1 Angraenghaih pongah loe ahmin hoihhaih to qoih han hoih kue; sui hoi sumkanglung pongah doeh amlunghaih to koeh kue han oh.
A good name is preferable to abundant riches, and good grace, to silver and to gold.
2 Long angraeng hoi kamtang anghmonghaih loe hae tiah oh: nihnik loe Sithaw mah ni sak hmaek.
The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker them all.
3 Khopoek thaih kami loe raihaih to hnukcoek pongah ayae ving; toe poekhaih tidoeh tawn ai kami loe caeh moe, raihaih to tongh.
The prudent foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
4 Minawk tlim ah khosakhaih hoi Angraeng zithaih mah angraenghaih, pakoehhaih hoi hinghaih to tacawtsak.
The reward of humility [and] the fear of the Lord are riches and honor, and life.
5 Poek angkawn kami caehhaih loklam loe soekhring hoi thaang hoiah koi; toe a hinghaih angvaeng kami mah loe ahmuen kangthla ah amhoe taak ving.
Thorns and snares are on the way of a perverse man: he that doth guard his soul will keep far from them.
6 Nawkta mah pazui han ih loklam to patuk ah; to naah ni a qoeng tahang naah, to loklam hoiah amkhraeng mak ai.
Train up the lad in accordance with his course: even when he groweth old, will he not depart from it.
7 Angraeng kami mah kamtang kami to uk, hmuenmae coi kami loe coisakkung ih tamna ah oh.
A rich man ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the man that lendeth.
8 Sethaih amu haeh kami loe sethaih to aat tih; anih palungphuihaih quiboeng loe amro tih.
He that soweth injustice will reap wrong-doing; and the rod of God's wrath will not fail.
9 Kami tahmenhaih mik to tawnh moe, amtang kami han paek koehhaih palungthin hoiah paek kami loe tahamhoih tih.
A man of a benevolent eye will indeed be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10 Minawk khet patoek kami to haek oh, lok angaekhaih to amding tih; angzoehhaih hoi kasae thuihaih doeh boeng tih.
Drive away the scorner, and strife will go off; and then will cease contention and dishonor.
11 Poektoeng kami loe, tahmenhaih hoiah lokthuih pongah, siangpahrang loe anih ih ampui ah om tih.
He that loveth with a pure heart, and hath grace on his lips, will have the king as his friend.
12 Angraeng ih mik mah loe palunghahaih lok to pakaa moe, zaehaih sak koeh kami ih loknawk loe tiah doeh sah pae ai.
The eyes of the Lord guard knowledge, and he overturneth the words of the treacherous.
13 Thasae kami loe tasa bangah kaipui oh! Minawk mah na hum tih, tiah thuih.
The slothful saith, There is a lion without, in the midst of the streets shall I be murdered.
14 Sava laep ah zaehaih sah nongpata ih pakha loe kathuk tangqom ah oh; Angraeng mah panuet ih kami loe to tangqom thungah krah tih.
A deep pit is the mouth of adulterous women: he that hath obtained the indignation of the Lord will fall thereinto.
15 Nawkta ih palung loe amthuhaih mah zaeng; toe thuitaekhaih cung mah to amthuhaih to kangthla ah haek ving tih.
When folly is bound fast to the heart of a lad, the rod of correction must remove it far from him.
16 Angraeng thai hanah amtang kaminawk to pacaekthlaek moe, angraeng kami hanah tamquta hoiah tangqum paek kami loe amtang tih.
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, [must at length] give to the rich, and come only to want.
17 Naa to patueng ah loe palungha kami ih loknawk to tahngai ah; ka palunghahaih hae na palung thungah khrum ah.
Incline thy ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart unto my knowledge.
18 Palung thungah na khrum nahaeloe anghoehaih ah om tih; na pahni ah doeh suem ah.
For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thy bosom, if they be altogether firmly seated upon thy lips.
19 Angraeng ah nam ha thai hanah, vaihniah kang patuk boeh.
That thy trust may be in the Lord, have I made them known to thee this day, yea, even to thee.
20 Kahoih koek poekhaih hoi palunghahaih loknawk to kang tarik pae boeh,
Have not I written for thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21 loktang lok to na panoek thaih moe, nang khae patoeh ih kaminawk khaeah, loktang lok na thuih pae let thai hanah, kang pat boeh na ai maw?
That I might make thee know rectitude, the sayings of truth; that thou mightest bring back answers of truth to those that send thee?
22 Amtang pongah kamtang ih hmuen to lomh pae o hmah; patangkhang kami to lokcaekhaih ahmuen ah pacaekthlaek o hmah.
Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither crush the afflicted in the gate;
23 Angraeng mah nihcae kawng to thui ueloe, nihcae hinghaih paro kami to amrosak toeng tih.
For the Lord will plead their cause, and despoil the life of those that despoil them.
24 Poek amthueng kami to ampui ah sah hmah; palungphui thaih kami hoi nawnto caeh hmah;
Make no friendship with a man given to anger; and with a man of fury thou must have no intercourse:
25 anih ih kuu na la moeng ueloe, na hinghaih to thaang pongah aman moeng tih.
Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare for thy own soul.
26 Minawk ih laiba pathok pae hanah lokmaihaih sah hmah, to tih ai boeh loe lokkamhaih to sah hmah.
Be not one of those that pledge their hand, or of those that are sureties for debts.
27 Laiba pathok hanah phoisa na tawn ai nahaeloe, na iihkhun to na paek han maw?
If thou have nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
28 Nam panawk mah quenh tangcae ih prae angzithaih ramri to pathui hmah.
Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have established.
29 Kahoih ah toksah kami to na hnuk maw? To kami loe kami rumram ih toksah mak ai, siangpahrang ih tok ni sah tih.
Seest thou a man that is diligent in his work? before kings may he place himself: let him not place himself before obscure men.
