< 1 Samuel 19 >
1 Saul loh a capa Jonathan taengah khaw a sal rhoek taengah khaw David te duek sak hamla boeih a thui pah. Tedae Saul capa Jonathan longtah David te bahoeng a ngaih.
And Saul speaks to his son Jonathan, and to all his servants, to put David to death,
2 Te dongah Jonathan te David taengah a puen tih, “A pa Saul loh nang he duek sak hamla m'mae coeng, te dongah mincang duela ngaithuen uh, yinhnuk ah khosa lamtah thuh uh,
and Jonathan son of Saul delighted in David exceedingly, and Jonathan declares [it] to David, saying, “My father Saul is seeking to put you to death, and now, please take heed in the morning, and you have abided in a secret place and been hidden,
3 Kai khaw ka cet vetih na om nah lohma kah a pa kut dongah kana pai bitni. Te vaengah nang kawng te kamah loh a pa taengah ka thui pah vetih mebang ka hmuh akhaw nang taengah ka puen bitni,” a ti nah.
and I go out, and have stood by the side of my father in the field where you [are], and I speak of you to my father, and have seen what [is coming], and have declared [it] to you.”
4 David kawng te Jonathan loh a napa Saul taengah a then la a thui pah tih, “A sal taeng neh David taengah manghai nang loh lai khueh boeh, anih loh nang taengah lai a khueh van moenih, a khoboe khaw nang taengah bahoeng then.
And Jonathan speaks good of David to his father Saul and says to him, “Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works [are] very good for you;
5 A kut dongah a hinglu te a hmoel tih Philisti a ngawn khaw, BOEIPA loh Israel boeih ham a saii loeihnah tanglue na hmuh vaengah na kohoe ta. Tedae balae tih ommongsitoe thii dongah na tholh vetih, lunglilungla la David a duek eh?,” a ti nah.
indeed, he puts his life in his hand, and strikes the Philistine, and YHWH works a great salvation for all Israel; you have seen, and rejoice, and why do you sin against innocent blood, to put David to death for nothing?”
6 Saul loh Jonathan ol te a yaak vaengah, “BOEIPA kah hingnah rhang neh ka ngawn mahpawh,” tila Saul loh a caeng.
And Saul listens to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swears, “YHWH lives—he does not die.”
7 Te dongah Jonathan loh David te a khue tih olka he khaw anih taengah Jonathan loh boeih a thui pah. Te phoeiah David te Jonathan loh Saul taengla a khuen tih hlaem hlavai kah bangla a mikhmuh ah a om pah.
And Jonathan calls for David, and Jonathan declares all these words to him, and Jonathan brings in David to Saul, and he is before him as before.
8 Caemtloek loh a koei tih a om vaengah David te hlah uh tih Philisti te a vathoh thil. Te vaengah amih te hmasoe len neh a ngawn tih Philisti khaw David mikhmuh lamkah rhaelrham uh.
And there adds to be war, and David goes out and fights against the Philistines, and strikes among them [with] a great striking, and they flee from his face.
9 Tedae BOEIPA kah mueihla thae loh Saul soah a om vaengah tah a kut dongkah caai neh a im khuiah ngol. Te vaengah David loh kut a luem nah.
And a spirit of sadness [from] YHWH is to Saul, and he is sitting in his house, and his javelin [is] in his hand, and David is playing with the hand,
10 Saul loh David neh pangbueng te caai neh daeng rhenten hamla a moeh coeng dae Saul kah mikhmuh ah a phaelhael tak dongah caai te pangbueng dongah tlaeh. David khaw tekah khoyin ah rhaelrham tih a poeng a hal.
and Saul seeks to strike with the javelin through David, and through the wall, and he frees himself from the presence of Saul, and he strikes the javelin through the wall; and David has fled and escapes during that night.
11 Te dongah anih te dawn tih mincang ah ngawn hamla Saul loh David im la puencawn a hlah. Tedae a yuu Mikhal te David taengla puen tih, “Na hinglu ham khoyin ah na loeih pawt koinih thangvuen ah na duek pawn ni,” a ti nah.
And Saul sends messengers to the house of David to watch him, and to put him to death in the morning; and his wife Michal declares [it] to David, saying, “If you are not delivering your life tonight—tomorrow you are put to death.”
12 Te dongah Mikhal loh David te bangbuet longah a suntlak sak tih a caeh sak daengah yong pueng tih a poeng a hal pueng.
And Michal causes David to go down through the window, and he goes on, and flees, and escapes;
13 Te phoeiah Mikhal loh sithui te a loh tih baiphaih dongah a soei. A lu ah maae mul a khueh pah tih himbai neh a khuk.
and Michal takes the teraphim, and lays [it] on the bed, and she has put the mattress of goats’ [hair for] his pillows, and covers [it] with a garment.
14 David te tuuk hamla Saul loh puencawn rhoek a tueih vaengah tah, “David a sa tlo,” a ti nah.
And Saul sends messengers to take David, and she says, “He [is] sick.”
15 Tedae David te sawt hamla Saul loh puencawn rhoek te a tueih tih, “Anih te ngawn hamla baiphaih neh kamah taengla hang khuen uh,” a ti nah.
And Saul sends the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up in the bed to me in order to put him to death.”
16 Tedae baiphaih dongkah sithui vik te a lu dongah maae mul hoeng la puencawn rhoek loh kak a thoeng thiluh.
And the messengers come in, and behold, the teraphim [are] on the bed, and the mattress of goats’ [hair for] his pillows.
17 Te dongah Saul loh Mikhal te, “Balae tih he tluk la kai nam phok, ka thunkha te na tueih tih a loeih,” a ti nah. Te vaengah Mikhal loh Saul te, “Amah loh kai taengah, 'Kai he n'tueih mai,’ a ti balae tih nan duek sak eh,” a ti nah.
And Saul says to Michal, “Why have you thus deceived me—that you send my enemy away, and he escapes?” And Michal says to Saul, “He said to me, Send me away. Why do I put you to death?”
18 David te yong tih a loeih phoeiah Ramah kah Samuel te a paan. Te vaengah Saul loh anih taengah a saii te a taengah boeih a thui pah. Te phoeiah Samuel neh cet rhoi tih Naioth ah om rhoi.
And David has fled, and escapes, and comes to Samuel at Ramath, and declares to him all that Saul has done to him, and he goes, he and Samuel, and they dwell in Naioth.
19 Tedae Saul taengla a puen pa uh tih, “Ramah Naioth ah David om ke,” a ti nah.
And it is declared to Saul, saying, “Behold, David [is] in Naioth in Ramah.”
20 Te dongah David tuuk hamla Saul loh puencawn rhoek te a tueih. Te vaengah tonghma tarhoi te tonghma uh tih amih taengah Samuel cawkdawk la a pai te a hmuh uh. Saul kah puencawn rhoek khaw Pathen Mueihla loh a om thil dongah amih khaw boeih tonghma uh.
And Saul sends messengers to take David, and they see the assembly of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing, set over them, and the Spirit of God is on Saul’s messengers, and they prophesy—they also.
21 Saul taengla a puen uh dongah puencawn a tloe rhoek a tueih hatah amih khaw nunan tonghma uh. Te dongah Saul loh a pathum duela a rhaep tih puencawn rhoek te a tueih hatah amih khaw tonghma uh sumsoek.
And they declare [it] to Saul, and he sends other messengers, and they prophesy—they also; and Saul adds and sends messengers a third time, and they prophesy—they also.
22 Te dongah amah khaw Ramah la cet tih Seku kah tangrhom puei la pawk. Te vaengah a dawt tih, “Samuel neh David ta?,” a ti nah hatah, “Ramah Naioth ah om ke,” a ti na uh.
And he goes—he also—to Ramath, and comes to the great well which [is] in Sechu, and asks and says, “Where [are] Samuel and David?” And [one] says, “Behold, in Naioth in Ramah.”
23 Te dongah Ramah Naioth la pahoi cet. Tedae anih khaw Pathen Mueihla loh a om thil dongah cet cet tih Ramah Naioth a pha duela voek tonghma bal.
And he goes there—to Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God is on him also; and he goes, going on, and he prophesies until his coming to Naioth in Ramah,
24 Amah khaw a himbai a pit tih Samuel mikhmuh ah amah tonghma bal. Te khothaih puet khoyin puet pumtling la yalh. Te dongah, “Saul khaw tonghma khuikah ni nama?” a ti uh.
and he strips off—he also—his garments, and prophesies—he also—before Samuel, and falls down naked all that day and all the night; therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
