. Ol te a yaak uh pawt dongah a taengah hil a phah uh van.
Then came in all the princes unto Jeremiah and asked him, and he told them according to all these words which the king, had commanded, —so they turned in silence from him, for the matter, had not been reported.
28 Jerusalem a tuuk khohnin duela thongim vongup ah ni Jeremiah a om pueng. Jerusalem a loh vaengah khaw om pueng.
So Jeremiah remained in the guard-court, until the day when Jerusalem, was captured; thus it fell out when Jerusalem, was captured.
