1 To tiah nahaeloe Judah kami ah ohhaih timaw atho oh? To tih ai boeh loe tangyat hin aahhaih rang hoiah tih amekhaih maw oh?
So does a Jew have any advantage? Does circumcision have any benefits?
2 Amekhaih congca oh: lokpui koekah, Sithaw lok to nihcae khaeah pakuemsak pongah amekhaih oh.
Yes, there are many benefits! First of all, God's message was entrusted to them.
3 Thoemto kaminawk mah tang o ai nahaeloe kawbangmaw om o tih? Katang ai nihcae khosakhaih mah Sithaw oep ohhaih to amrosak maw?
What if some of them didn't trust in God? Does their lack of trust in God obliterate the trustworthiness of God?
4 To tiah na ai ni: ue, Na thuih ih lok pongah toenghaih na hnu tih, lokcaekhaih na tongh naah na pazawk tih, tiah tarik ih oh baktih toengah, kami boih lok amlai o cadoeh, Sithaw loe loktang ah oh.
Of course not! Even if everyone else is proved to be lying, God always tells the truth. As Scripture says, “What you say will be proved right, and you will win your case when you are judged.”
5 Toe aicae sethaih mah Sithaw toenghaih to amtuengsak nahaeloe, kawbangmaw a thuih o han? Aicae danpaek Sithaw loe toeng ai ah maw oh? (Kami baktiah ni lok ka thuih)
But if the fact that we're wrong helps to show that God is right, what should we conclude? That God is wrong to pronounce judgment on us? (I'm talking from a human perspective here.)
6 To tiah na ai ni: to tiah om nahaeloe Sithaw mah kawbangmaw long hae lokcaek tih?
Of course not! How else could God judge the world?
7 Lok kam laihaih hoiah loktang ah kaom Sithaw lensawkhaih to amtueng aep nahaeloe, tipongah kami zae maeto baktiah kai lokcaekhaih oh vop loe?
Someone could say, “Why am I still condemned as a sinner if my lies make the truth of God and his glory more obvious in contrast?”
8 To tiah nahaeloe tipongah kahoih hmuen tacawt thai hanah, kasae hmuen to sah o ngala si, tiah a thui o ai loe? (To tiah lok a thuih o ti, tiah thoemto kaminawk mah kaicae kasae ang thuih o). To tiah lokthui kami loe lokcaek han krak.
Is it a case of, “Let's sin to bring about good”? That's what some people have slanderously accused us of saying. They should be rightly condemned!
9 To tiah nahaeloe kawbangmaw oh boeh? Aicae loe nihcae pongah hoih kue maw? Hoih ai, hoih kue ai: Judahnawk doeh, Gentelnawk doeh, zaehaih thungah ni oh o boih, tiah kamnoekta ah kang thuih o boeh;
So then, are we Jews better than others? Definitely not! Remember that we've already argued that both Jews and foreigners are under the control of sin.
10 katoeng kami mi doeh om ai, om ai, maeto doeh om ai:
As Scripture says, “No one does what is right, not even one.

No one understands; no one seeks God.

Everyone has turned their backs on him; everyone does what is totally wrong. No one does what is good, not a single one.
13 Nihcae ih aqawnh loe taprong baktiah amongh moe, palai hoiah alinghaih lok to thuih o; nihcae ih pahni ah pahui kasoe to oh:
Their throats are like an open grave; their tongues spread deceit; their lips ooze with the venom of snakes.
14 nihcae ih pakha loe tangoenghaih hoi kakhaa lok hoiah koi:
Their mouths are full of bitterness and curses,
15 athii palong hanah karangah khok takanh o;
and they are quick to cause pain and death.
16 a caeh o haih loklam ah amrohaih hoi patangkhanghaih to oh:
Their way leads to disaster and misery;
17 monghaih loklam nihcae mah panoek o ai:
they don't know how to live in peace.
18 nihcae mik ah Sithaw zithaih roe om ai, tiah Cabu thungah tarik ih oh.
They don't care about respecting God at all.”
19 Kami boih mah lok apae ai ah oh moe, long kaminawk boih Sithaw hmaa ah lokcaek thai hanah, kaalok mah thuih ih hmuennawk boih loe kaalok thungah kaom kaminawk han ih ni thuih, tito vaihi a panoek o boeh.
It's clear that everything in the law applies to those who live under the law so that no one could have any excuses, and to make sure everyone in the whole world is answerable to God.
20 Kaalok mah zaehaih amtuengsak pongah, mi kawbaktih doeh kaalok pazuihaih rang hoiah Anih hmaa ah toenghaih hnu mak ai.
For no one is made right before God by doing what the law requires. The law only helps us recognize what sin really is.
21 Toe vaihi loe kaalok hoi tahmaanawk ih lok mah hnukung ah oh boeh, Sithaw toenghaih loe kaalok pazuihaih hoiah om ai;
But now God's character of goodness and right has been demonstrated. It has nothing to do with law-keeping, even though it was spoken of by the law and the prophets.
22 Sithaw toenghaih loe, kaminawk boih hoi tanghaih tawn kaminawk boih hanah, Jesu Kri tanghaih rang hoiah ni oh; mi kawbaktih doeh lahhaih om ai boeh:
This character of God that is good and right comes to everyone who trusts in Jesus Christ, those who place their confidence in him. It doesn't matter who we are:
23 kami boih zae o boeh moe, Sithaw lensawkhaih to hnu o thai ai boeh;
We have all sinned, and we fall far short of God's glorious ideal.
24 atho paek ai ah Kri Jesu mah akranghaih hoi a tahmenhaih rang hoiah ni toenghaih to a hnuk o:
Yet through the free gift of his grace God makes us right through Christ Jesus who sets us free.
25 Anih patangkhanghaih rang hoiah canghnii ah sak ih zaehaihnawk loe Sithaw mah tahmen boeh; a toenghaih to amtuengsak hanah, anih tanghaih rang hoiah, Angmah ih athii hoiah aicae zuengah tahmen hnikhaih angbawnhaih sak hanah, Sithaw mah to tiah sak boeh.
God openly presented Jesus as the gift that brings peace to those trusting in him, the one who shed his blood. God did this to demonstrate he is truly good and right, for previously he would hold back and pass over sins,
26 Anih loe katoeng kami ah oh, Jesu tanghaih tawn kaminawk toenghaih hnuksak hanah, a toenghaih to vaihi amtuengsak boeh.
but now at this present time God proves he is fair and does what is right, and that he makes right those who trust in Jesus.
27 To tiah nahaeloe amoekhaih loe naa ah maw oh boeh? Amoekhaih loe anghmaat ving boeh. Kawbaktih kaalok pongah maw anghmaat ving? Toksakhaih hoiah maw anghmaat? Toksakhaih hoiah na ai ni; kaalok tanghaih rang hoiah ni.
So do we have anything to boast about then? Absolutely not, there's no place for that! And why's that? Is it because we follow the law of observing requirements? No, we follow the law of trusting in God.
28 To pongah, kami loe kaalok pazui pongah na ai, tanghaih rang hoiah ni toenghaih to hnuk, tito a panoek o.
We conclude that people are made right with God through their trust in him, and not from legal observance.
29 Anih loe Judahnawk ih Sithaw khue maw? Gentelnawk ih Sithaw ah doeh om ai maw? Ue, Gentelnawk ih Sithaw ah doeh oh.
Is God only the God of the Jews? Isn't he the God of other people as well? Of course he is!
30 Sithaw loe maeto ah oh pongah, anih mah tangyat hin aat kami to tanghaih rang hoiah ni toenghaih to hnusak ueloe, tangyat hin aat ai kami doeh tanghaih rang hoiah ni toenghaih to hnusak tih.
There is only one God, and he makes us morally right through our trust in him, whoever we are, Jew or foreigner.
31 To tiah nahaeloe tanghaih rang hoiah aicae mah kaalok a phraek o maw? A phrae o ai, ue, kaalok to ni a cak o sak aep.
Does that mean that by trusting in God we do away with the law? Of course not! In fact we affirm the importance of the law.
