< Palungha Lok 1 >
1 Haenawk loe Israel siangpahrang, David capa, Solomon ih palungha lok ah oh;
The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, King of Israel:
2 palungha lok mah palunghahaih, thuitaekhaih hoi kathuk lokhlongnawk panoekhaih to na paek tih;
For the knowledge of wisdom and correction, for discerning the sayings of intelligence;
3 thuitaek thaihaih, katoeng ah lokcaekhaih, kangvan ah lok takroekhaih to na hnu tih;
For receiving the correction of prudence, righteousness and justice, and equity;
4 kami rumramnawk khaeah palunghahaih to paek ueloe, thendoeng mah panoekhaih hoi poek thaihaih to tawn tih.
For giving To the simple shrewdness, To the young man, knowledge and discretion.
5 Palungha kami loe lok tahngai ueloe, panoekhaih to pung tih; panoekhaih tawn kami loe palungha kami mah thuih ih lok to talawk tih;
A wise man, will hear, and will increase learning, and a, discreet man, wise counsels, will acquire,
6 palungha lok hoi patahhaih loknawk, palungha kami mah thuih ih palunghahaih lok hoi kathuk loknawk to panoek thai hanah,
By gaining discernment of proverb, and satire, the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7 Sithaw zithaih loe palunghahaih takung ah oh; toe amthu mah loe palunghahaih hoi thuitaekhaih to patoek.
The reverence of Yahweh, is the beginning of knowledge, Wisdom and correction, the foolish have despised.
8 Ka capa, nam pa thuitaekhaih lok to tahngaih loe, nam no mah patukhaih to pahnawt sut hmah.
Hear, my son, the correction of thy father, and do not reject the instruction of thy mother;
9 To tiah thuitaekhaih hoi patukhaih loe na lu hanah apawk lumuek baktih, na tahnong hanah bungmu ah om tih.
For, a wreath of beauty, shall they be to thy head, and chains of ornament, to thy neck.
10 Ka capa, kami zaenawk mah na zoek cadoeh, nihcae ih lok to tahngai hmah.
My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent.
11 Nihcae mah, Kaicae hnuk ah na bang ah, kami athii palong hanah zing si loe, zaehaih tawn ai kaminawk to angang si;
If they say—Come with us, —Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us watch in secret for him who is needlessly innocent;
12 nihcae to taprong baktih, tangqom thungah caeh kaminawk baktiah, kahing ah paaeh boih si; (Sheol )
Let us engulf them, like hades, alive, While in health, like them who are going down to the pit; (Sheol )
13 to tiah nahaeloe atho kana hmuenmae to a hnu o ueloe, aicae ih im doeh minawk khae hoi lomh ih hmuenmae hoiah koi tih;
All costly substance, shall we find, We shall fill our houses with spoil;
14 kaicae hoi nawnto taham khethaih phoisa to va ah; a hnuk o ih phoisa doeh kangvan ah amzet si, tiah na naa o cadoeh,
Thy lot, shalt thou cast into our midst, One purse, shall there be, for us all.
15 ka capa, nihcae hnukah bang hmah; nihcae caehhaih loklam ah caeh hmah:
My son, do not walk in the way with them, Withhold thy foot from their path.
16 nihcae loe zaehaih sak hanah cawnh o moe, athii palong hanah angtawt rang o.
For, their feet, to mischief, do run, and haste to the shedding of blood.
17 Tavaa mah hnuk naah palok payang nahaeloe tih atho maw om tih!
Surely, in vain, is spread the net, in the sight of aught that hath wings!
18 To baktih kaminawk loe angmacae athii long hanah zing o moe, angmacae hinghaih lak han ih ni angang o!
Yet, they, for their own blood, lie in wait, They watch in secret for their own life.
19 Amsoem ai ah hmuen hak koeh hmoek kaminawk boih loe, hnukkhuem ah angmacae hinghaih to ni a lak o.
Such are the ways of every one that graspeth with greed, The life of the owners thereof, it taketh away!
20 Palunghahaih loe tasa bangah hangh moe, loklamnawk ah tha hoiah a hangh;
Wisdom, in the open place, soundeth forth, in the broadways, she raiseth her voice;
21 kami angpophaih ahmuennawk hoi vangpui khongkhanawk ah a hangh; vangpui thungah a hang ih loknawk loe,
At the head of bustling streets, she crieth aloud, —at the openings of the gates in the city—her sayings, she doth utter: —
22 nangcae kami rumramnawk, khosak rumramhaih to nasetto maw na palung o han vop? Nangcae loe minawk mah pahnuithuihaih to na koeh o, amthu kaminawk loe palunghahaih to nasetto maw hnuma o vop tih?
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and, scoffers, in scoffing, delight them? and, dullards, hate knowledge?
23 Kang thuitaek o haih lok hae tahngai oh loe, amlaem oh; khenah, ka muithla nangcae nuiah ka kraih moe, ka thuih ih loknawk to kang panoek o sak han.
Will ye turn, at my reproof? Lo! I will pour out to you my spirit, I will make known my words to you.
24 Kang kawk o naah, nang maak o; ka ban payangh naah, tidoeh nang sah o ai;
Because I called, and ye refused, I stretched out my hand, and no one regarded;
25 kang thuih ih lok to tidoeh na sah o ai moe, kang thuitaek o haih lok doeh na tahngai o ai pongah,
But ye dismissed all my counsel, and, to my rebuke, would not yield,
26 raihaih na tongh o naah kang pahnuih thuih moe, zithaih na tongh o naah,
I also, at your calamity, will laugh, I will mock, when cometh your dread;
27 na nuiah raihaih mah takhi sae baktiah phak moe, amrohaih mah takhi kamhae baktiah angzoh thuih naah, palungsethaih hoi raihaih mah na nuiah krak thuih naah doeh kang pahnui o thuih toeng han:
When cometh as a crashing your dread, and, your calamity, as a storm-wind, overtaketh, when there come upon you, distress and anguish.
28 Kai nang kawk o naah, kang pathim o mak ai; nihcae mah kai to pakrong o tih, toe na hnu o mak ai.
Then, will they call me, but I will not answer, they will seek me diligently, but shall not find me.
29 Nihcae loe palunghahaih to hnukma o, Angraeng zithaih to qoi o ai.
Because they hated knowledge, and, the reverence of Yahweh, did not choose;
30 Ka thuih ih lok to nihcae mah tahngai o ai, ka zoehhaih loknawk boih doeh patoek o.
Consented not to my counsel, disdained all my rebuke,
31 To pongah nihcae mah a caeh o haih loklam ih athaih to caa o ueloe, sak han a poek o ih hmuen hoiah koi o tih.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and, with their own counsels, be filled.
32 Poekhaih tawn ai kaminawk loe loklam amkhraeng o moe, duek o; amthu kaminawk khosakhoihaih loe angmacae amrohaih ah oh.
For, the turning away of the simple, will slay them, —and, the carelessness of dullards, will destroy them.
33 Toe ka lok tahngai kami loe ngancuem ueloe, kasae zithaih om ai ah monghaih hoiah khosah tih.
Whereas, he that hearkeneth unto me, shall dwell safely, and be at rest, without dread of misfortune.
