In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,
2 Caempuei BOEIPA loh he ni a thui. Pilnam he thui pah lah. ‘BOEIPA im sak ham tue he, a tue pai hlan’ a ti uh he,” a ti.
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, It is not the time [for us] to come, the time for the LORD’S house to be built.
3 BOEIPA ol he tonghma Haggai kut lamloh cet bal tih,
Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,
4 Nangmih te namamih bueng na im khop ah khosak ham tue a? Tedae im he kaksap coeng he.
Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your cieled houses, while this house lieth waste?
5 Te dongah caempuei BOEIPA loh he ni a thui coeng. Na longpuei te na thinko ah dueh laeh.
Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways,
6 Muep na tuh dae a yol la pawk. A caak dae a cungnah la om pawh. A ok akhaw rhuihmil hae pawh. Bai cakhaw a bae hae moenih. Kutloh loh a kutloh akhaw hnocun put hae.
Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages [to put it] into a bag with holes.
7 Caempuei BOEIPA loh he ni a thui. Na longpuei te na thinko ah dueh laeh.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways.
8 “Tlang la luei uh lamtah thing lo uh laeh. Im he sa uh laeh. A khui ah ngaingaih saeh lamtah ka thangpom khaw ka thangpom mai eh,” tila BOEIPA loh a thui.
Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
9 A yet la a mael thil dae a yol la poeh coeng te. Im la na khuen uh vaengah te te phawn ka hmuh. Balae tih caempuei BOEIPA kah olphong a om? Ka im he a kaksap vaengah nangmih kah hlang mai tah, amah im neh cungpoeh uh.
Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that lieth waste, while ye run every man to his own house.
10 “Te dongah nangmih ham tah vaan loh buemtui a hloh uh vetih, diklai loh a cangpai a hloh ni.
Therefore for your sake the heaven is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed [from] her fruit.
11 “Diklai hman neh tlang soah khaw, cangpai so neh misur thai soah khaw, situi so neh diklai kah a thoeng boeih soah khaw, hlang so neh rhamsa soah khaw, kut dongkah thaphu boeih soah khaw kholing ka khue thil ni,” a ti nah.
And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
12 Te dongah Shealtiel capa Zerubbabel neh khosoih puei Jehozadak capa Joshua long khaw, pilnam kah a meet boeih long khaw a Pathen BOEIPA ol neh tonghma Haggai ol te a ngai. Anih te a Pathen BOEIPA loh a tueih coeng dongah pilnam te BOEIPA mikhmuh ah rhih uh.
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people did fear before the LORD.
13 Te phoeiah BOEIPA kah puencawn Haggai loh BOEIPA kah olthui te pilnam taengah a thui pah. Te vaengah, “Kai tah nangmih taengah BOEIPA kah olphong ni,” a ti nah.
Then spake Haggai the LORD’S messenger in the LORD’S message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.
14 Te vaengah BOEIPA loh Judah rhalboei Shealtiel capa Zerubbabel kah mueihla te khaw, khosoih puei Jehozadak capa Joshua kah mueihla khaw, pilnam a meet boeih kah mueihla khaw a haeng pah. Te dongah kun uh tih a Pathen caempuei YAHWEH im ah bitat te,
And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,
