< 2 Samuel 13 >
1 Te phoeiah om tih David capa Absalom tah a ngannu sakthen om. Anih ming tah Tamar tih David capa Amnon loh a lungnah.
And it happened after this that Abessalom the son of David had a very beautiful sister, and her name [was] Themar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
2 A ngannu Tamar kong ah Amnon te tloh laa yuek. Anih te a oila pueng dongah khat khat a saii ham Amnon mik ah rhaisang.
And Amnon was distressed even to sickness, because of Themar his sister; for she was a virgin, and it seemed very difficult for Amnon to do anything to her.
3 Te vaengah David maya Shimeah capa, a ming ah Jonadab tah Amnon kah a paya la om. Jonadab tah bahoeng aka cueih hlang la om.
And Amnon had a friend, and his name [was] Jonadab, the son of Samaa the brother of David: and Jonadab [was] a very cunning man.
4 Te dongah anih te, “Ba aih lae mincang bal, mincang bal nang manghai capa he na tattloel aih. Kai taengah na thui mahpawt a?” a tinah. Te daengah Amnon loh, Ka manuca Absalom ngannu Tamar ka ngaih,” a tinah.
And he said to him, What ails you that you are thus weak? O son of the king, morning by morning? will you not tell me? and Ammon said, I love Themar the sister of my brother Abessalom.
5 Te dongah anih te Jehonadab loh, “Na thingkong dongah satlo bangla yalh. NangTe sawt hamla na pa ha pawk vaengah amah taengah, 'Ka ngannu Tamar ha pawk laeh vetih kai buh n'tuh lah mako. Ka mikhmuh ah buhmaeha saii te ka hmu dae eh. Te daengah ni a kut dongkah ka caak eh?,’ ti nah,” a tinah.
And Jonadab said to him, Lie upon your bed, and make yourself sick, and your father shall come in to see you; and you shall say to him, Let, I pray you, Themar my sister come, and feed me with morsels, and let her prepare food before my eyes, that I may see and eat at her hands.
6 AmnonTe satlo bangla yalh toengloeng tih anihTe sawt hamla manghai te ha pawk. Te vaengah Amnon loh manghai taengah, “Ka ngannu Tamar ha pawk laeh saeh lamtah ka mikhmuh ah vaidam panit ah saii saeh. Te daengah ni anih kut lamkah te ka caak eh?,” a tinah.
So Ammon lay down, and made himself sick; and the king came in to see him: and Amnon said to the king, Let, I pray you, my sister Themar come to me, and make a couple of cakes in my sight, and I will eat them at her hand.
7 Te dongah David loh Tamar tea im laa tah tih, “Na nganpa Amnon im la cet lamtah anih ham buhmaeh saii pah laeh,” a tinah.
And David sent to Themar to the house, saying, Go now to your brother's house, and dress him food.
8 TamarTe a nganpa Amnon im la a caeh vaengah anih te ana yalhpah. Vaidamtlam tea loh tih a duep, a duep phoeiah a mikhmuh aha saiipah. Te phoeiah vaidam tea thongpah.
And Themar went to the house of her brother Amnon, and he [was] lying down: and she took the dough and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.
9 Thi-am tea loh tih a mikhmh aha poep pah hatah caak hamlaa aal. Te phoeiah Amnon loh, “Ka taeng lamkah hlang he boeih tueih uh,” a tinah. Te dongah hlang boeihTe anih taeng lamloh nonguh.
And she took the frying pan and poured them out before him, but he would not eat. And Amnon said, Send out every man from about me. And they removed every man from about him.
10 Te phoeiah Amnon loh Tamar te, “Imkhui la buhmaeh hang khuen lamtah na kut dongah ka ca eh?,” a tinah. Te dongah vaidama saii te Tamar loh a loh tih imkhui kah a nganpa Amnon taenglaa kun puei.
And Amnon said to Themar, Bring in the food into the closet, and I will eat of your hand. And Themar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to her brother Amnon into the chamber.
11 A caak ham a taengaha tawn pah vaengah tah amah te vik a tuuk tih, “Ka ngannu halo lamtah kamah neh yalh sih,” a tinah.
And she brought [them] to him to eat, and he caught hold of her, and said to her, Come, lie with me, my sister.
12 Tedae anih te, “Ka nganpa aw te tlam moenih, kai m'poeih boeh, Israel khuiah te bang te a saii noek moenih. Boethaehalang he saii boeh.
And she said to him, Nay, my brother, do not humble me, for it ought not to be so done in Israel; do not this folly.
13 Kai he kamah kah kokhahnah neh melam ka caeh eh. Namah khaw Israel khuiah hlang ang boeiloeih bangla na om ve. Manghai taengah thui kanoek lamtah nang taengah tah kai khaw n'hloh mahpawh,” a ti nah.
And I, whither shall I remove my reproach? and you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. And now, speak, I pray you, to the king, for surely he will not keep me from you.
14 Tedae a ol te yaak ngaih pawh. A ngannuTe rhapa kop tiha yalh puei.
But Amnon would not listen to her voice; and he prevailed against her, and humbled her, and lay with her.
15 Te phoeiah tah anih te Amnon loh lat a hnoel tih a hmuhuetnah bahoenga nahpah. A thiinah vaengkah a hmuhuetnah tea lungnah vaengkah lungnah lakah nah. Te dongah anih te Amnon loh, “Thoo, cet laeh,” a tinah.
Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred; for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her, for the last wickedness was greater than the first: and Amnon said to her, Rise, and be gone.
16 Amnon te, “He lakaha tloe la aka len boethae kah a kong a mai he a om moenih. Kai nan saii tih nan haek te,” a tinah. Tedae anih ol te yaak ngaih voel pawh.
And Themar spoke to him concerning this great mischief, greater, [said she], than the other that you did me, to send me away: but Amnon would not listen to her voice.
17 Te dongah amah aka khut a taengca te, “Anih te kai taeng lamloh kawtpoeng la tueih uh lamtah anih hnukah thohkhaih te kalh laeh,” a tinah.
And he called his servant who had charge of the house, and said to him, Put now this [woman] out from me, and shut the door after her.

And she had on her a variegated robe, for so were the king's daughters that were virgins attired in their apparel: and his servant led her forth, and shut the door after her.
19 Tamar loh a lu dongah hmaiphua phul tih a pum dongkah pendum angkidung khaw a phen. Te phoeiah a kutTe a lu dongaha pingpoei tiha caeh, caeh doeah rhap.
And Themar took ashes, and put them on her head; and she tore the variegated garment that was upon her: and she laid her hands on her head, and went crying continually.
20 Te dongah anih te a nganpa Absalom loh, “Na nganpa Amnon a nang taengah aka om? Ka ngannu na hilphah laeh aniha nang nganpa, he olka dongah na lungbuei khueh boeh,” a tinah. Te dongah Tamar tah a nganpa Absalom im ah kho a sak tih pong van.
And Abessalom her brother said to her, Has your brother Amnon been with you? now then, my sister, be silent, for he is your brother: be not careful to mention this matter. So Themar lived as a widow in the house of her brother Abessalom.
21 Tedae he rhoek kah olka boeih te manghai David loh a yaak vaengah amah khaw muep sai coeng.
And king David heard of all these things, and was very angry; but he did not grieve the spirit of his son Amnon, because be loved him, for he was his firstborn.
22 A ngannu Tamara poeih dongkah olka dongah Absalom loh Amnon te a hmuhuet tiha thaea then akhaw Absalom loh Amnon te voek pawh.
And Abessalom spoke not to Amnon, good or bad, because Abessalom hated Amnon, on account of his humbling his sister Themar.

And it came to pass at the end of two whole years, that they were shearing [sheep] for Abessalom in Belasor near Ephraim: and Abessalom invited all the king's sons.

And Abessalom came to the king, and said, Behold, your servant has a sheep-shearing; let now the king and his servants go with your servant.
25 Manghai loh Absalom te, “Ka capa te tlam moenih, mamih boeih n'cet tarha mahpawh, Te daengah ni namah te n'nan pawt eh?,” a ti nah. A taengaha cahoeh ngawn dae paan pah ham tah huem pawt tih anihTe yoethen a paek.
And the king said to Abessalom, Nay, my son, let us not all go, and let us not be burdensome to you. And he pressed him; but he would not go, but blessed him.
26 Absalom loh, “Te pawt atah ka maya Amnon tah kaimih taengah m'paan mai mako,” a tinah. Tedae amah te manghai loh, “Balae tih nang te m'paan eh?,” a tinah.
And Abessalom said to him, And if not, let I pray you, my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with you?
27 Tedae anih te Absalom loh a cahoeh dongah Amnon neh manghai capa rhoek boeih te a taenglaa tueihpah.
And Abessalom pressed him, and he sent with him Amnon and all the king's sons; and Abessalom made a banquet like the banquet of the king.

And Abessalom charged his servants, saying, Mark when the heart of Amnon shall be merry with wine, and I shall say to you, Strike Amnon, and kill him: fear not; for is it not I that command you? Be courageous, and be valiant.
29 Te dongah Absalom kah a uen bangla Amnon te Absalom kah tueihyoeih rhoek loh a saiiuh. Te dongah manghai capa rhoek tah boeih thoo uh tih a muli-marhang dongah rhip ngol uh tih rhaelrhamuh.
And the servants of Abessalom did to Amnon as Abessalom commanded them: and all the sons of the king rose up, and they mounted every man his mule, and fled.
30 Amih te a longpueng uh vaengah olthang tah David taengla pawk coeng tih, “Absalom loh manghai capa rhoekTe boeiha ngawn tih amih te pakhat khaw a hlun moenih,” a tinah.
And it came to pass, when they were in the way, that a report came to David, saying, Abessalom has slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.
31 Te dongah manghai te thoo tih a himbai tea phen tih lai dongah yalh. Te vaengah a sal aka pai rhoek boeih long khaw himbai te a phenuh.
Then the king arose, and tore his garments, and lay upon the ground: and all his servants that were standing round him tore their garments.

And Jonadab the son of Samaa brother of David, answered and said, Let not my Lord the king say that he has slain all the young men the sons of the king, for Amnon only of them all is dead; for he was appointed [to death] by the mouth of Abessalom from the day that he humbled his sister Themar.
33 Te dongah manghai capa rhoek boeih duek coeng a ti olTe ka boeipa manghai loh a lungbuei ah khueh boel saeh. Amnon amah bueng ni a duek,” a tinah.
And now let not my lord the king take the matter to heart, saying, All the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only of them is dead.

And Abessalom escaped: and the young man the watchman, lifted up his eyes, and looked; and, behold, much people went in the way behind him from the side of the mountain in the descent: and the watchman came and told the king, and said, I have seen men by the way of Oronen, by the side of the mountain.
35 Te dongah Jonadab loh manghai taengah, “Manghai capa rhoek ha pawk uh coeng ke, na sal kah ol bangla om tangkhuet,” a tinah.
And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons are present: according to the word of your servant, so has it happened.

And it came to pass when he had finished speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voices and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept with a very great weeping.

And king David ceased to go out after Abessalom, for he was comforted concerning Amnon, touching his death.
