< Palungha Lok 6 >

1 Ka capa, nam pui ih laiba pathok pae hanah lokkamhaih to na sak moe, minawk kalah abomh hanah lokkamhaih na sak moeng pongah,
My son, if thou have become surety for thy neighbour, —have struck for a stranger thy hands,
2 na thuih ih lok pongah na manh moe, na pakha hoi tacawt lok mah na naeh moeng nahaeloe,
Thou hast been snared by the sayings of thy mouth, —thou hast been caught by the sayings of thy mouth.
3 ka capa, nam pui ih ban thungah na krakhaih hoiah na loih thai hanah hae tiah sah ah; nam pui khaeah, Caeh loe, poeknaemhaih hoiah anih tlim ah om paeh; nam pui ban thung hoi loih thai hanah tahmenhaih hni ah.
Do this then, my son, and deliver thyself, When thou hast come into the hand of thy neighbour, Go, haste thee, and urge thy neighbour;
4 Na mik to iipsak hmah loe, angamsak hmah.
Do not give sleep to thine eyes, or slumber to thine eyelashes;
5 Moi kat kami ih ban thung hoiah kaloih tasuk baktih, dongh patung kami ih ban thung hoiah kaloih tavaa baktiah nangmah hoi nangmah to loih ah.
Deliver thyself, as a gazelle out of the hand, and as a bird, out of the hand of the fowler.
6 Nang thasae kami, cahmat khaeah caeh ah, a caehhaih loklamnawk to khen ah loe, palungha ah;
Go to the ant, thou sluggard, observe her ways, and be wise;
7 cahmat loe lam patuekkung hoi thuitaekkung tawn ai, ukkung doeh tawn ai,
Which, having no harvest, scribe, or ruler,
8 toe anih loe nipui tue hoi caang aah tue ah rawkcak to patung.
Prepareth, in the summer, her food, hath collected, in the harvest, her sustenance.
9 Aw thasae kami, nasetto maw na iih han vop? Natuek naah maw iihhaih ahmuen hoiah nang thawk han?
How long, O sluggard, wilt thou lie? how long ere thou rise from thy sleep?
10 Atue setta thungah na iih moe, atue setta thungah na ngam, nawnetta thung nang hak moe, na ban pakhuem duem nathung ah;
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest: —
11 kholong caeh kami baktiah amtanghaih mah na patom ueloe, vawthaih mah maiphaw sin kami baktiah na patom tih.
So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
12 Kasae kami hoi amram aak kami loe lok amlai hoiah ni khosak o;
An abandoned man, a man of iniquity, [is he] who—goeth on in perversity of mouth;
13 minawk aling hanah mikpakhrip thuih, khok hoiah angmathaih a paek moe, banpazungnawk hoiah patuk o;
Winketh with his eyes, speaketh with his foot, pointeth with his fingers;
14 anih loe palung thungah alinghaih to koi moe, kahoih ai poekhaih to vaa thai ai, maeto hoi maeto misa angcoengsak hanah a poek.
[Hath] perverse things in his heart, deviseth mischief on every occasion, strifes, he sendeth forth.
15 To pongah nihcae loe poek ai pui hoi amrohaih mah pha thui tih; abuephaih om ai ah nawnetta thung amro tih.
For this cause, suddenly cometh his doom, in a moment, shall he be torn in pieces and there be no mending.
16 Angraeng mah hnukma ih hmuen tarukto oh; ue, panuet thok hmuen sarihto oh;
These six things, doth Yahweh hate, yea, seven, are the abomination of his soul: —
17 amoek kami ih mik tamdai, amsawnlok thui thaih palai, zaehaih tawn ai kami humhaih ban,
Eyes that are lofty, a tongue that is false, and hands shedding innocent blood;
18 kasae poekhaih palungthin, hmuesae sakhaih bangah caeh karang khok,
A heart contriving iniquitous devices, feet hasting to run into mischief;
19 amsawnlok pongah hnukungah kaom, nawkamya poek amkhraeng han sah kaminawk hae ni.
One that uttereth lies—a false witness, and one sending forth strifes between brethren.
20 Ka capa, nam pa lokpaekhaih to pakuemh loe, nam no patukhaih doeh pahnawt hmah;
Observe thou, my son, the commandment of thy father, and do not decline from the instruction of thy mother:
21 na palung thungah zaeng ah loe, na tahnong ah kom caeng ah.
Bind them upon thy heart continually, fasten them upon thy neck;
22 Na caehhaih loklam to anih mah patuek tih; na iih naah na toep ueloe, nang lawt naah, lok na thui tih.
When thou walkest abroad, it shall guide thee, when thou sleepest, it shall watch over thee, when thou wakest, it shall speak to thee:
23 Lokpaekhaih loe hmaithaw ah oh; patukhaih lok loe aanghaih ah oh; zae thuitaekhaih loe hinghaih loklam ah oh.
For, a lamp, is the commandment, and, the instruction, a light, and, the way of life, are the reproofs of correction:
24 Kahoih ai nongpata, lok hoiah minawk kazoek thaih nongpata khae hoiah na pakaa tih.
To keep thee from the wicked woman, from the flattery of the tongue of her that is a stranger.
25 Nongpata kranghoihaih to khit hmah, a mik pakhriphaih pongah aman hmah.
Do not covet her beauty, in thy heart, neither let her take thee, by her eyelashes;
26 Tangyat zawhhaih hoiah takaw kae maeto ni qan thai tih; sava laep ah zaehaih sah nongpata loe atho kana hinghaih to amrosak thaih.
Because, for the sake of an impure woman, [a man may be brought] even to a cake of bread, —and, a man’s wife, for a precious soul, may hunt!
27 Kami mah angmah ih saoek hmai hoi thlaek naah, angmah ih laihaw to hmai mah kangh mak ai maw?
Can a man snatch up fire in his bosom, and, his clothes, not be burned?
28 Kami mah hmai nuiah caeh naah, a khok to hmai mah kangh mak ai maw?
Or can a man walk upon hot coals, and, his feet, not be burned?
29 Na imtaeng kami ih zu khaeah caeh kami doeh to tiah oh; mi kawbaktih doeh to nongpata sui kami loe, zaehaih hoiah loih thai ai.
So, he that goeth in unto his neighbour’s wife, no man shall be guiltless who toucheth her!
30 Zok amthlam pongah zok amthlamhaih dipsak hanah paqu kami loe, mi mah doeh kasae thui mak ai.
Men despise not a thief, when he stealeth, to satisfy his appetite, because he is famished;
31 Kamqu to naeh naah alet sarihto pathoksak moe, a tawnh ih hmuennawk boih paeksak han oh.
Yet, if found, he must pay back sevenfold, All the substance of his house, must he give:
32 Toe zu laep ah nongpata hoi zaehaih sah kami loe, poekhaih tawn ai kami ah ni oh; to kami loe a hinghaih amrosak kami ah oh.
He that committeth adultery with a woman, lacketh sense, A destroyer of his own life, is he that doeth it;
33 Anih to bop o tih, a nuiah khingyahaih tawn o mak ai; anih kasae thuihaih loe boeng thai mak ai.
Smiting and shame, shall he find, and, his reproach, shall not be wiped out;
34 Zu nuiah palung haenghaih mah sava to palungphuisak; to pongah danpaekhaih tue phak naah tahmenhaih roe tawn mak ai.
For, jealousy, is the rage of a man, nor will he spare, in the day of avenging;
35 Kawbaktih ronghaih phoisa doeh koeh mak ai, tangqum paroeai paek cadoeh palungphui dip mak ai.
He will not look, at any ransom, neither will he consent, though thou increase the bribe.
