< 2 Samuel 20 >
1 Te vaengah hlang muen pakhat om, a ming tah Benjamin hlang, Bikhri capa Sheba ni. Tuki te a ueng tih, “Mamih kah hamsum he David ham moenih, mamih kah rho he Jesse capa taengah a om ham moenih. Israel rhoekTe amah kah dap la boeih cet saeh,” a ti.
And there happened to be a man of worthlessness there, and his name [is] Sheba, son of Bichri, a Benjamite, and he blows with a horn and says, “We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; each [goes] to his tents, O Israel.”
2 Te dongah Israel hlang boeih tah David hnuk lamloh Bikhri capa Sheba hnuk la cet uh. Tedae Judah hlang tah Jordan lamloh Jerusalem duela a manghai nen ni a. kaibaeng uh.
And every man of Israel goes up from after David, after Sheba son of Bichri, and the men of Judah have cleaved to their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
3 David Te Jerusalem kah amah im la a pawk vaengah im tawt la a paih a yula huta parha te manghai loh a loh tih im hloeh ah a khueh. Amih te a cangbam van ngawn dae amih taengla moe pah voel pawh. Amih te a duek hnin duela a daengdaeh dongah a khosaknah he nuhmai la om uh.
And David comes to his house at Jerusalem. And the king takes the ten women-concubines whom he had left to keep the house, and puts them in a house of ward and sustains them, and he has not gone in to them, and they are shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.
4 Manghai loh Amasa taengah, “Hnin thum khuiah Judah hlang te kamah taengla hueh lamtah namah khaw pahoi om,” a ti nah.
And the king says to Amasa, “Call the men of Judah for me [within] three days, and you, stand here,”
5 Amasa loh Judah rhoekTe hueh hamla cet ngawn dae uelh, uelh tih tingtunnah te a khueh.
and Amasa goes to call Judah, and tarries beyond the appointed time that he had appointed him;
6 Te dongah David loh Abishai taengah, “Absalom lakah Bikhri capa Sheba loh mamih taengah thae a huet pawn ni. Namah loh na boeipa kah sal rhoek ke khuen lamtah a hnukah hloem laeh. Khopuei vong cak Te anih loh hmuh vetih mamih mikhmuh ah huul uh ve,” a ti nah.
and David says to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bichri does evil to us more than Absalom; you, take the servants of your lord, and pursue after him, lest he has found fortified cities for himself, and delivered himself [from] our eye.”
7 Te dongah Joab kah hlang rhoek, Kerethi, Phelethi neh hlangrhalh boeih tah anih hnukah cet uh tih, Bikhri capa Sheba hnuk hloem hamla Jerusalem lamloh khoong uh.
And the men of Joab go out after him, and the Cherethite, and the Pelethite, and all the mighty men, and they go out from Jerusalem to pursue after Sheba son of Bichri;
8 Amih Te Gibeon lungnu ah a om uh vaengah Amasa Te amih mikhmuh ah a pawk pah. Te dongah Joab loh a himbai neh a pueinak te a muk. Capang dongkah cunghang Te cihin neh a cinghen ah a sol dae a khuen vaengah vik a colh pah.
they [are] near the great stone that [is] in Gibeon, and Amasa has gone before them, and Joab [is] girded; he has put his long robe on him, and on it a girdle—a sword [is] fastened on his loins in its sheath; and he has gone out, and it falls.
9 Joab loh Amasa te, “Ka manuca na sading a? a ti nah. Te phoeiah anih te mok hamla Amasa hnapae te Joab kah bantang kut neh a tuuk.
And Joab says to Amasa, “Are you [in] peace, my brother?” And the right hand of Joab lays hold on the beard of Amasa to give a kiss to him;
10 Te vaengah Joab kut dongkah cunghang te Amasa loh hmuethmat pawh. Te dongah Amasa Te tumca neh a bung ah a laih tih a bung Te diklai la pawk a sop pah. Anih te a talh mueh la duek. Te phoeiah Joab neh a mana Abishai loh Bikhri capa Sheba te a hloem.
and Amasa has not been watchful of the sword that [is] in the hand of Joab, and he strikes him with it to the fifth [rib], and sheds out his bowels to the earth, and he has not repeated [it] to him, and he dies; and Joab and his brother Abishai have pursued after Sheba son of Bichri.
11 Te vaengah Joab kah tueihyoeih khui lamkah hlang pakhatTe a taengah pai tih, “U khaw Joab taengla aka naep tih u khaw David ham aka ti te tah Joab hnukah bat saeh,” a ti.
And a man has stood by him, of the young men of Joab, and says, “He who has delight in Joab, and he who [is] for David—after Joab!”
12 Amasa tah long lung ah a thii neh a bol vaengah hlang pakhat loh a hmuh. Te dongah pilnam te boeih a hloh tih Amasa te longpuei lamloh lohma la a thoeih uh. Anih taengla aka thoeng boeih loh a hmuh vaengah a pai thil tih anih Te himbai a khuk thil.
And Amasa is rolling himself in blood, in the midst of the highway, and the man sees that all the people have stood still, and he brings around Amasa out of the highway to the field, and casts a garment over him when he has seen that everyone who has come by him has stood still.
13 Long lamloh a khoe van nen tah hlang boeih loh Bikhri capa Sheba hnuk hloem hamla Joab te a paan.
When he has been removed out of the highway, every man has passed on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba son of Bichri.
14 Te vaengah Israel koca boeih Te Abel lungnu neh Bethmaakha due, Beree boeih te khaw a hil. Te dongah coi tih, tingtun uh tih a hnukah bang uh.
And he passes over through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, and to Beth-Maachah, and to all the Berites, and they are assembled, and also go in after him,
15 Abelbethmaakah a pha uh vaengah anih te koep a dum uh. Khopuei te tanglung malh a lun thil uh tih rhalmahvong te a pai thil. Joab neh a pilnam pum loh vongtung te cungku sak ham a thuk.
and they go in and lay siege against him, in Abel of Beth-Maachah, and cast up a mound against the city, and it stands in a trench, and all the people who are [are] with Joab are destroying, to cause the wall to fall.
16 Te vaengah khopuei lamkah huta aka cueih Te pang tih, “Hnatun, hnatun uh mai lah, Joab te, 'Hela ha mop lamtah namah taengah ka thui eh?,’ ti nah dae,” a ti.
And a wise woman calls out of the city, “Hear! Hear! Please say to Joab, Come near here, and I speak to you.”
17 A taengla a thoeng pah vaengah huta loh, “Joab nang a,” a ti nah. Te dongah, “Kai ni ue,” a ti nah. Te phoeiah, 'Na salnu kah ol he hnatun lah,” a ti nah hatah, “Ka hnatun ngawn,” a ti nah.
And he comes near to her, and the woman says, “Are you Joab?” And he says, “I [am].” And she says to him, “Hear the words of your handmaid”; and he says, “I am hearing.”
18 Te phoeiah a thui lam khaw thui pah. Hlamat ah a thui uh tih Abel ah toem la toem uh tih cing uh,’ a ti lah ko.
And she speaks, saying, “They spoke often in former times, saying, Let them diligently inquire at Abel, and so they finished.
19 Kai long tah Israel he oltak la ka thuung vaengah nang long tah khopuei neh Israel khuikah a manu Te ngawn ham na mae. Balae tih BOEIPA kah rho na yoop eh?,” a ti nah.
I [am] of the peaceable, faithful ones of Israel; you are seeking to destroy a city and mother in Israel; why do you swallow up the inheritance of YHWH?”
20 Joab loh a doo tih, “Savisava la savisava, kai lamloh aka yoop mai tih aka phae mai te.
And Joab answers and says, “Far be it—far be it from me; I do not swallow up nor destroy.
21 He tah ol voel moenih. Tedae Ephraim tlang kah hlang pakhat, Bikhri capa, a ming ah Sheba loh manghai David te a kut a luklek thil. Anih bueng mah han tloeng lamtah khopuei lamloh ka nong bitni,” a ti nah. Te vaengah huta loh Joab taengah, “A lu Te vongtung lamloh namah taengla ham voeih coeng te,” a ti nah.
The matter [is] not so; for a man of the hill-country of Ephraim—Sheba son of Bichri [is] his name—has lifted up his hand against the king, against David; give him up by himself, and I go away from the city.” And the woman says to Joab, “Behold, his head is cast to you over the wall.”
22 Huta loh pilnam boeih te a cueihnah neh a paan dongah Bikhri capa Sheba kah a lu te a rhaih pa uh tih Joab taengla a voeih uh. Te daengah tuki te a ueng tih, hlang khopuei lamloh amah kah dap duela taekyak uh. Te phoeiah Joab Te Jerusalem kah manghai taengla koep mael.
And the woman comes to all the people in her wisdom, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri, and cast [it] to Joab, and he blows with a horn, and they are scattered from the city, each [goes] to his tents, and Joab has turned back to Jerusalem to the king.
23 Te dongah Israel caempuei boeih te Joab loh, Kerethi neh Phelethi Te Jehoiada capa Benaiah loh,
And Joab [is] over all the host of Israel, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada [is] over the Cherethite, and over the Pelethite,
24 Adoram loh saldong boei, Ahilud capa Jehoshaphat loh khokhuen cabu,
and Adoram [is] over the tribute, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud [is] the remembrancer,
25 Sheva Te cadaek, Zadok neh Abiathar loh khosoih te a ngol thil.
and Sheva [is] scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar [are] priests,
26 Jairi Ira khaw David taengah khosoih la om van.
and also, Ira the Jairite has been minister to David.
