1 Imthung koi mongah sak ih angbawnhaih buh to angzoehhaih hoiah caak pongah loe, buh karoem zetta poek monghaih hoiah caak to hoih kue.
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than a house full of feasting [with] strife.
2 Palungha tamna loe kahoih ai imkung ih capa to uk tih, anih loe a caanawk hoi nawnto qawk to toep tih.
A wise servant shall rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part in the inheritance among the brethren.
3 Sumkanglung tui pacii hanah laom to patoh baktih toengah, sui tui pacii hanah hmai kamngaeh to patoh; toe Angraeng loe kami ih palung to tanoem.
The fining-pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but Jehovah trieth the hearts.
4 Kahoih ai hmuen sah kami loe lok amlai kami mah thuih ih lok to tang; amsawnlok thui kami doeh loksae to tahngaih.
The evil-doer giveth heed to iniquitous lips; the liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Mithoe hnaphnae kami loe anih Sahkung hnaphnae kami ah ni oh; minawk raihaih tong naah anghoe kami loe danpaekhaih to loih mak ai.
Whoso mocketh a poor [man] reproacheth his Maker; he that is glad at calamity shall not be held innocent.
6 Caanawk ih caa patoeng loe mitongnawk hanah sui lumuek ah oh, amno ampa loe caanawk lensawkhaih ah oh.
Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Kahoih lok loe kamthu hoi amcuk ai baktih toengah, amsawnlok doeh ukkung angraeng hoi amcuk ai.
Excellent speech becometh not a vile [man]; how much less do lying lips a noble!
8 Tangqum loe hak kami hanah atho kana thlung baktiah oh; a caehhaih ahmuen kruekah, tahamhoihaih oh.
A gift is a precious stone in the eyes of the possessor: whithersoever it turneth it prospereth.
9 Minawk zaehaih tahmen kami loe amlunghaih to pungsak; toe zaehaih tahmen ai kami loe ampui to ampraeksak.
He that covereth transgression seeketh love; but he that bringeth a matter up again separateth very friends.
10 Kamthu loe quiboeng hoi cumvaito boh cadoeh poek amkhrai mak ai; palungha loe thuitaekhaih lok to thaih kop.
A reproof entereth more deeply into him that hath understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.
11 Kahoih ai kami loe lokaek han khue ni pakrong; to pongah tahmenhaih tawn ai laicaeh to anih khaeah patoeh tih.
An evil [man] seeketh only rebellion; but a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Palungkraeng kamthu khaeah caeh moe, raihaih tong pongah loe, taqom caa lomh pae to hoih kue.
Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Hmuenhoih to hmuensae hoiah pathok kami loe, kahoih ai hmuen mah a im to caehtaak mak ai.
Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Angzoehhaih loe kamsah tui hoiah anghmong; to pongah angzoehhaih om ai naah to hmuen to toengh sut ah.
The beginning of contention is [as] when one letteth out water; therefore leave off strife before it become vehement.
15 Zaehaih sah kami to loisak lat kami, to tih ai boeh loe katoeng kami zaehaih net lat kami hnik to Angraeng mah panuet hmaek.
He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are abomination to Jehovah.
16 Kamthu loe palunghahaih koeh ai pongah, kamthu ban ah paek ih phoisa loe tih atho maw oh?
To what purpose is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing [he] hath no sense?
17 Ampui loe amlunghaih tawnh poe; nawkamya loe karai tonghaih atue nathuem han ih ni tapen.
The friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18 Poekhaih tawn ai kami loe coi ih phoisa to pathok pae hanah, angmah ih ampui hmaa ah lokkamhaih to sak.
A senseless man striketh hands, becoming surety for his neighbour.
19 Angzoeh koeh kami loe zae sakhaih doeh koeh; angmah ih khongkha amoek haih kami loe amrohaih ni pakrong.
He loveth transgression that loveth a quarrel; he that maketh high his gate seeketh destruction.
20 Poektoeng ai kami loe khosak hoihaih tawn ai; amsawnlok thui palai loe raihaih tongh.
He that hath a perverse heart findeth no good; and he that shifteth about with his tongue falleth into evil.
21 Kamthu tapen kami loe tapenkung to palungsetsak; kamthu ih ampa loe anghoehaih tawn ai.
He that begetteth a fool [doeth it] to his sorrow, and the father of a vile [man] hath no joy.
22 Poeknawmhaih loe kahoih tasi ah oh; toe palungsethaih mah ahuh to zaeksak.
A joyful heart promoteth healing; but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
23 Kasae kami loe toenghaih loklam angkawnsak hanah, bokhaih ah paek ih tangqum to lak.
A wicked [man] taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the paths of judgment.
24 Palungha kami loe panoekhaih to tawnh; toe kamthu ih mik loe long boenghaih khoek to khet parui.
Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25 Capa kamthu mah ampa palungsetsak, anih cunkung to palungboengsak.
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
26 Katoeng kami to danpaek han hoih ai; toenghaih hoiah lokcaek angraeng doeh danpaek han om ai.
To punish a righteous [man] is not good, nor to strike nobles because of [their] uprightness.
27 Palungha kami loe poek het pacoengah ni lok to thuih; panoekhaih tawn kami loe angam duem.
He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of a cool spirit.
28 Lokpae ai ah om duem kami loe, kamthu mataeng doeh palungha kami ah poek o moe, palai angsum thaih kami doeh khopoek thaih kami ah poek o.
Even a fool when he holdeth his peace is reckoned wise, [and] he that shutteth his lips, intelligent.
