< Nambar 35 >
1 Jeriko vangpui maeto bang, Jordan vapui taengah kaom, Moab azawn ah Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah,
And YHWH speaks to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, [near] Jericho, saying,
2 Israel kaminawk mah toep o ih prae thungah Levi kaminawk ohhaih vangpui hoi a taengah kaom ahmuennawk boih to paek ah.
“Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites cities to inhabit from the inheritance of their possession; you also give [the] outskirt around them, of the cities, to the Levites.
3 Levi kaminawk loe to vangpuinawk thungah om o tih, vangpui taeng ih ahmuennawk loe maitaw, moinawk hoi a tawnh o ih hmuennawk suekhaih ahmuen ah om tih.
And the cities have been for them to inhabit, and their outskirts are for their livestock, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
4 Levi kaminawk han paek ih vangpui taeng ih ahmuennawk loe, vangpui sipae hoi dong sangto kawksak han oh.
And the outskirts of the cities which you give to the Levites [are], from the wall of the city and outside, one thousand cubits around.
5 Vangpui tasa bang hoi aluek, aloih, ni angyae hoi niduem bang to dong sang hnetto kakawk ah tah ah; vangpui loe a um ah om tih; vangpui taeng ih ahmuen loe to tiah om tih.
And you have measured from the outside of the city: the east quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter—two thousand by the cubit; and the city [is] in the midst; this is the outskirts of the cities to them.
6 Levi kaminawk han paek ih vangpui taruktonawk loe, kami hum moeng naah abuephaih vangpui ah patoh hanah sah paeh; to vangpuinawk pacoengah kalah vangpui qui pali, hnetto doeh thap paeh.
And the cities which you give to the Levites [are] the six cities of refuge, which you give for the fleeing there of the manslayer, and besides them you give forty-two cities;
7 Levinawk na paek han ih vangpuinawk loe qui pali, tazetto om tih; vangpui taeng ih ahmuennawk hoi nawnto paek ah.
all the cities which you give to the Levites [are] forty-eight cities, them and their outskirts.
8 To vangpuinawk loe Israel kaminawk mah toep ih ahmuen thung hoiah tapraek paeh; ahmuen kapop ah tawn kami khae hoiah kapop ah la ah loe, ahmuen zetta tawn kami khae hoiah zetta ah la ah; kami boih qawktoep ih ahmuennawk thung hoiah Levinawk hanah paek oh, tiah a naa.
And the cities which you give [are] from the possession of the sons of Israel; from the many you multiply, and from the few you diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, gives to the Levites from his cities.”
9 To pacoengah Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah,
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
10 Israel kaminawk khaeah hae tiah thui paeh; Kanaan prae ah caeh hanah Jordan vapui to nang kat o naah,
“Speak to the sons of Israel, and you have said to them: When you are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,
11 poek ai pui hoi kami hum moeng kami loe cawnh moe, abuep hanah vangpui to qoi ah.
and have prepared cities for yourselves—they are cities of refuge to you—then a manslayer, striking a person through ignorance, has fled there,
12 To vangpuinawk loe, poek ai pui hoi kami hum moeng kami, rangpui hma ah lokcaek han angdoe ai karoek to, lu la kami ih ban thung hoiah duek han ai ah, abuephaih vangpui ah om tih.
and the cities have been for a refuge to you from the redeemer, and the manslayer does not die until his standing before the congregation for judgment.
13 To tiah na paek ih vangpui taruktonawk loe na buephaih vangpui ah om tih.
As for the cities which you give, six [are] cities of refuge to you;
14 Abuep haih hanah Jordan vapui hae bangah vangpui thumto, Kanaan prae ah vangpui thumto sah paeh.
three of the cities you give from beyond the Jordan, and three of the cities you give in the land of Canaan; they are cities of refuge.
15 Hae vangpui taruktonawk loe Israel kaminawk, angvinnawk hoi nihcae salakah kaom kaminawk abuephaih ah om tih; poek ai pui hoi kami hum moeng kami loe to vangpui thungah cawnh han oh.
For sons of Israel, and for a sojourner, and for a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing there of anyone striking a person through ignorance.
16 Kami maeto mah sumboeng hoiah kami to bop maat nahaeloe, anih loe kami humkung ah oh; kami humkung loe paduek han oh.
And if he has struck him with an instrument of iron, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
17 Kami maeto hum hanah, thlung hoiah va maat nahaeloe, anih loe kami humkung ah oh; kami humkung loe, paduek han oh.
And if he has struck him with a stone [in] the hand, with which he could die, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
18 Kami maeto mah a ban ah sin ih thingboeng hoiah kami to bop maat nahaeloe, anih loe kami humkung ah oh; kami humkung loe paduek han oh.
Or [if] he has struck him with a wooden instrument [in] the hand, with which he could die, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
19 Athii tho lu la kami mah kami hum kami to hum tih; anih to hnuk naah hum tih.
The redeemer of blood puts the murderer to death himself; in his coming against him he puts him to death.
20 Kami maeto loe hnukma pongah kami to a thunh maw, to tih ai boeh loe hum hanah angang moe, hmuen maeto hoiah a vah maat maw;
And if he pushes him in hatred, or has cast [anything] at him by lying in wait, and he dies,
21 to tih ai boeh loe hnukma pongah ban hoiah a boh naah, kami to dueh ving nahaeloe, to tiah bop kami to paduek han oh.
or he has struck him with his hand in enmity, and he dies, the striker is certainly put to death; he [is] a murderer; the redeemer of blood puts the murderer to death in his coming against him.
22 Toe pacaenghaih om ai ah kami maeto mah poek ai pui hoiah nuih moeng maw, to tih ai boeh loe patoemhaih om ai ah hmuen maeto hoiah vah moeng maw,
And if, in an instant, without enmity, he has pushed him, or has cast any instrument at him without lying in wait,
23 to tih ai boeh loe anih hoi misa ah om ai, hnukmahaih doeh om ai; to kami to hnu ai pongah thlung hoiah va maat moeng nahaeloe, anih hoi misa ah om ai, hum han pacaenghaih doeh om ai pongah,
or with any stone with which he could die, without seeing, indeed, causes [it] to fall on him, and he dies, and he [is] not his enemy, nor seeking his evil,
24 hae lokcaekhaih daan baktih toengah, athii tho lu la kami hoi kadueh kami salakah rangpui mah lokcaek tih;
then the congregation has judged between the striker and the redeemer of blood by these judgments.
25 rangpui mah poek ai pui hoiah kami hum moeng kami to athii tho lu la kami ih ban thung hoiah la ueloe, cawnh moe abuep han koi vangpui thungah caehsak tih; anih loe to ahmuen ah kaciim situi hoi bawh ih kalen koek qaima dueh ai karoek to om tih.
And the congregation has delivered the manslayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the congregation has caused him to return to the city of his refuge, to where he has fled, and he has dwelt in it until the death of the chief priest who has been anointed with the holy oil.
26 Toe kami hum kami loe abuephaih vangpui tasa bangah tacawt pongah,
And if the manslayer indeed goes out [from] the border of the city of his refuge to where he flees,
27 athii tho lu la kami mah anih to tasa bangah hnuk naah hum nahaeloe, kami hum pongah zaehaih tawn mak ai;
and the redeemer of blood has found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood has slain the manslayer, blood [is] not [reckoned] to him;
28 kami hum kami loe kalen koek qaima dueh ai karoek to abuephaih vangpui thungah om tih; kalen koek qaima duek pacoengah ni a ohhaih ahmuen ah amlaem let thai vop tih.
for he dwells in the city of his refuge until the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest the manslayer turns back to the city of his possession.
29 Hae loe na ohhaih ahmuen kruekah na caa nawktanawk dung khoek to na pazui o han ih lokcaekhaih daan ah om tih.
And these things have been for a statute of judgment to you throughout your generations, in all your dwellings.
30 Kami hum kami loe, kami hum tiah hnukung mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, anih to paduek han oh; toe hnukung maeto khue om nahaeloe anih to paduek han om ai.
Whoever strikes a person, by the mouth of witnesses [one] slays the murderer; and one witness does not testify against a person to cause [him] to die.
31 Duek han kaom kami akranghaih phoisa to talawk hmah; anih loe paduek han roe oh.
And you take no atonement for the life of a murderer who [is] condemned to die, for he is certainly put to death;
32 Kalen koek qaima dueh ai naah, abuephaih vangpui thungah cawn kami mah a ohhaih prae thungah oh thai hanah, paek ih akranghaih phoisa to talawk han om ai.
and you take no atonement for him [who had] to flee to the city of his refuge, to return to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
33 Na ohhaih prae to amhnongsak hmah; athii longhaih mah prae to amhnongsak boeh; athii palong kami maeto ih athii longhaih om ai ah loe, angbawnhaih hoiah prae thungah kalong athii to ciimsak thai mak ai.
And you do not profane the land which you [are] in, for blood profanes the land; as for the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheds it;
34 Kai, Angraeng loe Israel kaminawk salakah ka oh pongah, na oh o haih prae hoi Ka ohhaih prae to amhnong o sak hmah, tiah a naa.
and you do not defile the land in which you are dwelling, in the midst of which I dwell, for I, YHWH, dwell in the midst of the sons of Israel.”
