< Palungha Lok 24 >

1 Kasae kaminawk to awt hmah; nihcae hoi angkom han doeh poek hmah.
Have no envy for evil men, or any desire to be with them:
2 Nihcae loe palung thung hoi amro han khue ni poek o, pahni hoiah raihaih sak han khue to a thuih o.
For the purposes of their hearts are destruction, and their lips are talking of trouble.
3 Im loe palunghahaih hoiah sak moe, panoekhaih hoiah caksak;
The building of a house is by wisdom, and by reason it is made strong:
4 palunghahaih mah imkhaannawk to atho kana hmuenmae, koeh kaom hmuennawk hoiah koisak.
And by knowledge its rooms are full of all dear and pleasing things.
5 Palungha kami loe thacak; ue, palunghahaih tawn kami loe thacakhaih pung aep.
A wise man is strong; and a man of knowledge makes strength greater.
6 Palungha kami khae hoi poekhaih lak pacoengah, misa tuh ah; ngancuem hanah kahoih poekhaih paekkung pop tawnh han angaih.
For by wise guiding you will overcome in war: and in a number of wise guides there is salvation.
7 Palunghahaih loe sang pongah kamthu mah pha thai ai; kami pop amkhuenghaih khongkha ah lokthui thai ai.
Wisdom is outside the power of the foolish: he keeps his mouth shut in the public place.
8 Kahoih ai hmuen sak pacaeng kami loe raihaih sah kami ni, tiah kawk o tih.
He whose purposes are bad will be named a man of evil designs.
9 Kamthu poekhaih loe zaehaih ah oh, minawk pahnui thuih kami loe panuet thoh.
The purpose of the foolish is sin: and the hater of authority is disgusting to others.
10 Raihaih phak naah palung boeng nahaeloe, thazok kami ah ni na oh.
If you give way in the day of trouble, your strength is small.
11 Duekhaih loklam ah zaeh ih kami to pahlong ah; humhaih ahmuen ah caehhaih ih kami to hoi let ah.
Be the saviour of those who are given up to death, and do not keep back help from those who are slipping to destruction.
12 Khenah, hae kawng hae ka panoek ai, tiah na thuih nahaeloe, palungthin khenkung mah panoek mak ai maw? Na hinghaih khenkung mah panoek mak ai maw? Kami mah sak ih hmuen baktiah anih mah pathok mak ai maw?
If you say, See, we had no knowledge of this: does not the tester of hearts give thought to it? and he who keeps your soul, has he no knowledge of it? and will he not give to every man the reward of his work?
13 Ka capa, khoitui loe hoih pongah nae ah; khoi lutui loe pataeng naah luep dueng;
My son, take honey, for it is good; and the flowing honey, which is sweet to your taste:
14 to baktih toengah palunghahaih loe na hing thungah luep tih; na hnuk naah nang han tangqum ah om tih; na oephaih anghma mak ai.
So let your desire be for wisdom: if you have it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
15 Aw katoeng ai kami, katoeng kami ih im to toep hmah; anih ohhaih ahmuen to amrosak hmah;
Do not keep a secret watch, O evil-doer, against the fields of the upright man, or send destruction on his resting-place:
16 katoeng kami loe vai sarihto amtim cadoeh, angthawk let tih; toe kasae kami loe raihaih mah amtimsak tih.
For an upright man, after falling seven times, will get up again: but trouble is the downfall of the evil.
17 Na misa amtim naah anghoe hmah; anih amthaek naah palung anghoe hmah;
Do not be glad at the fall of your hater, and let not your heart have joy at his downfall:
18 nang hoe nahaeloe Angraeng mah hnu ueloe, poeknawm mak ai, to kami nuiah Anih palungphuihaih to dip ving tih.
For fear that the Lord may see it, and it may be evil in his eyes, and his wrath may be turned away from him.
19 Kahoih ai kami pongah palungboeng hmah; kahoih ai kami doeh awt hmah;
Do not be troubled because of evil-doers, or have envy of sinners:
20 kasae kami loe hmabang kaom oephaih to tawn ai; kasae kami ih hmaithaw loe paduek pae ving tih.
For there will be no future for the evil man; the light of sinners will be put out.
21 Ka capa, Angraeng hoi siangpahrang to zii ah; misa angthawk koeh kami hoiah angkom hmah;
My son, go in fear of the Lord and the king: have nothing to do with those who are in high positions:
22 akra ai ah nihcae nuiah amrohaih pha tih; kawbaktih raihaih maw nihcae mah omsak tih, tito mi mah maw panoek thai tih?
For their downfall will come suddenly; and who has knowledge of the destruction of those in high positions?
23 Hae baktih hmuennawk doeh palungha kami mah thuih ih lok ah ni oh. Lok takroek naah mikhmai khet han hoih ai.
These are more sayings of the wise: To have respect for a person's position when judging is not good.
24 Kasae kami khaeah, Nang loe na toeng, tiah thui kami loe minawk mah kasae thui o ueloe, prae kaminawk mah panuet o tih.
He who says to the evil-doer, You are upright, will be cursed by peoples and hated by nations.
25 Toe minawk thuitaekkung loe poeknawm ueloe, tahamhoihaih to hnu tih.
But those who say sharp words to him will have delight, and a blessing of good will come on them.
26 Kami boih mah toenghaih lokthui kami ih pahni to mok o tih.
He gives a kiss with his lips who gives a right answer.
27 Tasa bang ih tok to sah hmaloe ah, nangmah hanah laikok atok pacoengah, na ohhaih im to sah ah.
Put your work in order outside, and make it ready in the field; and after that, see to the building of your house.
28 Takung om ai ah na imtaeng kami to zaehaih net hmah; alinghaih lok thui hmah.
Do not be a violent witness against your neighbour, or let your lips say what is false.
29 Kai khaeah sak ih hmuen baktih toengah, anih nuiah doeh ka sak toeng han; a sak ih hmuen baktih toengah ka pathok let han, tiah thui hmah.
Say not, I will do to him as he has done to me; I will give the man the reward of his work.
30 Thasae kami ih lawk ah ka caeh moe, poekhaih tawn ai kami ih misur takha thungah ka caeh naah,
I went by the field of the hater of work, and by the vine-garden of the man without sense;
31 khenah, soekhring cing ah oh, long doeh phroh cing ah oh; thlung hoi pakaa ih sipae doeh amtimh boih.
And it was all full of thorns, and covered with waste plants, and its stone wall was broken down.
32 Ka hnuk ih hmuen to palung thung hoi ka poek het naah, ka khet ih hmuen nuiah amtuk han koi ka hnuk.
Then looking at it, I gave thought: I saw, and I got teaching from it.
33 Nawnetta iih, nawnetta iih angam, iih hanah nawnetta thungah ban pakhuem moe, nang hak nathuem ah,
A little sleep, a little rest, a little folding of the hands in sleep:
34 amtanghaih mah kholong caeh kami baktih, vawthaih mah maiphaw sin kami baktiah na pha thui tih.
So loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man.
