< 1 Samuel 24 >

1 Philisti hnuk lamloh Saul a mael van neh a taengla puen uh tih, “Engedi khosoek ah David om ke,” a ti nah.
And it came to pass, when Saul had returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying: Lo! David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.
2 Te dongah Saul loh Israel boeih khui lamkah hlang coelh thawng thum te a khuen tih sathai lungpang dan kah David neh a hlang rhoek te tlap ham cet.
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men, out of all Israel, —and went to seek David and his men, over the face of the rocks of the mountain-goats.
3 Saul loh boiva kah tanglung longpuei kaep te a paan. Te vaengah lungko tapkhoeh a om dongah a kho khuk hamla Saul loh a kun thil. Te vaengah David neh a hlang rhoek tah lungko kah a hlaep ah om uh.
And he came into the sheep-folds by the way, there, being a cave, which Saul entered, to cover his feet, —David and his men, in the hinder part of the cave, having taken up their abode.
4 Te vaengah David kah hlang rhoek loh, “BOEIPA loh nang taengah, ‘Tihnin ah Na thunkha, na thunkha te na kut dongla kai loh kam paek coeng he,’ a ti he. Te dongah na mik neh then na ti bangla anih te saii laeh,” a ti na uh. Te dongah David te thoo tih Saul kah hnikul hmoi te a muel la a hlueng pah.
So David’s men said unto him—Lo! the day of which Yahweh said unto thee—Lo! I am about to deliver up thine enemy, into thy hand: therefore shall thou do unto him, as shall be good in thine eyes. And David arose, and cut off the corner of the robe which belonged to Saul, by stealth.
5 Saul kah hni hmoi a hlueng pah dongah David khaw a lungbuei loh a ngawn van.
And it came to pass afterwards that David’s heart smote him, —because he had cut off the corner [of the robe] which belonged to Saul.
6 Te dongah a hlang rhoek taengah, “Anih he BOEIPA kah a koelh la om tih BOEIPA kah a koelh ka boei taengah ka kut thueng thil ham hno he ka saii aya? Te bang te BOEIPA taengah kai lamkah tah savisava,” a ti nah.
And he said unto his men—Far be it from me, of Yahweh, that I should do this thing unto my lord, unto the Anointed of Yahweh, to thrust forth my hand against him, —for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
7 Tedae a hlang rhoek te David loh ol neh a daeh tih amih loh Saul a tlai uh thil ham khaw ngaih puei pawh. Saul ngawn tah lungko lamloh thoo tih longpuei te a paan.
So David did chide his men with the words, and did not suffer them to rise up against Saul. And, Saul, rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
Saul te a hnuk longah a khue tih, “Ka boeipa manghai aw,” a ti nah. Te dongah Saul loh a hnuk la a paelki. Te vaengah David loh a tal neh diklai la buluk tih a bawk.
Then David rose up, afterwards, and went forth out of the cave, and cried out after Saul, saying—My lord, O king! And, when Saul looked about behind him, David inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himself down.
9 David loh Saul te, “Hlang loh, ‘David loh nang kah a thae ni a tlap ke,’ a ti ol te ba ham lae na hnatun.
Then said David to Saul, Wherefore shouldst thou hearken unto the words of the sons of earth, saying, —Lo! David is seeking thy hurt?
10 Ti hnin ah na mik loh a hmuh coeng he.
Lo! this day, have thine own eyes seen, how Yahweh had delivered thee up, to-day, into my hand in the cave, and, when one bade me slay thee, I looked with compassion upon thee, —and I said—I will not thrust forth my hand against my lord, for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
11 A pa so lah he, ka kut dongkah na hnikul hmoi he so.
But, my father, see, yea, see, the corner of thy robe in my hand, —for, in that I cut off the corner of thy robe, and yet did not slay thee, know thou, and see, that there is not in my hand either wrong or transgression, neither have I sinned against thee, yet art thou hunting my life, to take it.
Let Yahweh do justice betwixt me and thee, and let Yahweh avenge me of thee, —but, mine own hand, shall not be upon thee.
13 Yan kah thuidoeknah loh a thui vanbangla halang lamloh halangnah ni a thoeng.
As saith the proverb of the ancients, From the lawless, proceedeth lawlessness, —mine own hand, therefore shall not be upon thee.
14 Israel manghai loh ulae a thoeng thil? U hnuk lae na hloem? Ui duek hnuk neh uihli hnuk a?
After whom, hath the king of Israel come forth? After whom, art thou in pursuit? After a dead dog! after a single flea!
15 Te dongah BOEIPA he laitloekkung la om saeh lamtah kai laklo neh nang laklo ah laitloek nawn saeh. Ka tuituknah khaw hmu saeh lamtah ho saeh. Nang kut lamkah pataeng kai n'tang sak nawn saeh,” a ti nah.
Therefore shall, Yahweh, become, judge, and do justice betwixt me and thee, —that he may see, and plead my cause, and justly deliver me out of thy hand.
16 Hekah ol he David loh Saul taengah a thui boeih phoeiah tah Saul loh, “Ka ca David nang ol dae a?” a ti nah. Te phoeiah Saul loh a ol a huel tih rhap.
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Thy voice, is this, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
And he said unto David, More righteous, art thou than I, for, thou, hast requited me, good, but, I, have requited thee, evil.
18 Tihnin kah na phoe vanbangla kai taengah a then ni na saii pai. Kai he nang kut dongah BOEIPA loh n'det coeng dae kai nang ngawn pawh.
Thou, then, hast told to-day, how thou hast dealt with me, for good, —how, when Yahweh had surrendered me into thy hand, thou didst not slay me.
19 Hlang pakhat loh a thunkha te a hmuh coeng atah longpuei ah a then la a tueih a? Tihnin ah kai taengah na saii te BOEIPA loh nang taengah a then neh n'thuung saeh.
Yet, when a man findeth his enemy, will he let him get easily away? Yahweh, then, give thee, good, reward for what, this day, thou hast done unto me.
Now, therefore, lo! I know that thou, shalt indeed become king, —and that the kingdom of Israel, shall be established in thy hand.
21 Te dongah kamah hnukah ka tii ka ngan na saii pawt ham neh, kai ming te a pa imkhui lamloh na diil sak pawt ham BOEIPA ming neh kamah taengah toemngam laeh,” a ti nah.
Now, therefore, swear unto me by Yahweh, that thou wilt not eat off my seed, after me, —and wilt not destroy my name out of the house my father.
22 Te dongah David loh Saul taengah ol a caeng. Te phoeiah Saul te amah im la cet tih David neh a hlang rhoek tah rhalvong la cet uh.
So David sware unto Saul, —and Saul departed unto his own house, but, David and his men, went up on the stronghold.
